Hi Jim, I have updated twin axiom 9’s via micro SD. I’m running a pair of RV220 transducers also. After completing the update on both units to lighthouse 4 both my units will not recognise or even see my transducers. I plugged in a spare rv100 for trouble shooting purposes which worked. It will not see my RV220’s which worked perfectly on previous software version. Any advice will be much appreciated!! 🙏
@Raymarine2 жыл бұрын
Hi OBM. That is really strange, especially considering it sees the RV100 plugged in for testing purposes. You might try backing up your waypoints, routes, tracks and settings (Home....My Data...Import/Export....Save My Data and Save My Settings) and then after that reset the MFDs (Home...Settings...This Display....Factory Reset.) Sometimes some artifacts or cached data can remain behind after an update and cause oddities like this. Once you reset you can restore your data and setting from the same menu. If that doesn't solve it, please shoot me an email with your contact details. james.mcgowan@raymarine.com

Jim...I have 2 16" Axiom Pro units. I have experienced (with v3.16) and I've heard you say with dual units you may need a micro SD in the slave unit for temporary storage during the unpate. If I upgrade via wifi will I still need a card in the slave unit?
@Raymarine2 жыл бұрын
Your Axiom 16 Pro units have more built-in storage memory than the smaller Axiom 7, 9 and 12 have. Yours should not require a card to be inserted for an update via Wi-Fi. They have enough space to download and process the update.

Hi Jim In the files from the extracted folder there is still one compressed folder should I extract these files too?
@Raymarine Жыл бұрын
Hi Jim. When you download an update from Raymarine, decompress it on your PC or MAC, and then move the contents over to the root directory (top-most level) of your microSD card. Don't put them into any sub-folder or Axiom won't be able to see them and install them. The full download of software includes files for Axiom, plus files for autopilots, radars, sonars, etc. In that giant list of files you might see a few more Zip files. Those can all stay as-is. Just transfer that entire set of files to the card.

Hey Jim love the streams. I have an axiom pro with and RV-100 but struggle to get it to read anything deeper than 50m. Can you advise of the best settings for when I’m offshore to get better soundings. Thank you Sasha I have upgrade to Lighthouse 4
@Raymarine2 жыл бұрын
Hello Sasha. With the RV100 transducer you have 2 downward-looking beams with different depth capabilities and frequency characteristics. The channel called SONAR on the RV100 is the 200 kHz CHIRP channel. That one has the most depth capability, as deep as 900 feet (about 270 meters.) The DownVision channel is more limited. It has much higher resolution, higher frequency, but less range. It is rated only to 600 feet (182 meters.) Your boat speed will have a big impact, as well as the water conditions. If it is rough, the aeration of the water at the surface will reduce its capability. Use the gain feature to increase the sensitivity in small increments. If it gets noisy, use the surface filter to reduce the clutter in the image. If you have not done so, consider activating the 1kW channels in your Axiom Pro by adding another transducer. That sonar in much, much more powerful and capable of imaging deeper, and in more adverse conditions too.

Hi Jim, really like the Raymarine Live youtube videos.. I upgraded my Axiom 7 this year to Lighthouse 4 software. Not sure if that caused my issue, but I had to spend a lot of time getting the autopilot and radar working. Those are set. I am now having issues with wind calibration with the instruments to the masthead. We have an iTC-5 controller and p70 instruments as well I have the written instructions on how to do this but it doesn't seem to change anything. Should I do a factory reset (again) or reload the software? The boat is 2 years old (Jeanneau 389). Chris
@Raymarine2 жыл бұрын
Hello Chris. Reloading the Axiom software probably won't help with the pilot and instrument calibration issues. The calibration settings for your masthead transducer and any other transducers connected are stored in the iTC-5. Since the iTC-5 is a headless device you access its calibration functions through an i70 instrument, or through Axiom. On the i70 you'll go into Menu...Setup...Transducers Setup and then you should have options for Wind, Depth, Speed and Compass and Rudder if you have them connected (most do not...they are connected to the autopilot itself instead.) Through Axiom you can get to iTC-5 connected transducers for calibration from Home...Settings...Network. Touch the iTC-5 on the list of detected devices and select Calibrate from the popup menu. The select Depth, Speed or Wind as needed to calibrate that transducer. We have updated the software in the iTC-5 periodically over its life. The Axiom update typically contains iTC-5 software too and it would offer to update it during the upgrade process if it needed it. Still, it might be worth looking to see if your iTC-5 has older software in it. The latest is version App v1.12 - Bootcode - v1.14. The software level is reported on Axiom's Network devices screen. Home...Settings....This Display...Network. Should yours be old, run the software updater on Axiom while connected to the internet. It should detect that it needs an update and offer it up.

