Not to be rude, but I do want to correct you on something. Ray tracing is not a post-processing effect, but the processing of an image using a very hardware-intensive light simulation. This shader is an effect that is applied after the image has been rendered, which means that this is screen space global illumination, not ray tracing.

​@@buzai12 LUTs are complicated to set up; to set up one you first use "Display LUT" under LUTTools From there set up any color correction type stuff you want with previous color corrections shaders. Then you need to take a screenshot of the entire screen and use a program like photoshop or gimp to crop out anything but the LUT (down to the pixel; default is 32 pixels tall) This will leave you with your modified LUT image. Name the file exactly whatever you put as the name for the tool to use (default should be lut.png) and put it into your textures folder, from there just use the other tool "Apply LUT" and make sure to disable your color correction shaders and you will have the color correction without the processing power usage. Thats literally just the max settings with a color change... it would look like the same game with contrast and dumb amounts of saturation. The fps loss isn't even worth it, not to mention you can run that game on a low end ryzen apu at this point, it's not impressive in the slightest. Even crisis remastered at lowest settings would look better. Reshade is just the salt and over seasing to add to game, it doesn't really change anything, its mostly placebo, and the effects you "see" are inflated in your mind.

Crysis was already using global illumination, SSAO and HDR. It would'nt improve much. Better to try those effect to very old games like Jedi Outcast, Sonic Adventure and others...

You forgot to check "performance mode" after tweaking all shaders. You can gain FPS by doing that.

I know it's possible to use reshade with PCSX2 but I'm not sure how consistent the depth buffer is from game-to-game. The process of installation is the exact same though, so you're probably better off trying it yourself rather than me regurgitating the same video for a specific game.

What are the benefits of having RTGI + MXAO from Marty McFly and PPFX's SSDO enabled together in ReShade? Are they redundant or allow for enhancements without conflicts?

RTGI and MXAO together would technically be redundant because MXAO does ambient occlusion and RTGI does that & more. From what I'm reading, PPFX SSDO is also a form of ambient occlusion so that would conflict with RTGI as well. I also can't imagine the performance being very good at all with any mixture of those effects. Great question!

@@worm6820 Are you sure this isnt a radius difference in defaults? PPFX SSDO for examples default ambient occlusion looks awful. I only resort to it if MXAO wont work, like in vulkan DOOM 2016. The glow effect is easily the lowest batting average to get looking right, some games it never renders in the appropriate area no matter what you do in the settings, like witcher 3 and unreal 2. The glow just renders mostly around them, or even in their shadows under their feet. Its totally unusable even subtly. I will say, in spyro remake, everything together is awesome. MSAA built in doesnt deal with sprites like predication SMAA does. Never messed with RTGI. I assumed it was redundant. Give me more confirmation since you got yours working. I didnt think I needed to looking at it online, and when I did half heartedly, it wasnt so successful.

I think the tool gets overused in alot of games when people revisit it like too much shading and over saturated colour, but each too their own I guess, with reshade you won't have the same game look the same across machines as compatibility with individual GPUs is a grey area. for example my mate had a 2060 while I still had my 1080, used carbon as its a game we were smashing with the steering wheel at the time, had the exact same version of the tool and all, but some effects worked different between both cards. like I turn on FXAA and I get a smoother image, He does and it just makes the whole scene black. And similar things happening across other settings. the tool is great but yeah, you gotta pay attention too what your doing as you will probably just crash alot haha

There is ray tracing and ray tracing. Here, the effect is limited to the screen space and there is only one light direction wich is not necessarely the same than the one in game. For some old games without dynamic lights, it can be nice but it s very limited.

Great video. I think that Avengers would heavily benefit, as well some of the fighting games. Like Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, MKX, Resident Evil 4 HD, Resident Evil Remake 1 and 2, and would like to see a comparison video to the Devil May Cry 5 PC version with the RTGI against the RTX mode, and the next gen consoles full Ray Tracing gamut. Also, would love to see my favorite PC game of all time Gothic 3 having this implemented in my 8K nvprofiler supersampled output. Any feedback on VR games for it? Any chance you have any of those game that you could show this off in running RTGI?

I'm actually planning another video for when RTGI is out of beta! I have a couple games from that list so I will definitely include what I have. I can imagine this being a little problematic for VR games because with enough effects you're drastically affecting framerate and frametimes. If I had a VR headset I would absolutely try it, but I envision motion sickness if the framerate dipped too low lol. Thank you for the suggestions :)

Higher is better I believe, it means more accurate lighting. Though I like to range between 8 and 12 for performance and quality. Also you'll notice doing this means less Z thickness needed

I don't have the RT pack but I can tell you that reshade works flawlessly with mame.

These plugins "approximate" lighting effects based on screen space depth and color sampling, you cannot correctly light a scene this way. Raytracing is specific to the triangles in the entire scene, not the pixels on screen, which gives an extremely limited approximation of light. If anyone wants to know the technical term for what these plugins are doing, it's called Ray marching, and it's very different. It's not ray tracing.

That sounds sophisticated until you actually see what its doing to geometry per surface. The meaningfully cropped element of would be perfection is the same reason I can run it at all. Its better than HBAO but screenspace to this day is tolerated with said rendering layer. Dont worry, things can make geometry glow too.

Nope! Once you download the RTGI shaders, they're your's so long as you don't share the files with anyone. Though, it's still a work in progress and there are updates sometimes multiple times a month.

@@yourfriendlyneighborhoodsaiyan To enable MSAA, you go to your in game settings and it should be listed as either Anti-Aliasing or MSAA (depends on what game you are playing). To enable RTGI, you need to download ReShade and set it up for your game, and then you get the shader from Patreon. You then put the shader in a folder called “Shaders” in a folder called “reshade-shaders” and then use it to your liking. (Remember, the game has to have a depth buffer for the shader to work, that includes disabling MSAA in your game)

You can! There are plenty of online games that will work, you just need to be wary of ones that use anti-cheat software. Even then you might be okay (battle eye in rainbow six siege works just fine). I take no responsibility if you get banned though, naturally ;)

You can use the framerate counter in RivaTuner Statistics Server (Comes with MSI afterburner), it'll show which API just like in the video. If you don't want to use RTSS, a quick google search will usually help you find the API!

Thanks a lot :) from what I can tell, they use different file structures and its fairly complicated to get sweetfx to work with reshade. If you really want to use a particular preset that uses sweetfx, you're better off using the version of sweetfx that preset prescribes!
