People have been asking me about the absence of a Q&A section in this video. I'm a horribly organized individual so after pulling an all-nighter making this, I tried to make the Q&A but my voice had died out completely along with a pounding headache. It sucks and I'm not pleased about it myself, but if I didn't have the ability to create a fun Q&A in that moment, I'd rather spare my viewers. That you'd watch to said credits is great though, and hopefully the video engaged you throughout. For next time, there's no concern. The Q&A will be back...

Also, you can update older engines, even if you use the source code. Some of the graphics enhancements you see in Nightfire were actually available in regular Quake 3 mods that only had access to the client and server-side game logic, and not the actual engine code. But if you licensed idtech3, you can just pop into the tr_ code and replace vertex animation with bone-based models, or even include the bullet3 physics library, and use that for changing the baked lighting model to a physics-based lighting model like that one guy did with the Quake 2 path-tracing mod. It's the same engine, but enhanced. I made basic mods for Q3 like ironsights and freeaim (in my channel), but hope to make the engine look way nicer in the future. Q3 engine is way nicer looking than it ever gets credit for, particularly because id's games back in the day were demos for what could be done, so they could be licensed.

Hell yeah, Esthero’s theme for this game was phenomenal. I can’t recommend enough that you check out her first album if you liked it - her first (Breath From Another) is very trip hop-acid jazz like the Nightfire theme. Very lounge-y, and sultry. It’s a fucking album, to cut to the chase. Literally. I also love her second (Wikkid Lil Girls), which sees her depart from the first album’s co-conspirator and explore a lot of different genres. Check out Esthero on Spotify maybe and see what you think!

The thing I enjoyed about this game the most--this was something also present in the third-person follow-up, Everything or Nothing--was that this game rewarded you for tackling obstacles like James Bond would. You can approach certain levels in a variety of ways, but players who were paying attention to their environment and exploited it accordingly were rewarded handsomely with a golden 007 trophy and the iconic Bond theme. It made the player feel triumphant, and encouraged repeated playthroughs of other levels in order to find the "best" way to navigate them. This and EoN are underrated in a fashion. Sure, both games sold well and reviewed well upon release, but they have become forgotten and neglected in time. This is a real bummer, because these games anticipated trends (e.g. cover-based shooting, trophies/achievements, etc.) that would not become the status quo until the following console generation. Add to that their obvious devotion to the source material and high production values, you got a pair of licensed games that are not just good for being licensed games, but are just plain good. They have aged better than they have any right to, and any gamer interested in the historical development of action titles owes it to themselves to give these games another spin.

One of my fav's from the gamecube era. Still have it and me and my friends would play multiplayer a lot. I felt it was a great successor to goldeneye for N64. The fact it wasn't based of a movie made it even better cause you didn't have to try and compare it. So many fun little gadgets, and weapons. When we first found out you could use odd jobs hat in multiplayer, and as many times as you wanted was awesome. Then finding out you could use mini tanks and helicopters was also really fun. There was also the detail of being able to control rockets and getting a front row seat to seeing your enemy blow up was amazing at the time. They took the 007 license and ran with it and we got a great game out of it. The single player did have it's problems like what you mentioned in the video but when I compare it to a lot of FPS games these days it still seems better. The single player had some really fun levels like the business tower either trying to take the stealth route or just going in guns blazing. Later on when 007 from russia with love was teased and they were showing they got Sean Connery to do the voice lines, and all that. Looked like it was gonna be great cause well you know it came after 007 Nightfire so it had to be just as good if not better. I don't remember it so well these days though I still have the same sitting around here somewhere. That's a bit of a shame. There is also Goldeneye rouge agent which I know got a lot of hate but it was fun playing as a different character in that universe and it not following a movie again. It had it's problems but it had some pretty fun guns and gadgets. Then much later down the line they released a "goldeneye" remake with Daniel Craig which I got (cause I was kinda suckered into the hype) and it didn't really do much for me. Was hoping to capture the greatness of the original one for N64. Really sucks you don't see anymore good James Bond games anymore these days. :(