Hello Faisal. You may need to re-select that transducer on the Axiom Pro RVX's sonar channel menu. In the latest 4.4.7 release we changed just a bit how the different sonar sources are identified, and also added the ability to custom tune Airmar CHIRP transducers like your B275 to a specific frequency should you want to do that. To re-assign your B275 go to your Fishfinder app and touch Menu...All Channels. The window that pops up should show a tabbed interface with all of your RealVision 3D channels, and then all of the B275 channels. Choose any of the B275 modes to display it on that page.

Hello Jim, My plus wont find the Lighting 4 upgrade on either WIFI or card, any tips?

Hello Graham. On software downloaded from Raymarine.com and transferred to a card, you do need to unzip the file you downloaded, then move the files onto the root (top most level directory) on the microSD card. If the upgrade files are still compressed, or in a folder, Axiom can't see them. As for a Wi-Fi update, once you are connected to the internet with Axiom it will reach out to our server and download the software directly. The file is about 900MB so you will want to be on a fast, reliable connection so it can complete the download without interruption. Hi Marty. From the homescreen touch the GPS position/Globe on the top left and select Satellites from the menu. This first screen will show you whether or not its internal GPS receiver is even tracking anything. Satellites will appear as circles, squares or diamonds on the plot. Go to the Settings tab. Scroll to the bottom and touch Restart. That will flush the GPS receiver's almanac data and restart it. @Raymarine2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan. I suspect that the Axiom is having trouble communicating with the CP100 due to a network change that implements with Lighthouse 4. Ideally, the CP100 would have updated first, and then Axiom, and they would end up in a state where they could see each other and operate normally. If I had to guess, this got out-of-order somehow and the communication path is not working. Its a round-about solution, but here is how I would tackle it. 1. Downgrade the Axiom back to LightHouse 3.16 and re-establish communications between the CP100 and Axiom. The 3.16 software is available for download here: raymarine.app.box.com/s/rvh9wwha17umjgq4cndwwmbtple4d1h4/folder/152787113742 2. Once they are communicating again, begin a software update on Axiom either via Wi-Fi or from the 4.00.77 card you made previously. When Axiom presents the list of items on your network, only update the CP100. Untick the box next to Axiom so it does not upgrade itself. That should get the CP100 up to the next version. When it completes, it should also still work with Axiom on version 3.16. 3. Once the CP100 is upgraded, start the upgrade process again and proceed to upgrade Axiom back up to version 4.00.77. Hopefully this should get you back up and running. Feel free to send me an email to james.mcgowan@raymarine.com and let me know how you make out, or if you run into problems.

Hello AFern. This is not something we have seen with LightHouse 4. I would power down both your FLIR M232 and Axiom and restart them. It would be best to completely switch off the power so both devices are cold-starting. This will ensure that the M232 connects with Axiom during startup and gets an IP address assigned properly to it. Hi Jim, I'm trying to update the software on my Axiom + 9 and was hoping you could help me. I have attempted to update via both WiFi and the SD card. I have a fairly good wifi signal at the boat and in 3-4 attempts it fails to download about 1/3 of the way through the process. With the SD card, I have twice downloaded the software from your website and both time it searches the SD card for updates and doesn't stop searching. I have left it searching for over an hour without anything happening. Any thoughts as to what I am doing wrong or is it something to do with the units? You help is appreciated, thanks! Norm
@Raymarine7 ай бұрын
Hello Norm. The Wi-Fi update can be troublesome if the signal is weak. The file it is downloading is big, and if it gets interrupted during the download process then it usually fails. On the SD card update, be sure you are unzipping the file you downloaded from Raymarine.com before you put it onto the card. The download is actually a package of updates for Axiom and other devices. We bundle them into a Zip file to make it easier to download. You need to unpack the Zip file on your computer when the download finishes, then move all of the contents over to the SD card. If you pull the Zip file over without unpacking it, Axiom won't see all of the individual update files inside of it.
@normdichiara78367 ай бұрын
Thanks for the quick response, as I mentioned the wifi signal is pretty good at.the boat, oh well! I will try uploading the zip file again and explode it on my computer and then transfer to the SD Card. One more question though. My Sd Card has all of the files on it from previous updates, can I remove them all from the card and will the MFD's still operate normally? In other words can they work without the SD card inserted in the unit? Thanks in advance! Norm
@Raymarine7 ай бұрын
You can remove the update files from the SD cards to recover that storage space, if you wish. The update files on the card are no longer needed once the Axiom finishes updating. You can also remove any update SD cards once the update finishes. The updates are loaded into Axiom's onboard storage as they are installed.

