This song was, once, the Number One song in the country! Let THAT sink in.

I see you starting to smile as it plays! This music is what people need to hear. The new music is toxic, compared to the older music! I’m 48 years old. I stopped listening to new music around 2018. I still look for new songs, but finding a good one is like finding a needle in a haystack! I listen to a wide variety of music, old school country to Metallica! Just wish the music was still like this! We would have less violence out there!

Back when this song came out and was a hit (early 70s), there was an optimism that things and society could really follow the positive path of this song. Now here it is, 2024, and we're still waiting.

Stevens' biggest hit in the U.S. was his gospel-inflected single "Everything Is Beautiful" (1970). It won a Grammy Award, was the theme song for his summer 1970 TV show, a number one hit on both the pop and Adult-Contemporary charts, and marked his first time in the Top 40 on the country charts, peaking at number 39. The single sold over one million copies and was awarded a gold disc.

I remember when this song came out my mom use to get so happy listening to it on the radio as she was cleaning or doing things about the house. She would sing along, and we would dance, and I'd try to sing it with her. Id giggle as she would act silly and tickle me. I miss her so much, but I still get so happy herring this. Love you Mom, Miss you so much. Thanks for sharing. Bless and be well.

Ray was known as a writer of novelty songs, but he was a remarkable musician. Trouble is, he didn't seem to want the world to see it. In this song, we couldn't ignore it.

One of his few, if only, serious hits. It was a good song for children. What sounds pedestrian today, was more needed in previous time periods. Kind of like All In the Family.

A few years ago he re-recorded this. Like a 50th anniversary edition type thing. Talking about various people or groups that try to divide us and how relevant it is today. I loved this song as a kid and even then, as a tot, i felt the weight of the lyrics. And i wanted to be one of the kids singing in the background. Lol

Hey, Angela. When I was a kid growing up, my mother sang this song around the as she did the housework. She had a beautiful singing voice. But being young I was more of a fan of Ray Stevens when he sang songs like GITARZAN, AHAB, THE ARAB, and tge parody of Gladys Knight and the Pips on his song THE MOONLIGHT SPECIAL. Speaking of the great Gladys Knight, she and the Pips have a rare gem in their catalog called DADDY COULD SWEAR, I DECLARE. You will love it. I promise. Keep going and enjoy.

You are correct about him being best known for his humor, but, with all respect, he has done a LOT more serious songs over his 67 year career then you give him credit for... From "Misty" to "Mr Businessman" or "Butterfly Inside a Coupe De Ville" or "May There Always Be a Star Spangled Banner" or "Thank You" or "My Dad" or "Funny Man"... He even did a respectable cover of Roy Orbison's "Crying"... His first professional release, "Silver Bracelet" in 1957 was also a serious song... Or there is also his rendition of "United We Stand" with Mama Cass Elliot, Lulu. and Andy Williams from Ray's TV show in the '70s... And those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head...

Today's world ..most are not beautiful...too much hate.
@Eyes-of-Horus2 ай бұрын
This planet could be a Garden of Eden but greed, hate, fear, jealousy, egocentricism, indolence, possessiveness, demandingness and manipulation of other's for one's own purposes (did I miss anything?) make it unbearable at times. There is only one way to live and it is expressed in most cultures in much the same way: "What you do not want for yourself do not do to another." All else is only discourse.

Heh, I forgot about this song. It carries such a nice sentiment. But it's a shame that five decades later Stevens turned out to be a xenophobe pushing novelty songs filled with anti-immigrant rhetoric diametrically opposite the sentiment expressed in this song.
