Wondering if I should keep in a window or the dark

Hi, I live in Canada (zone 3) too and have had some complete disasters as well as some success when overwintering tender perennials. The content provided here is the best information I have come across since starting this. There are too many content providers that are too "forceful" when overwintering. I have found that they prune off too much of the vital energy the plant needs to survive. At times I believe even repotting is too harsh a treatment. I just move my fuchsias into the garage until the temperature drops to freezing. Then I put them in my basement until April. I keep a pail of water in my garage to water my plants a little. When the water just starts to freeze over then I move them in. I just shake off all the dead leaves before doing so. As we get closer to Summer, a good month before the last frost, we should be waking up our fuchsias. I know they aren't the best to have in the window but it is necessary. It will be just a stick with some desiccated branches. Just prune off the darkest branches and start them up with a drink. Or you can just wait and the plant will show you where to prune. Just cut above where the leaves appear. They require a bit of a head start on the year or else it will not get enough energy to do over the following year.

Can they be stored in the dark. In my garage for instance, or do they still need light?
@GardeningforBeginners4 ай бұрын
Keep an eye on the weather forecast and before the first frost (usually in November) bring tender fuchsias into a frost-free space - a greenhouse, garage, shed or basement is ideal. They don't need light when they're overwintering.

To me it looks like it hurts him to start taking off the flowers. At least that is how I feel.
