I keep having this image of myself as a kid trying to imitate Ken Griffey Jr’s swing and looking so cool doing it. Every swing was an imaginary home run. Now as a 38 year old man, I imitate Julio Rodriguez by swinging at nothing and stumbling eight feet out the other side of the batters box.

My impression is this sort of game has played out many times this year for Seattle: Their starting pitcher dominates while the offense scratches out a minimal lead. the relief comes in and gives up said lead, and then it's 40/60 at best as to whether they manage to win from there.

Once again a Mariners Ace glides into the 7th with a zero. Once again the manager brings in a Mediocre reliever who immediately blows the game. Once again I ask: why not let the hot starter pitch to the 7th, and then take him out ONCE THERE IS A BASE RUNNER. Gilbert didn't look tired in the 6th and I doubt he asked to be removed. This phenomenon seems to be Neverending. I'll take any one of the Mariners hot-but-tired starters over ANY of their relievers.
