This is like a one off edition and compared to the Razer Book 13 this is Sooo much better. Especially with the black keys versus the white keys on the Book. Great video!

You can get the 3080 TI 16g vram version of this for about a few dollars more. I just bought mine, black edition, for $2100 on Amazon sound thanksgiving.

roughly about a 15-20% difference depending on the game and truthfully even at full blast the fans aren't too bad as far as laptops go

Hi, thank you so much for a review of the Mercury edition. Question: some 2022 laptops are wiring the USB-C to the iGPU while the HDMI to the dGPU, but in your video you mentioned that you were using a C2DP cable…so…are the USB-C (actually I think the latest firmware updated it to USB4) connected to both iGPU and dGPU? If I’m doing Office work, can I limit it to use the 680m iGPU to reduce heat and noise? Thanks in advance!

yes if you are doing office work you can utilize the mux switch to take the dgpu out of the picture! even on the dgpu if you have the power settings to balanced it won't make noise.

I've decided to wait for the 2023 model - I just hope it will have mercury white option, 16:10 and 1080p camera - but how they can get good thermals with 4000's GPU's in a 14" while keeping the price relatively the same 1 thing I can however say is that G14 is not a full metal chasis, and if you want a laptop that will last for +5 years, I think its best to buy fully metal chasis as they won't crack overtime

@@derek400004 battery can be easily replaced, just like in any other laptop. People should care more about the longevity of stuff they CAN'T replace or fix themselves like screen, chassis or CPU, GPU and thermal system. Now that we know the top spec stops at 4070 it should be clear that Razer didn't want Blade 14 to die cause of heat and that would 100% be the case with 4080 or 4090. Chassis is absolute top class - only Legion Slim 7 is remotely close to it in terms of quality. Screen looks perfrctly fine - good brightness and color gamut. People really tend to overreact when it comes to Blades, cause they think a device at such price should have no issues at all, which is straight up wrong and naive. Of course you pay Razer tax, but you also pay for overall package, that including build quality unmatched by any other big brand (except maybe Lenovo with some high-end models). It doesn't mean, though that it's going to work flawlessly all the time.

What about battery life? Razer says it can run up to 11 hours but many reviews I’ve watched say otherwise, but they had the 5900hx configuration. Wondering if this updated version is any better as i need a laptop that i could take to classes with me.

11 hours is absolutely false lol you would get about 8 hours on this. G14 is the best 14in battery beast imo. Averages almost 10 doing similar tasks.

the g14 needs to be on turbo to get its max settings getting the gpu to sit on average about 95C while getting 10-20% less performance than the blade with a lot more fan noise. But the screen on the g14 is so much nicer.

basically if you run it on razer synapse maxed out and balanced on preset settings in COD then you are looking at 100-120 on warzone and more on multiplayer depending on the map at 1440p

If I were to guess I would say an announcement in july and release end of year. But considering the prices of the 16/18 I imagine the new blade 14 with a 4080/4090 will be 4k and above. But I suspect it will have a 16:10 mini led display

I just got my Asus Rog Zephyrus G14 (2022) with the 6700S GPU, love it, wish it was more powerful but for the price of $1099 at Best Buy i cant complain lol, that Razer does look sick though

yes that laptop is a certified beast and while the razer's build quality is amazing it is not worth more than double that price especially with the screen being 16:9

@@jean-pierrefata9437 cheaper now for less than $1000 in best buy because 2023 version was just released. But 2022 version is an AMD-Radeon laptop, check the compatibility/optimization with your software before purchasing it.

Definitely doesn't get you 10 on average but you'll get around 8 or more if you tinker with a few settings

It's been a hard pill to swallow but I'm looking to switch from MacBook M1 to a gaming laptop that has a 'MacBook aesthetic', with emphasis on the design, thinness, professionalism, and the materials used. Believe it or not, it's so hard to find that unless I'm just not looking correctly. This is one of the few gaming laptops that actually checks most of my boxes! If you have any other suggestions, please let me know! It's a shame that the screen has that giant black bar chin at the bottom and isn't OLED (that would've really sold me on it immediately), but I guess I could look past it since connect my MacBook to a 4k monitor anyway. Im not entirely sure about graphics cards and their meaning (or performance) cuz we dont have those on Apple Silicon M-chips (just separate GPU cores and interchangeable RAM with VRAM), but I presume the 3070Ti is a good start in my journey. I dont game heavily, but I need a good card for when I do cuz I like to play with high/ultra graphics for Resident Evil, Sims 3, Cities Skylines, etc. This review was good! I would heavily suggest leaning toward a newer model of g14. They're not the same build quality as a MacBook but are imo beautiful and best pricer per performance you can get with a 16:10 screen. Problem with metal premium chassis in gaming laptops is that they conduct heat. Your GPU gets over 100W of juice into it and that thing heats up quick. So my recommendation for a nice looking laptop that has great performance in a 14in is g14 and either an M16 or Lenovo legion for the 16in.

Yes it can display as much as your screen is capable. If it can hit those frames in games depends on the game you're playing

That's kind of an apples to oranges comparison. This thing is a small compact 14 inch where as the M16 is a noticably bigger 16in. I think you'd be happy with either in regard to noise levels

@@StevenMakesVids sorry I was mainly referring to the blade 16. Figured the smaller blade would give me an idea of how loud the blade 16 would fair. The blade,M16 and legion all seem like good buys for my use-case. This will be my only gaming laptop so 16-17 inch screen size all the way.

I've got 2 questions : 1/ I have heard some "rumors" that when connecting the laptop to an external monitor (using HDMI), it always uses the dedicated RTX 3070 Ti. If you want to use the iGPU (AMD) only (to avoid the RTX fan noise + input power), then you will need to connect the laptop to the external monitor using the USB-C (like Display Port). Is that right? Using HDMI means using just the RTX 3070 Ti? And what about the USB-C? Does it connect both GPUs or just the iGPU (AMD)? And my second question : 2/ if you are using USB-C to connect the external monitor, in case the monitor has got its own speakers, will the laptop switch to the monitor speakers (the same way it does when connected via HDMI)? 1- yes HDMI connects directly to gpu. Fany noise isn't a problem unless you're pushing the gpu. usbc is igpu or dgpu depending on if you are using the MUX switch or not. 2- depends on your monitor and how you connect it. If you connect a usbc to display port cable the display port on your monitor may not support audio out. If you use hdmi then it probably will etc.

G14 gets louder and hotter by cpu and GPU temps but is cooler to the touch due to the magnesium alloy chassis. I also prefer the g14 keyboard personally for typing and gaming

The only way it's worth that amount of money is if you just really want the razer build. 2022 g14s have very similar performance for 1k flat. Just don't have that same build quality

I really liked the Mercury version where the keyboard was also silver/white. Not liking the black keys. Looks too much like they're copying the Macbooks and I know after a month they'd start to shimmer with grease.

@@1d1realvstheworld1 it would but I'd imagine that you wouldn't get full performance from the GPU. Docks have limited bandwidth per each port. This means the output to your monitor will essentially be bottlenecked.

13:47 this part didn’t age well. RIP, not only did Razer not put a 4090 nor a 4080 in their Blade 14, they also didn’t reduce the chin size even with 16:10. Instead they put a 4070 at a 140W which is more expensive than a 4080 G14 which performs about 20-30% better, while being cheaper. Keep in mind a 4070 at 140W performs identically to a 4070 at 100W…. Razer messed up big time