Today (June 1) I tried to install the newer lighthouse 4 and my slave axiom failed to update. The primary mfd updated. Any idea why I got failed message on the 2nd mfd.
@Raymarine2 жыл бұрын
Hi Billy. First, do double-check the software version in the failed unit. Sometimes I have seen it report as failed, when it did actually complete. On that unit go to Home....Settings....and the version is reported there. If it did not complete successfully, try plugging a microSD card of any size into that Axiom that did not take the upgrade, and then run the upgrade process again. A certain minimum amount of onboard storage is required for it to unpack the update files and backup some information. There might not be quite enough space for it to do it. By plugging in a card, Axiom will used empty space on that card for its upgrade tasks, complete the upgrade, and then flush those files away afterwards.

Hi Stan. I am pasting in some of the advice from our email for the benefit of anyone else reading who might have the same issue. > Good for you for testing it in your computer first. The fact that you can see it there and browse the files tells us the card itself is good and readable. If you have not done so lately, definitely also update your Navionics chart while you have it out of the Axiom. This will make sure its up-to-date, and the process of doing this will also validate that all of its required files are present. Go to Navionics.com and click the link to Activate/Update a map card and follow the instructions. > > Back over on Axiom, I'd like to establish if the card reader is working at all, or not. Plug your Navionics card, or any other microSD card in and then go to Axiom's home screen. Touch My Data....Files. Axiom will then show you its different accessible storage locations. The first one will be Internal Storage, and then underneath it will be each of your SD card slots. If there is a card detected in the slot, it will show in white, and when you touch on it you will be able to browse down into any folders or files on the card. If the slot is not working, it will remain grayed out. > > If the card reader is not recognizing when cards are inserted on one or both slots, there could be either a fault in the software that drives the reader, or a physical issue with the reader itself. > > The first course of action would be to try a Factory Reset on the Axiom display and see if it starts working afterwards. This will clear any software/driver fault. The only downside to this is it will wipe out waypoints, routes, tracks, etc. stored in the system. Normally you would be able to back them up before resetting, but that backup is saved through the card reader to a microSD card. To reset the system go to Home...Settings....This Display...and touch Factory Reset at the bottom. You'll need to confirm the action by pressing Yes when prompted. > > Once it reboots, insert your Navionics card and hopefully it will be able to read it. > > If not, there could be a hardware problem with the card reader itself. The most common issue with them is the contacts that connect with the map card getting corroded or dirty from moisture or salt air. Typically this is something we would fix by replacing the card reader. Since you are able to read other cards in Axiom though, I think there might just be something wrong with the files on the card and it can't recognize that it is a valid map card. Doing the Navionics update should correct for any missing files.

Hi Ely. I spoke with our engineer who works inside Boston Whaler to get an answer for your. Your CZone pages should be there, but the might be buried behind the other factory default "Dashboard" pages. The factory configuration from BW turns off some of those other pages, and also creates a seperate instance of the Dashboard app with only the CZone pages programmed to be visible. Here is our suggestion. 1. Create a new instance of the Dashboard app on your home screen. Long-press on any app tile and select Customize, choose a Fullscreen layout and add the Dashboard app to it. We suggest giving this a custom name called Switching. 2. Open this new Switching app you just created. Touch Menu....Settings (3 gears) to see the settings for this instance of the app. It will open to a tab called "Pages" There will be a bunch of pages turned on that all appear before your CZone pages. Engines, Navigation, Rolling Road, Tanks, etc. Touch each one, and select Hide Page to switch them off. Leave just your CZone pages turned on. Close out of the menu when you are done. Now, whenever you select that app you named "Switching" it will open right to your CZone pages.

