I would choose the Asus G14. It maybe less of a performer in comparison to the Blade 14 but little things such as (1) automatic switching from 120Hz to 60Hz when on battery power, (2) the ability to clock higher with the CPU when on battery power, (3) a slightly larger battery and 2 hours longer run time (4) better audio from speakers and onboard DAC, (5) the power button being separate from the keyboard (6) it cost far less money (7) the RAM can be upgraded even if it is just one stick and (8) much cooler chassis while under stress makes the Asus more appealing to me. That's my take Jarrod.

@@PaulByron4d I think you have it the other way around, the exceptions tend to be the loud guys complaining and writing essays on Reddit, and guys like me who have time to reply to a comment here and there are the norm. There’s a whole Reddit dedicated to ballooning batteries in MSI, Dell XPS, Apple MacBook laptops and more at r/spicypillows, so it’s not an entirely uncommon issue. I read the Reddit reviews before buying my Blade, and guessed correctly that most of the people complaining on the internet got lemons, just as much as they would with a defective XPS or a MacBook.

@@anarki_in5680 Yep, there are issues with cheap Li-on batteries in other brands, some Dell models are known for it, but that doesn't detract from the issue Razer has, which is a specific one due to the manufacturer of the batteries they use. The odd thing is that the rest of the build quality on their laptops is fantastic but they cheaped out on the batteries and so many die within 2 years. Most of the other batteries on that reddit come from devices that are pretty old but if you go back through them the predominant ones under 3 years old are Razer and Dell with a smattering of Microsoft Surface devices.

@@SupremeGG_ I chose the 3070 mainly because, due to the size and thermals, the 3080 wouldn't give enough of a performance boost to justify the cost. Outside of t he 3070 vs 3080 GPUs, both laptops are identical.

Kinda redundant, but I actually sold my Flow 13 for a Blade 14 (which I'll be returning for the new one, great timing there lol). Jarrod's on point about Asus having the better keyboards, but it's not something noticeable after a bit of acclimating. The big issues for me were the poor response time and ghosting due to the VA panel in the X13, the lack of updated IO like HDMI 2.0b and USB 3.0 on the XG mobile instead of 3.2 gen 2, as well as how much of a hassle the XG mobile was to use in practice to get full performance. There's also no getting around the fact that the Flow line is expensive as hell, and the performance in my testing with the 3050 model and the XG mobile is comparable to the Blade 14's 2070 config. The Blade 14 hits that nice sweet spot in terms of portability, and the official GaN charger has made it a dream for school while leaving the dedicated brick at home. So yeah, I def recommend the Blade 14 over the X13. Now how much of this will stay relevant now that both the G14 and Blade 14 are getting major updates (especially in the case of the G14) and the Flow Z13 is a thing remains to be seen. I'd still say go for one of the new 14's if you want a nice balance of power and portability compared to a 15 inch, I really don't like using the XG mobile in practice, and the saved money is a godsend, especially for how much I'm sure the Z13 will end up costing.

Yeah, the Blade's battery and battery life is pretty disappointing. It would be interesting to see them in the same specs. 2 hour difference is no joke. Also the linux infinite boot is a definite no-go. It means something is going on in the core firmware that's proprietary.

Yeah, despite similar specs, the G14 and Blade are in different product tiers. The G14 is the better value (by a long shot imo) while the Blade 14 is the better performer. One fairly important point I haven't seen touched on is how the higher-powered Blade 14 with slower fans is affected by throttling. Might be that after an hour of gaming, the Blade's performance edge is dulled. I've got an original G14 and will likely upgrade next year. 14" is optimal for me and it'll be a tough choice. I'll be leaning on Jarrod for help for sure. Curious to see if anyone else enters the 14" market in 2022.

G14 is what I have currently. I returned a Lenovo Legion 7 Slim. I wanted something that was more portable and had decent battery life when not gaming. No to mention while the 7 Slim was nice it had some downsides when compared to the G14.

For me the absence of a webcam is a dealbreaker for the G14. It’s 2021, whether at work or school most of us spend half the day on video calls. You shouldn’t need to carry around an external webcam when even $300 Chromebooks have an integrated webcam. This is just lazy, bad engineering and consumer unfriendly from Asus.

I love the review, at the end when you said you wouldn’t recommend a 1080 P for either screen because of the response time. Some reviews I’ve seen (G14)involving the 1080p it had a faster respond time then 2020 but didn’t give exact resins time. Did you actually find out the actual response time for the 1080p G14?

G14 is better in battery, unplugged performance, keyboard, speakers, and price. Blade 14 is better in performance, screen, touchpad, storage speed, and build quality. However Razer has major problems with support and longevity of hardware. These laptops are very close in competition.

Scar 15, 17, Legion 7 AMD, and 2021 Zephyrus S17 have pretty good thermals too. Says a lot for S17 because it is using Intel Tiger Lake-H while keeping temperatures in the low 80s.

I just ordered the new 3050ti flow x13 online and i believe it is still 35w , just like the 1650. The reason for this is because the laptop is powered by Usb-C adaptor instead of full dc-in power brick.

My answer to the head to head in this video is that Asus wins. Sure, the Razer is slightly smaller and lighter and faster, but you're forever stuck with 16GB RAM and worse battery life, and you're paying a premium for it. I bought a 2021 G14 as soon as it was available thinking it would be the perfect laptop, and honestly I ended up selling it and getting the 2021 G15 instead as a desktop replacement. The slightly reduced size and weight over the 15" wasn't worth the performance tradeoff and smaller screen and only one NVME slot. However, I also tried out the Asus ROG Flow X13 with the 3050ti and I think I've found my new favorite laptop. The Flow X13 is small and light enough to complement the 15" gaming laptops as a second machine, and has insane performance for its size to boot (sufficient to be a DR in a pinch), and the Best Buy config with the 3050ti is a great price compared to the . The 3050ti can still manage at least 30fps with high settings in modern AAA games, which is crazy for an ultraportable laptop yet still gives the 15" laptops their niche as a desktop replacement.

Actually, the $1799 Razer Blade only has a 1080p screen. If you want higher resolution then you need a 3070 or 3080 which is a lot more money.

@@SolarErazer you can easily fix that by going to the armoury crate software and manually set the cpu tdp to 40w or 35w depending on your needs bcuz the g14 seems to give 50+ watts to the cpu even though it's a hs processor, you should watch gizmosliptech's review on the g14, it goes in depth on the thermals and how you can reduce them without losing much performance

I can only speak on the G14 because I have one, but for what it's worth: Keyboard: It feels nice to type on and has a definitive sound to when you hit a key. Each press feels pronounced. TouchPad: it's accurate and also very clicky in a good way. You'll know you clicked on something for sure. Battery life: With the lower wattage you're going to be able to do schoolwork on the go much longer if you have no access to an outlet. With the right settings you can push this laptop to 11hrs on battery! Beyond that, I would consider the Razer Blade 14 for school because of its keyboard design, and the additional integrated Webcam.

Metabox or Aftershock for better value in Australia, otherwise Lenovo often run decent sales. If you're looking for specific models/brands, I'd recommend just googling it and seeing where you can find it cheapest. You could try places like PC Casegear, Mwave, Centrecom etc.

Be careful with the battery and razer support razer batteries are known to go bad within a year and razer support sucks, don’t get it from razer, use Amazon or best buy
