I think what this fanmade PC port/remake did that no other official version of the game did right aside from making the difficulty a bit more balanced was how they handled Mr. Dark. In the original PSX version I will admit they didn't handle him all that well. He just mocks you by holding up a powerup with a rope then you get an endurance challenge where he fires attacks at you with columns of fire. There is no attacking and after outlasting him you get the powerup and he just shapeshifts into the Chimera (It's implied in the PSX version the Chimera is Mr. Dark shapeshifting as shown with the health bar.) but you never really fight his normal form. This version though? Not so much. You don't just fight his shapeshifting form. You fight his regular form right after and he's quite the difficult fight. And when you think you won he has a second form for the final boss. And then to top it all off he has a soul form of sorts at the end of the true boss rush.

You know, it was a time where the company was just starting. So they wasn't really as serious and talented at us today. But this redemption version of the game can be seems as a error cleaner and a rebirth of this game. For mister dark, I'm pretty sure they were out of time or they didn't get enough ideas to make it properly.

This is what Mr.Dark must have been like in Rayman on PS1, an intimidating boss, hard patterns to dodge, learn his techniques since he's a dark wizard, this battle is fucking memorable ❤️

I love the original Rayman 1, but this fanmade reimagined version of Rayman 1 is so much more better then the original one. More bosses and a way better final boss fight with Mr. Dark. Well way better final 3 boss fights with Mr. Dark that is. So glad he was given Justice with this version and gave him 3 whole battles that are all awesome and amazing. On par with Reflux from Rayman 3 with all the powerful phases. Tbh I’ll see Rayman Redemption as the original definitive version of Rayman 1 since it added so much more stuff to the game that should have been in the original.

I know you don't have to break all the electoon cages in redemption (though I wish you did in classic mod and that it would retain more of the original design that was scrapped here) but I really wish the game retained the part where the electoons save you from Mr. Dark after he steals your ability to paunch. There was some catharsis in that moment.

As much as the original is a classic I did always feel like the ending seemed a bit unfinished and the final battle with Mr Dark felt a bit anti-climatic with the great protune storyline not resolved. This fan labour of love completely knocked the ending out of the water! It deserves an official release! The Rayman version of Sonic Mania 😁👏

We need Mr Dark returning in The Rayman Videogame Series he's one of my favorite Rayman Villains. I also would love to see Dark Rayman return too along with Jano and the Zombie Chickens and The Knaarens.

I wished they kept the part where Mr Dark steals Rayman’s Fist and then traps him with fire walls with no way out and then a pair of Electoons rescues Rayman by giving him his Fist back and then a cutscene takes place where Mr. Dark is angry that Rayman got his Fist back and sends his minions to destroy Rayman and Rayman defeats them and then another cutscene takes place where Mr Dark is even more angry and he decides to Fight Rayman himself and then Rayman defeats him and then Rayman gets ready to fight Mr. Dark again in The Final Showdown 👍