We ran into two problems when we tried to update our Axiom 9 online. 1. Version shown to upgrade is version 3.11.49. 2. We get a warning that we do not have enough storage space to perform the upgrade. 2 questions - why won’t it show us version 4 online and how do we free up space to do the upgrade?
@Raymarine2 жыл бұрын
Your Axiom has not been updated in quite a while, so the online update service is wanting to do it in 2 parts. It will bring you from your current version to 3.11, and then you'll run it again to get to 4.00.77. This has to do with some network communications protocols that were modified at version 3.11. Before updating beyond that level, Axiom needs to make sure your accessory and peripheral devices are updated accordingly to maintain communication with them. Axiom needs some space to unpack the update files, backup some information, and get everything installed. If there is not enough free space available to do this in its onboard storage memory, it can instead utilize extra space on a MicroSD card. If you plug in either a blank MicroSD, or your mapping card, Axiom will use the surplus space on there to do what it needs to do, and you won't get that message. It is not harmful to your card to let it do that.

@Raymarine2 ай бұрын
All of the chartplotters on the network must be running the same software level to work together. The best course of action would be to update the ones on the older version to the current version, as then they will communicate again and will all benefit from the latest software version, rather than rolling back some of them to the older version. There are a few ways to get there. If you re-launch the Wi-Fi software updater on each display that is behind, it should be able to download the update and update itself. You could also download the update to a microSD card from Raymarine.com, and update through the card reader. You can download the software here: www.raymarine.com/en-us/download/lighthouse-4-update-for-axiom-chartplotters We did just recently post a minor update, 4.7.184, which supersedes all of the software you have now, so doing a full round of updates should bring all 4 of your chartplotters up to that version. Also, sometimes it is helpful to plug a blank microSD card into each of your secondary displays when performing a software update over Wi-Fi. This gives each screen a place to store and unpack the update files before it updates itself. This is mostly needed for original generation Axiom 7, 9 and 12 screens, which have a bit smaller storage memory than later models have.

Those "battery" related values are provided by a NMEA 2000 compatible charging system or battery management system. Hi Jim. I've just done a search for WiFi connecting External Hard Srives, and had a bit of a shock. Here in the UK, today's price for a Western Digital Passport 2tb drive, is 59.99 pounds. the 1tb drive is 47 pounds ish. So for an outstanding storage and backup solution, for Raymarine boat networks, imho, WD could offer outstanding benefits for Raymarine Network systems and products, using their system imaging approach. WiFi connection via Axiom, could deliver everything needed for boat owners, plus a possible extra backup into WD, or other Cloud Services (though tbh, no Publicly accessible Clouds are actually Secure - Sorry to be the bearer of bad ews, but it is what it is, and it's why external physical storage is so vital - but while uncompromised, Cloud can still be handy for a belt and braces approach. Hey Jim how do I get to add my password for my WIFI if my screen is cracked and touch doesn’t work? Thanks Terry
@Raymarine2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear about the damage. Yikes! There are a couple of possible ways you can control your system without the touchscreen, however, none of them are really ideal because for all of them you will need to interact with the screen to some minimal amount to set them up. You could add a RMK-10 (current generation) or RMK-9 (prior generation) keypad to your Axiom network and remote control it that way. The trouble is there is a menu on Axiom you need to access to link the keypad to the display. If you can't touch the screen, you will be out-of-luck here. Similarly, your Axiom has Bluetooth onboard. You can connect a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard to it and make inputs that way. The trouble here again though is you'd need to open the Bluetooth menu on Axiom, and put it in pairing mode. Ultimately, Terry, I think you need to get the touchscreen fixed before you can really do anything else with it.

