I have a Nordhavn 43 with Furuno TZTouch 2 on the fly and pilot house. My primary goal with a FLIR would be to see things in the water such as fish nets, hi flyers, and containers while running offshore. Should I also get an Axiom? Which features would I not get with the Furuno system? Best, Maldwin

Hello Maldwin. Furuno also has a very robust control interface for FLIR thermal cameras. If you're not ready to give up your TZT2 system yet, it should work quite nicely with the FLIR. If you decide to add an Axiom to your boat, the FLIR can display data from Raymarine's Augmented Reality System in the live video camera feed.

Hi James, does the M300 series have lens protectors that can be changed? If no, how do you recomend the salt spray be cleaned off the lens?

Thanks for watching, Phil. The best way to clean the salt off your M300-series camera is just to flush it with fresh water when you clean the rest of your boat. Don't it it with high-pressure spray, just flow the water across the camera and its lenses to wash the salt away and let it air-dry. You actually can't put anything over the thermal camera lens because it is made of a special material that allows infrared waves to pass through. Were you to put a piece of glass in front of it it would block the IR waves from the outside, and the thermal camera would only see the IR signature of the lens protector itself. Similarly, hand-held thermal camera's can't see through the boat's windshield glass, and can't see through closed windows.

Yeah its a germanium lens....mine is etched also and flir will repair it with a new one for $300 plus....im lookin for one on different sight....but it has to be a flir because of a coating they say..(proprietary info) I found a few chinese suppliers of germanium lenses dirt cheap but without knowing the coating its a tossup....now that the chinese make thermal cameras with there own coatings im goin to go ahead and order one anyway....

Question on the stabilization... On my 364C, is turning the horizontal and vertical stabilization on in the settings turning on the gyro or is that turning on electronic stabilization? When I have both horizontal and vertical stabilization turned on, the camera doesn’t seem to hold its position. If I hit “home” it goes home but starts slowly drifting from the bouncing of the waves.

Hello KMT. Horizontal stabilization is used to hold the heading of the camera as the vessel turns. For example, you might want the FLIR to point at the scene of a man overboard while you are simultaneously maneuvering the vessel to make a recovery. Unless you need that capability, typically horizontal stabilization should be turned off. As an experiment to learn how it works you could turn on horizontal stabilization, point the camera at a buoy, then turn the boat through 360-degrees. The buoy should remain in-view on the monitor the whole time without any need to re-center the camera. Vertical stabilization is used to remove the vertical motion from waves and vessel motion.

The M232 has been tested to work at relative wind speeds up to 100 mph (161 kph).

Hi, How to reset camera with access to admin password?

Hello Jacek. If you have access to the admin password, you can connect to the camera's internal web server using a laptop plugged into the network, or from a tablet or wireless device if there is a wireless access point on that network. There is a reset option in there that will take the camera back to factory defaults. If you send me an email, [e-mail], I can get one of our M300 specialists to connect with you and show you how to do it.
