React to Chris Cornell with Temple of the Dog's "Say Hello to Heaven". Live at the Moore Theater. Absolutely amazing performance.

Definitely have to react to that performance 😁

the live version is always better with grunge of that time. Hate MTV live people. It was good, but not great like the live stuff.

This was shot after his severe vocal injury in the last half of the Superunknown tour 1994. He was on the mend and had to change his style a bit, and that's why you are hearing rounder notes than the piercing mixed belt he had. The beginning of that tour was unbelievable.

I consider this as prime Chris Cornell but definitely not a "baby" Chris lol.
@jasonlaviolette29642 күн бұрын
Yeah, definitely not baby Chris considering this was Soundgarden ten years and four studio albums in... and post-haircut lol.
@disappearingone112 күн бұрын
@@ZoneXV To me the Badmotorfinger/TOTD era is prime Cornell. Baby CC would be Screaming Life, and Superunknown is the start of late Soundgarden.

It's funny you call this "baby" Chris Cornell when Temple of the Dog's "Hunger Strike" that you reacted to with Chris Cornell was actually from 1991 and this is 1994. This is Chris in his prime from the Superunknown album.
@martinwhite35594 күн бұрын
Chris Cornell is my all-time fav singer. Ronnie James Dio, Sebastian Bach and Axl Rose are close behind. Outshind, Spoonman and Burden in My Hand are my fav Soundgarden songs. Badmotorfinger and Superunknown are both masterpiece album. Both very different sounding. Badmotorfinger is a grunge metal album, while Superunknown is more classic grunge sounding. Chris was actually a great guy. Chris and Chester were extremely close friends. This is such an emotional song now.

There is one singer that I can think of that has a similar vocal quality to Chris' "belty" bits...Richie Kotzen (of the Winery Dogs) lives in that range. Definitely worth giving a listen.

Chris had everything the looks, the height and the hits. The guy got recruited as a drummer then turned into a lead-gutarist/singer, he wrote/composed the majority of his hits by himself even the guitar and drum parts! even somebody that talented and loved could be taken. Nothing protects you from depression you just got to be read for it.

It's cool that this is actually a live version of the song and they used for the music video. I prefer it to the studio recording that's on the album. Chris Cornell's belty scream goes even higher in other songs ;) True story, he broke several mics during the recording of the album with his voice!

Love how they recorded the song live while producing the music video & used that in lieu of the album audio (nothing wrong with the album audio; I just wish more bands would do that) Also: Bill Burr made a really good point when he was talking about Cornell right after he passed (verbatim) - "You could take that voice & put it in any musical era from the 60s up to right now; it would still fit. Just a timeless voice..."

He was gorgeous, inside and out. To the point of being distracting 😂. He was also an amazing and talented simger, songwriter and lyricist. And he could play several instruments. Sure, he had big flaws, he was a very human man. But overall... Such a pity that he left us. If you want to check his earlier stuff, you can see an even younger and fresher Cornell if you check the video for Jesus Christ Pose, or the 90's live performance of Say Hello 2 Heaven, or the 1990 live performance of Slaves and Bulldozers, or the video for Outshined, or the one for Loud Love. All of them are amazing.

Like Chester in the aughts, the 90’s gave us Chris, as one of those that came out of his era with an entirely unique energy and experience. To lose both so close together was heart wrenching. Early favorite Chris tracks include “Hunger Strike” with Eddie V., Blow up the Outside World, and this one. Later on he gifted us “Show Me How to Live” with Audioslave, and “Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart” as a solo. These are a few I find myself revisiting here and there. 🤘🏻🖖🏻