@@270EMT I can't quote on behalf of the repair center, unfortunately, but if you open a repair ticket with them online they can give you an estimate. Use the link on this page to get a return started, or you can reach out directly to the nearest repair center for more information: www.raymarine.com/service-and-support/warranty-repairs-returns/out-of-warranty-repairs.html

I have lost all my detail on my maps on my Ray axiom. Help please
@MarkKrebs2 жыл бұрын
Hey I did that, and it was just a user error. Depending which charts you bought you might occasionally, I don't know why, switch over to the other charts. For instance I've pulled up the cartography page and discovered lighthouse charts were selected and they were just low resolution, so I merely clicked again on navionics and all the detail is back. I don't know if that's what your experiencing but it does sound similar.
@Raymarine2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing this tip, Mark. This is what I was going to suggest to. Each instance of the chart on Axiom is independent. You can show different types of charts (Navionics, C-MAP, LightHouse, CMOR, etc.) on different windows, depending on what cards you have plugged in. If it looks like the map is missing, its most likely just not selected for that window. Touch Menu....Settings....Cartography and it will list all the maps plugged in currently. Touch to select the one you want to see in that window.

@raymarine, ahh, that's a clarifying bit of the metaphor: each tile references a different chart instance: there is not one chart display context, but many, each potentially different.

I am having a problem with waypoints. I have discussed this with a tier 2 tech but we have not found a solution. I had upgraded to the latest lighthouse version 4.87. 1. When you hide a route, it does not hide the waypoints associated with the route. This leads to confusing mess on the screen and it is potentially dangerous, especially to less skilled navigators. 2. The solution was to hide ALL waypoints then when you show a route the waypoints associated with that route will also show. This was a good workaround except there are many waypoints that we need to see that are unrelated to routes. For example, we have scuba, fishing and hazard waypoints that we need to see. 3. The next idea was to rename the waypoints or add a comment on them so that I could then sort them and add them to a group such as scuba, fishing or hazard. When I tried to sort the waypoints, the sort option is greyed out. 4. I then tried a system reset, a power hard reset, then installed an earlier version of lighthouse 3.16.84. None of those things corrected the problem with sorting. 5. I have 2363 waypoints. Is there a limit to how many waypoints can be sorted? 6. Is there any way to sort/group waypoints outside of lighthouse, then import them as grouped waypoints? I could easily work with my normal pc charting software Rosepoint Coastal Navigation to do that.
@Raymarine Жыл бұрын
For points 1, 2 and 3, consider sorting your "always need to be on" waypoints into groups. In the waypoint manager you can create groups for Scuba, Fishing, Hazards, etc, and then re-assign those waypoints to their respective group categories. You can then show or hide them based on their group assignment. This leaves you able to turn off all of the other route-associated waypoints so they are not visible unless their route is active. You can have up to 10,000 individual waypoints. You can also have up to 200 Group names defined for sorting them. We support the import and export of routes and waypoints using GPX files, which should work with Rosepoint software. You can create a GPX file for export, or import one, through the My Data menu on the Homescreen. Touch Home...My Data....Import Export, and you'll see options to both save your data (to a microSD card) or import data (from a micro SD card.)

Hi Jim. looks like the prices I got for WD external drives were for hard disk drives, despite searching for SSD drives. Apologies. WD do do drives that fit the bill - WD My Passport Wireless Pro, But if Raymarine include a read/write USB 3.xx port, very low cost WD SSD options become available, giving the advantages that come with WD backup software. Of course even iPad has a USB 3.0 to Lightning adapter, and Android phones and Tablets have USB C connections and SSD external drives are available with that, so that does give multiple options as well. All users need then, is backup software integrated into Axiom, with a Menu selection for Destination to back up and restore to and from. WD would imho, still be a good idea to talk to, plus other options then become a ailable as well, such as a Private Cloud Server available on Boat, for storage of music, Films, Equipment Manuals, etc. Sorry for the device mix up Jim, Device costs are higher than anticipated, but still remain very reasonable for what they can offer users. Best Wishes. Bob. 👍🇬🇧🏴🇺🇲

There is a MicroUSB connection on the back of all Axiom units that is labeled as an "Accessory" port. Technically you can plug a MicroUSB host cable to it, and then turn it into a normal USB port. For example, using that it is possible to update software in an Axiom using a USB thumb drive, and to save data to a thumb drive. So, what you are proposing is not too far from possible. Our Axiom XL-series displays actually have that accessory port as well as a full-sized USB-A and USB-B ports. Normally they are used for touchscreen input and output with those systems, but they also can also be used to pass data.

