Razer Blade 14 RTX 3060 Unboxing and Initial Impressions!

Just finished transferring all the files and installing all the apps on the Razer 14 + RTX3070. This thing is amazing. 77 fps in 4K with all effects sent to max on World of Warships. With Max battery setting it ran unplugged overnight playing KZbin videos. In the morning, after 8 hrs, there's 17 % battery life left. The AMD CPU will throttle down to 1.09GHz and are very efficient in power gating. They will sustain between 3.9~4.3 GHz with 8 threads active. -- One interesting thing about the Razer 14 is that the fans suck from both the bottom of the laptop and through the keyboard. This keeps the keys cool to the touch even when it is being run at full song and the chassis gets pretty warm. -- The one annoying thing is that it DOES NOT have an ambient light sensor or auto screen brightness. Combined with the fact that the minimum brightness is not very dim I can see that being a problem if you are on a plane, they had dimmed the lights and all the guys around you are sleeping. -- Moving files is such an annoyance I am glad I swap out the 1TB Samsung 981a SSD before I did all that. I plunked a 4TB Corsair MP400 in there so I don't have to do it ever again.

Stupid question: when you replacement the ssd, do you need to install Windows and all the drivers, bios from usb? Or those just appear automatically when you have new ssd in?

@@d_m1nhh You have to first create a bootable Windows 10 USB installer. Than swap the M.2 SSD. Then plug in the Windows 10 USB and turn on the laptop, from there you boot into the USB and format the new m.2 ssd and install Windows 10 on it.

@@d_m1nhh Neither... I cloned the Razer 1TB SSD (Samsung 981a) onto the 4TB M400 then expanded the partition. I bought an NVMe M.2 2280 -> USB enclosure because I intend to use the Razer SSD as an external drive anyway. -- You could have reinstalled windows from a recovery USB, then downloaded and reinstall the Razer Synapse, AMD drivers, nvidia drivers, etc. That has the benefit of getting rid of some of the bloatware like Groove, Office 365 trial, xBox shit, etc.

Guys, I was WRONG on the battery life. It is realistically only about 3 hours in the most battery saving settings. When I left the thing running, I allowed the system to hibernate on 20% battery which is why when it woke up it had 17% left. Realistically the 62 wH battery lasts about 3 hours drawing about 20 watts on the lowest settings between the CPU, GPU, SSD, fans, screen on min brightness, key illumination at 10%, etc. Not bad really for a laptop 35W rated CPU and 100W GPU; but not miraculous.

The lack of upgradable ram is the _only_ thing holding me back from getting this laptop. I need 32 gigs. Which probably means waiting for the new 15 inch laptop, or looking at other manufacturers that have a similar build quality ( I don't want another Mac... )

Do you think 16GB of RAM will be a limitation down the line, especially if I'm using the Blade 14 for video editing? Looking to go for the 3070 variant for all the reasons the Blade 14 is awesome for. But with no expandable memory, it's a huge let down. 16GB now on my old laptop is such a limitation now so I'm curious. Let me know!

It's been in my experience that laptops do not ship with the ram maxed out. I bought my HP pavilion 15 with 8gb of ram.but was able to upgrade to 16gb of ram.

Edit: can you please do some gaming tests? I don't know anyone else who has the 3060 model or is getting the 3060 model. I want to know if the upgrade to the 3070 is worth it or if this 3060 will be fine :P getting excited to see what it's like :D legit gunna be selling a sff pc for this if performance is good. Would love to know as well how the 3060 model performs. Have an SFF PC myself, very good one at that, but now I require the convenience of a laptop as I frequently get away from my hometown and I need my PC with me. Lugging around my whole setup would be extremely cumbersome, even for a small form factor build. That’s where a laptop comes in. You just can’t beat the portability factor. Almost everything is good about this Razer Blade 14. Would also love to know if FreeSync works on the native screen with the dedicated graphics. Heard someone couldn’t get it to work.

Two issues I see without ever using or touching. 1. The battery brick is heavy and intrusive to carry around. 2. You supposedly can only upgrade the NVME to 2TB as you can only run single sided ram.

Eagerly waiting for G14 vs Razer 14 comparison. I received my 3070 version yesterday. The performance is good, but for sure there is throttling at higher temps. the processor is at 45 tdp and graphics goes to max of 6000Mhz, with is less than something like Legion 5 with 3070, which runs at 7000MHz. Overall it is well built but heat is real while playing games. 3080 feels like an overkill for this form factor.

Its a thinner, sleeker and more professional (with a top skin) than the G14, It's a 14" laptop.....the G14 only has one upgradable ram slot....it messes up the dual channel capability with certain configurations......It also has a bigger more powerful 100W 3060, 3070 and 3080.......Compared to the 60-75W 3060 that the G14 offers...But yes, I believe they will offer 32GB soldered soon. That would be perfect.

Also keep in mind the RB14/3060 is $1800 and the Asus G14/3060 is $1500. RB14/3070 is $2200 RB14/3080 is $2800 All with 16GB RAM, not upgradable. In my opinion, the lack 32GB RAM options tells me the Blade 14 is focused on gaming first with content creation as a bonus afterthought, not that you can't do a lot of creating with 16GB. There are some games that plow through RAM though. FS2020 will suck down 25GB RAM easy is you have enough.