I remember introducing people to this game and then after playing multiplayer for a while I'd pick Oddjob and throw his hat in the air and laugh my ass off when they died and didn't have any idea how. For those who don't know his hat is heatseeking and if someone is in a big open area you're basically garunteed a kill

As a long time fan of James Bond my most favorite thing about this game was the many “bond moments” you can find. It keeps you thinking “what would bond do?” And reward you for thinking in that way and preforming tasks you would expect him to do in the movies, no other game I’ve played has done that. They give you people to shoot and objectives to complete, but they don’t give you these chances to basically role play as bond. As a kid that’s what made me go from liking bond, to wanting to be bond

This game is very special to me. Me and my brother shared a love for this game and James Bond in general. We would always go on multiplayer and do deathmatches together. We loved the story and the overall design of the game down to the dreary presentation of Phoenix Fire. It makes me really really sad to go back and experience these memories alone. Rest in peace to my beloved brother, 1995-2020. Also, thank you to this game for being one of the many ways my memory of him lives on. And all of the lovers of the game for keeping it alive. This was a really great video, made me really emotional.

I seriously loved this game too. I'm actually surprised you didn't mention the pretty awesome beginning song and video. I always loved watching it every time I turned it on. Yeah, I don't know why bots went away in games. It's an easy way to make the game bigger and more action packed and it's a good alternative for people who don't want to play all the online game modes. Wow, I actually grew up playing Nightfire on PC and loved it and the Multiplayer. Had probably a few hundred hours on it. My brother had it on Console and enjoyed it certainly as well but I didn't realize they were so different. We did play Agent Under Fire quite a bit on console, another great one (atleast at the time) And at the end of the video, I got so nostalgic from the music.

Ah yes, Nightfire! While I enjoyed the campaign. It was the multiplayer that I remember it for. The game had some nice noob friendly options without turning into the auto aim fest that was Goldeneye. The explosive set matches were a blast! (pun intended).

I love all the 007 games from the 00's. Agent Under Fire, Nightfire, Everything or Nothing, From Russia With Love. Hell, I even loved Rogue Agent the spinoff game. They are the games that made me fall in love with gaming in the first place. And they are from an era when EA still cared about their properties. I think the reason I fell in love with those games was because it felt like there was always something more to them. Because they were part of a larger universe. They didn't do any single thing very good, but they did a lot of things well. And that can be a really good gateway for a 10 year old.

I remember playing this on my old original Xbox, it was so fun, the levels, characters, and guns were awesome. I used to play the multiplayer with my siblings. And I loved how realistic it was back then. I’ve been wanting to play it but I can’t find my Xbox or disc. So I’m glad people still talk about it and put videos of it on KZbin, it really brings back memories. Thanks brother
@daveface696 жыл бұрын
Regarding the use of engine, because this kind of shit interests me, I checked the making of video you used some footage from (kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHrblI18fpujn5o) and at 00:12 you can see a guy working in a level editor which isn't id Tech 3 - id tech based editors including derivatives like Source and Infitiny Ward's engines only display lighting when compiled, not in editor. So...I messaged one of the artists that worked on the game (Andy Bee, he has an artstation page with some cool shots of the Exchange level), and awesomely, he replied and clarified everything. The FPS sections used an in house engine, not id Tech 3. The driving / sub sections, interestingly, used a completely different game engine and were made by a seperate EA team - most likely the Need for Speed Engine that a later bond game also used. The confusion is most likely because one year earlier, "James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire" DID use id tech 3, but that was a completely different studio, and if you look at any video of the game the lighting / texture quality is markedly different.

Never clicked a video so fast. I never had a PS2 but my uncles did so I got to play some of their games when I went to my grad parents and my E for Everyone parents weren't watching voer me. That's was my introduction to Mortal Kombat, Madden.... and James Bond. They had Nightfire. I used to be too scared to play past the first 2 levels so I just played those on loop for hours, the game introduced me to the James Bond franchise as well as first-person shooters. Nightfire is my favorite 007 game and this video was the purest rush of nostalgia I have ever experienced.
