I was getting extradited from Utah to Los Angeles one fine day, or two. Late 1980's. Being escorted by a couple of very jaded, well-armed, vice cops out of Hollywood. Who were hella hungover from excessive partying the night before we caught our flight. Following a LONG drive the day before with their badges clipped to the front side windows of the rental car they drove 100+ mph thru Utah, everywhere we went. Lots of side trips and adventures along the way... Odd, they are allowed by law/procedure to carry their loaded firearms on the commercial flight.

From the trailer, I thought the angry black lawyer trying to defend a criminal, who pulled a gun on a federal agent and threatened to assault his daughter, by using the race card would be a parody on social justice. Like, "you can't charge my client, he's black, and to do so would be racist". Then I found out she's a meant to be a recurring main character who 100% believes she's doing the right thing and the only one trying to do it. As excited as I was for Justified to get a sequel, I had an inkling they'd mess it up or "modernize" it.

Let's see how they (the writers) are able to resolve her stance w/ that of Raylan's. It's a relevant commentary that pertains to the real world, and it would be on track w/ plenty of Raylan's previous arcs, i.e., how his beliefs and decided actions are at conflict with others' expectations of how he should execute his duties as a marshal.
@cytorakdemon
@cytorakdemon Жыл бұрын
@@randyqquaint8400 I hope so, cus the "we have to vilify the white cop in his own show because 'wah copaganda'" is just so shallow. I get the drama between Raylan and the law in the original show was "Raylan, you can't keep goading criminals into pulling a gun on you show you can justify shooting them." But this is just lame.
@randyqquaint8400
@randyqquaint8400 Жыл бұрын
@@cytorakdemon I certainly get that, but remember that Raylan historically has made himself an easy target and, in some situations, target of investigation (i.e., his fingerprint on the "next one's coming a lot faster" bullet leading to him being murder suspect) due to his personal anger or frustration that caused him to become more hostile and threatening towards his foes. Let's also be honest, we know (and love) that Raylan threatens to put people in the trunk all live long day, but if it were to happen to a black man on an overly hot day, drawing attention towards the race card would indeed be a likely eventuality of his defense.
@randyqquaint8400
@randyqquaint8400 Жыл бұрын

You’re leaving out the tidbit that he threw out the charges several mins later after Raylan’s daughter was laughing at cat videos in his court & Raylan himself made a quip about being surprised that attempts on his life aren’t made more often. Judge was more pissed off at Raylan than moved by a race argument. If Raylan doesn’t be Raylan (which we all love him for being) & his bratty, unruly daughter doesn’t disrupt the proceedings then the black guy gets the book thrown at him

@@bjchit You have been programmed to react that way and revert back to a slavery response. You won't listen to reason. But the carnage of black on black violence, the abandonment of families by black men and the utter lack of focus on getting an education is the real scourge of community failures among certain minorities. But not Asians . Care to guess why?

This is just bad writing. Season 6 of Justified was already an embarrassment ... it appears that the tradition continues.

Awful. The characters shallow, cliche. The judge is a cartoon. Unwatchable. Embarrassing. The exact opposite of the intelligence of the writing on the original series.

Quick question, have you watched any part of the show outside of a few out of context clips?

The og show is my favorite show of all time. This just feels like an extension of the show. If you haven't caught up I recommend it. Watching this scene by itself isn't a good way to judge it.

How ?? The lawer speech is BS and Raylan and the judge knew it. The show clearly showed Tyrone was completely in the wrong. Furthermore, it's shown that the judge is on the take with his black book, no doubt from Sweety. I hate when IPs go woke ( RIP star wars and doctor who) but this isn't the case here. This scene shows racism being used as a weapon against the facts of the case's, but a lawyer who only won because the judge was on the take.

You need to use your brain more. Do you think the series is saying it's a good thing that a dangerous guy who threatened the hero's daughter get off? Because that's the only way you can say this scene is woke. And if you're interpreting the scene that way, again use your brain more. And this scene is based off the book.
