I replaced my '21 Zephyrus G15 (5900/3070) with a Legion 7i (i9-12900/3080ti) a couple of months ago and haven't looked back. I use it for gaming, data engineering work, music production, and other kinds of productivity and it's just a beast. I think the fact that it can blend in as a "business laptop" is one of its best features. That being said, the battery life is atrocious compared to my old Zephyrus, like not even close. It's laughable that you can watch the percentage go down even after tweaking settings and undervolting. I rarely use my laptop plugged in, so it's not a big deal for me, but that was the big surprise in ownership.

I had many of the 17" gaming notebooks you have reviewed also in my hands. Originally I was impressed by the RB17 with QHD and RTX 3080 Ti. But unfortunately there is huge overshoot when G-Sync is enabled and the CPU performance is too poor for some CPU and GPU demanding games. I went now with the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 SE, QHD, i9 12950HX and RTX 3080 Ti. This thing can cool 240W in total which is just amazing. Even the whole top chassis is completly cool to the touch. under full load. For me the best Gaming Notebook 2022. If you have the chance to review it, please do so! You will be suprised how good this thing is :)

I had bought the ASUS ROG STRIX SCAR 15 back in the month of May and I had multiple problems with it: I was getting screen flickering consistently when playing games, browsing the internet and even when idle on the home screen. The wifi card disconnected itself to where I needed a wired connection to get internet access and then inexplicably fixed itself a week later. The laptop itself was relatively cool but the battery charger would overheat after 45 minutes of playing Civilization 6, which is far from being a demanding game. That last problem was the final straw for me, I don't mess around with poor thermals. I called ASUS who told me it was NewEgg's warranty that I needed to contact since I ordered it from NewEgg. When I called NewEgg they told me it was ASUS' responsibility to fix it since they bought direct from ASUS and that I should tell them I have the paperwork proving it. ASUS listened to me, checked the paperwork and then just flat out refused to work on it since it was past their "grace period" from initial purchase. ASUS customer support is the worst and you can quote me on that. But my saving grace is that all these problems happened in the first 3 weeks of my order so I just returned it back to NewEgg and bought something that isn't ASUS affiliated because ASUS is a garbage company in my eyes. So I wound up replacing my defective/useless garbage ASUS laptop with a REAL laptop: Lenovo Legion 7. I have had it since June (about 5 months) and it handles everything I run on it perfectly. There's nothing to complain about or even nitpick, it's well made. And I called Lenovo just to check if their warranty service was responsive and they're great. Highly recommend anybody over ASUS for a gaming laptop but Lenovo in particular is a great company to buy from.

@@SeemsLogical I can attest to asus customer service being ass, they lost my asus zephyrus with the 1080 max q for three weeks when I sent it in to be fixed for a backlight failure on the device. They were kinda just like oops, whatever. I never have touched that brand of laptop again lol.

For most buyers the Lenovo Legion lineup is going to beat out the Razerblade lineup. Performance, price, visuals, port selection, warranty... Lenovo Legion outperforms the Razerblade in nearly every category that matters. The only 2 categories the Razerblade wins out is audio and external chassis quality (as you pointed out in the video). The Lenovo Legion is the smarter purchase for both affordability and performance. The only demographic who I would recommend the Razerblade to are Apple MacBook users. The Razerblade is the only laptop with comparable build quality. Most other gaming laptops have a hard plastic chassis and will feel cheap compared to the MacBooks they are used to, so for them I think they will enjoy Razerblade laptops over anything else.

I never buy Razer Blades when they first come out, if you wait until the new models come out the old ones are usually at a steep discount. I just bought the Blade 17 for $1999 with the same specs as your which is a steal at that price. This is my second Blade and the longevity on their devices is amazing assuming you're willing to replace the battery in 2 years.

I think if the laptop will predominantly be plugged in while gaming the legion is hands down the better machine. If you plan on using this thing as laptop and moving around or throwing it in the bag or laying in bed I think the razor since it's a smaller profile would be a more comfy device. Your thoughts?
@consumertechwarehouse
@consumertechwarehouse 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the legion is meant to be more on a desk or stationary. But it’s not as bad as you think. And the lighter weight and overall slightly form factor (16 inches vs 17) makes it pretty manageable. But I agree. The ergonomics of the razer makes it a better on the go laptop. Kind of wish I mentioned that in the video now.
@consumertechwarehouse
@consumertechwarehouse 2 жыл бұрын
Just the ergonomics and the slimmer nature of it makes it easier to pick up and slide in a bag (same size on a desk because of thicker rubber feet on the rb). Also the power brick is significantly smaller. When I had both I used them both in bed on my lap and found the blade to be more comfortable for typing and using. But they’re both fine though.

@consumertechwarehouse 2 жыл бұрын
Glad you asked. That’s something I filmed and everything but cut out because of the length of the video. The drivers on both machines are mature now. Didn’t notice anything weird. The Lenovo and razer rarely have bios and driver updates, things just seem more stable. It’s a very different approach to Dell and Asus where they are constantly updating things and sometimes breaking things. Overall the software experience is better on the legion. Vantage is just easier to use vs. synapse. But for keyboard customization and lighting, synapse is still the best.

I love both the raider and the scar and I reviewed them earlier this year. But now, I feel it the screens aren’t bright enough. the scar and ge66 and 76 panels barely hit 300 nits. And surprisingly 340 nits vs 300 is very noticeable. I think next year, I’m going to start dinging premium gaming laptops with sim screens. It’s more than just outdoor visibility. Amazing comparison video. I liked the angles you filmed with in this video. You can see the area that annoys me on the Razer Blade 17. When you compare the Blade 17 to the Legion or even the 15 inch version of the Razer, you can see how far they pushed out the LCD display. I am still waiting on Razer to get rid of the display hinge vent exhaust for their 17 inch laptop. You can stick your finger through the display hinge vent of the Blade 17 and this along with the non uniform speaker holes make an otherwise premium laptop look really cheap at first glance. On the Blade 15 the display hinge vent is really tight and narrow and the speaker holes cover the whole metal speaker section of the chassis so they actually look more premium than the $4000 Blade 17 laptop.

Suggestion. Some graphs are quite misleading visually as the scale is such the performance deltas look very high. Suggest to look at that for future videos. For example horizon zero dawn with dlss off where the scale makes the difference look massive but they are within 1-2 fps of each other - basically equivalent and within margin of error.

Razor has always been a ripoff since we entered the 3000 series GPUs. So I guess we're going all the way back to 10th Gen in terms of Intel processors. Funny. I had the rb17, legion 7, and ge67 hx for the last few weeks. The legion is the one I’m keeping for sure. The rb had the best build quality for sure and the 17 inch qhd panel was really nice for the size. Unfortunately razer doesn’t let you run the cpu above 45w and the chassis can easily handle more. Ge67hx was the fastest of the bunch and the oled was amazing. Everything else was mediocre for the price. Cheap build quality, bad speakers, plastic trackpad. Not impressive for a $2500 laptop. Legion 7 has all the speed of the ge67hx and can be tuned with throttle stop or xtu. The build quality is pretty top notch I’d say it’s about a 9/10, if the razer is considered a 10/10.