Ray Marine axiom 9 gps antenna
@Raymarine2 жыл бұрын
If you need an external antenna for an Axiom 9 I recommend either the Raystar 150 GPS sensor, or the AR200 Augmented Reality module. Those are both SeaTalk NG devices so will plug into the network backbone along with your Axiom.

PPS. Just spotted a com ent about a difficult to reach sd card slot Jim. If Raymarine dud high speed USB, a multi SD Card read/write Slot device could just be plugged in to an Axiom Network somewhere safe, and have Nav cards available to every MFD ? Such ancillaries are not expensive, and given the size of the Market for them (not just restricted to boaters) can fill a real need. If Raymarine want to discuss Royalty payments for use of copyright, I think they'll find me very reasonable. est Wishes. Bob. 👍🇬🇧🏴🇺🇲

I was on a friends catamaran and he had just replaced everything on his cat with Raymarine. Radar, sonar, autopilot, the whole pile. Well on start up the Axiom notifies the user that WPA is not the most secure connection type and you guess it, WPA is on the Axiom, not WPA2. Ya no shiz, everything is WiFi from the subcomponents back to the Axiom. Well sure as heck, we are coming back through a pass, at night, low visibility, bouy lights not working as per usual. With WPA being easily hacked, the next thing I know the plotter is in Canada dropping points over Ontario. Nice, we had zero situation awareness. It was no joke, why would Raymarine sell something so old as WPA, that’s generation one. Now this old boat owner has to upgrade this out of box purchase, and of course, he has no clue. Great.

Hello Michael. We do take the security on our products very seriously. The only part of the navigation system that can optionally joined to the network using Wi-Fi is a Quantum radar scanner, which can also be setup with a wired connection. All other device connect using wired RayNet Ethernet or wired NMEA 2000. The Wi-Fi can be turned off entirely on Axiom if you want. Go to Home...apps...and touch the Wi-Fi status indicator. There is switch there that will turn off the Wi-Fi radio. You can also prevent Wi-Fi sharing with other devices by going to Home..Settings...This Display....Wi-Fi sharing and turning off the ability for external devices to connect. I would like to learn more about the situation you experienced. Please send me an email to james.mcgowan@raymarine.com.

I have some additional information for you about Axiom's Wi-Fi network security for you and our other viewers. For background, the Wi-Fi system on all Axiom and Axiom 2 products support both Access Point and Client functionality. The Access Point functionality only supports WPA2 security, which is the most secure protocol for Wi-Fi. Any devices connecting to our Axiom or Axiom 2's access point must utilize WPA2 security. The client functionality on Axiom and Axiom 2 will allow you to connect to a WPA2, WPA or open network. If you try to connect your Axiom or Axiom 2 product to one of the less-secure options the Android OS underpinning Axiom will warn you that the connection you are about to make is less secure. It is the user's choice to proceed with that connection, or not. Like with most other internet devices, we do to give users to connect to those less secure types of networks if needed. We do make a point of advising the user of the risk. I believe this is the message you reported seeing in your comment. Even when connected to an insecure 3rd party Wi-Fi network all Axiom and Axiom 2 products run a full firewall so no other device on the network can connect to the Axiom. With regard to the issue you saw with the vessel's position being mis-reported, this sounds more like a GPS reception issue. If the GPS antenna was blocked or obscured it may have resulted in a loss of fix, or a significant drop in the number of satellites being tracked. We'd be happy to help you solve this issue. Sometimes it is necessary to add an external GPS antenna or sensor in a location that has a more clear view of the sky to maintain steady reception. Finally, I will reiterate that the connections between Axiom/Axiom 2 and other components onboard the boat are wired connections utilizing RayNet Ethernet or SeaTalk NG/NMEA 2000 CAN bus. The only wireless peripherals that can connect to Axiom/Axiom 2 are our Quantum radar scanners and the Raymarine mobile app. Those devices can only connect via Axiom's Wi-Fi access point using WPA2 security. If you have any additional questions or concerns please feel free to contact me directly at james.mcgowan@raymarine.com.
