Hi Ray. What a breathtaking mall. Not to many like this one. It makes one wonder what it was like back in the 80's and what stores were there. Back in the 80's there was a mall that my friends and I used to walk all day on a Saturday and boy do I have such great memories. No longer there and now we have the Brass City Mall and very few stores are left in that one. I know you did a video on that mall and I haven't been in it in over 5 years now. Thank you Ray for sharing

It was amazing in the 80s. It would be hard to write out the details but it had every kind of store - music, toys, electronics, clothes, a beautiful CVS, restaurants. Just everything. So bustling and active and noisy but a happy noise. And the smells of food and candy, the music playing from above. Children laughing, registers dinging. Shuffling and bustling. And the beautiful trees and bushes. It to me felt more magical than Disneyland.

Something really cool about this place is the skylights all over were only added in the 90s. Before then it was all covered. The lattice trusses in front of the skylights are the actual structural beams of the roof that they never removed.

My father owned an ice cream store in that mall from 1972 until 1984. I kind of grew up in that mall. I would love it if someone had some pictures from the 70s from there.

I have been going to this mall since before I was born, in 1981. It is so special. It's sad for me to see it so empty because I have memories of my dad unable to find a parking space because it was so full. It also makes me sad because my mom is dying and I remember when her and me were here all the time. I hope it never leaves.

I worked for EB there as an Assistant Manager around 1999 after I graduated from college. We were located by the Macys (it had a lot of perfume woman in the front) by the Gordon’s jewelrs someone mentioned and a Coffee Beanery.

The burger king is still there. It's in the center of the mall near the fountain. And right next to it used to be a Woolworths.

I used to work at the Concord S&C from 1986-1987, mostly in housewares and china/gifts, but I remember setting up the Christmas shop in 1986. I loved that store - it's cool that Macy's kept the seal out front.

I really enjoy the open glass skylights and exposed metal beams in the design of malls like this. It reminds me of Newport Centre with its similar architectural features.

Used to live right down the road from Concord Mall. Would visit KayBee Toy Store with my kids in the early 90's and later Spencer's Gifts when they got older. At one time we frequented the Burger King before it was boarded up... Talk about your 80's decor, that place looked just like the cover of a Duran Duran album. - Thanks for the walk down memory lane. Sad to see it so empty but happy to see they're at least working to beautifully maintain the space.

I might drive down there from central NJ to see it in person. I love the 90s look. Great to see some creativity, not just more modern cowardice calling itself "minimalism."

Unless you’re a mall enthusiast I’d skip it. This video is very complimentary of a mall that takes about 6 minutes to walk end to end. The best part of that mall is the Sprouts they opened next door.

This mall was once the place to be on a friday night. Before online shopping the concord mall did not have vacant stores. Sadly it has takin a hard hit during covid and lost many name brand stores. It will probably close perminatly during my life, so i appriciate videos like this to take me back to what it once was.

What’s crazy is having nostalgia for a place you’ve never been to before. This mall for instance. I’ve never been there but that 90’s aesthetic of green, brass, clocks, Ivy plants, was everywhere in the 90’s. Thanks for the vid!

Many more stores have closed up shop at Concord Mall since you made this video. If they lose Macy's, I fear the only store that may remain is Boscov's Department Store, which is a real treasure. Thanks for the video.

Live a few miles away just north of the border. Also grew up close to the Coventry mall and there are a lot of similarities between the two. There is a small community that seems to be keeping the mall alive but it's definitely on it's last legs. Sometimes they've missed bills and the power would get shut off in the middle of the week.
@chrissasandlin83448 ай бұрын
Love the openness of that Macy's. Also, the framing framing of the clock and the existing fountain felt like a still from a movie, the one that would be featured in every essay about theme. :)

The now-empty Sears started out in the mid-60’s as a standalone 1-story discount store called Almart (owned by JB Hunter stores). They added half of the present mall length to that it a couple years later, anchored by a large Woolworth. A half dozen years after that, the mall lengthened all the way to where Boscov‘s is now (Pomeroys back then). Across the north parking lot you could shop at Pathmark or catch a movie, the Eric theaters chain. Strawbridge came in the late 80’s?

Quick question about the abandoned outdoor mall in Manasquan. I was just there and all the entry ways were blocked off with big cinder blocks. Did u just park away from the lot and walk on? Or was it not sealed off when u filmed that video?
