Wanted to mention a couple things before the follow up review: screen brightness tests at 362 nits with spyderX, it just visually appears brighter to my eyes. Temps also had no problem hitting 99c in War zone, but didn't after a restart. May have been a bug, still testing Temps. Thanks for the support everyone!

i already received my 3070 model, and while watching this review, i got confused when he mentioned the screen brightness. almost made me wonder if i got some kind of bad panel, because there is no way this screen hits 400nits, maybe 350nits max. i also went from using an HDR 400 ultrabook to this, so maybe thats why im disappointed with this screen.

Just started testing more games, and wow, this CPU can run hot in modern warfare/warzone! 95-100c when you crank up CPU power selector. I'm just a casual gamer so didn't expect COD to get so hot :) Running on Low CPU power seemed to help keep it lower in the 90s. Hope that helps! -Also thank you all for the overwhelming support!!!

@BioGear

The fans tend to stay off as long as all programs and background apps are off, like epic games and discord. When you stream videos like KZbin and Netflix the fans will kick on but very low idle, keep the computer in balanced mode and you may not even notice most the time. In that $300 upgrade, you get the 165hz QHD screen and 3070. Performance is better i'm sure, but likely not by a ton. I bet the 3060 performs fine. My 3070 unit scored 3k points higher in firestrike than the 3060 Asus G14, but ultimately either will do fine for most games. I think build quality is better on the razer, though. I have a couple of questions. 1. I'm moving to China, what does the voltage say on the power brick? I need to make sure the laptop won't explode if I plug it in to a different voltage. Most laptops now a days can handle the change in voltage, but I just wanna make sure before I spend a lot of money on this. 2. I do a decent amount of 3D modeling and rendering, while I understand rendering on a laptop is gonna take a lot of extra time and power, do you think it's doable? 3. Do you really notice a drop to 16 gbs of ram? My current laptop has 32 gbs of ram and I like to think I notice and enjoy the 32 gbs of ram, but I can't say if that's just because I know I have 32 gbs of ram, or if it really is making a difference in overall performance.
@BioGear
@BioGear 3 жыл бұрын
The brick says input: 100V-240V-3.6A 50/60Hz. Output: 19.5V - 11.8A. Unsure what power outlets output in China. 16Gb ram is sufficient for gaming, but rendering 3D models loves more ram. If I was doing 3d modeling I'd prefer 32gb personally

And without being able to upgrade the ram, I basically am forced to get a new computer in 3-5 years.

Would you recommend this for someone new to gaming laptops. I have a gaming desktop with a i59400f, MSI 1660 super, 32gb ram,. I have been looking at this since it was announced at e3 as was looking at the base model. I also have been looking at the dell XPS 17 with the 3060 also but I'm not sure if that would be better or not. Haven't ever gamed above 60fps ( cause that is what my monitor which is a hp pavilion V1M69AA#ABA max is 60 with a 7ms response time) so anything further would be a huge upgrade for me. Or is there another gaming laptop you would recommend?
@BioGear
@BioGear 3 жыл бұрын
I love my XPS 17, but it’s not the best for gaming. The new blade 14 is an incredible all-rounder and games well. The base model will be fine, a 3060 is a good card, and I hear the 144hz screen is decently bright. I’d recommend that or maybe the zephyrus m16 from Best Buy with the 3060. Changing to anything 144hz and higher will change your entire experience, trust me on that, even if you just upgrade your monitor on the desktop!

Great review. Do you think this would be a good choice as a student/gaming laptop?
@BioGear
@BioGear 3 жыл бұрын
I think it would be an excellent choice for school and games. Battery life is fine, charges with USB-C, gaming performance is up there (though it gets hot and loud) but its like a good ultrabook you can game on if you want.

I've been considering this. I don't _really_ need it for gaming, I have a desktop for that. But I do want something for work and dual-boot Linux into it. Thing is... only 16 gigs of memory.... eeehhhh. I'm kinda ok with that, but what if I need 32 in the future? That's really the only thing preventing me from pulling the trigger on it. I love the all metal chassis. It's why I use a MacBook for work. But my MacBook is just getting too old now. Dells, I've thought about, but they can be just as expensive as the Razer at that point....

Similar mindset, I like premium machines. This one has not disappointed, it ticks a lot of boxes. My XPS 17 is my favorite laptop for web and content consumption (love big screens), but this razer is outstand at doing everything well, even gaming. Its not to be ignored IMO. I just want it to last, so I bought an extended warranty just in case.

I like the Razer 14, but I still wish it was intel based. I prefer intel based over AMD becaucse I'm hackintoshing and right now Hackintoshing on Intel is easier. Why have both a Macbook and a Razer when you can just have 1 to serve both. The Hackintosh on Razer 15 is extremely stable. And the trackpad has nothing to do with Razer, once you install hackintosh you'll see the touchpad is fine and is responsive proving that its software based or OS based not hardware.

This is my first Ryzen computer, cant say I like or dislike it more than intel. I got the Mac when I started learning video editing, I could live without it and just have the razer. Never tried hackintosh. The point of the trackpad notes were the texture of the glass, some are too course, some too slippery. Razers is pretty balanced. I hate crappy trackpads!
