Razer's Blade Stealth took the PC world by storm in early 2016, but it wasn't enough to get me excited. That all changes with the new 2017 edition and today I'll tell you what's great, and where it still falters. See at Razer Store: thrifter.com/swQt

I'm in love with this one since i saw it last year. Although i game a lot in my desktop, i don't usually play games on the go so i'm fine with it not having a dedicated gpu. I'd download only the indies and light games from my Steam library and play the heavy ones at home. Other than that, it's just perfect...

How well would this set up handle serious music production and video editing?

It's kinda sad, but Razer only just released this and Intel turns around and punts out a quad core U-series kaby lake refresh. This laptop would have *really* have benefited from that with the Razer Core and gaming.

aidanjt It’s kind of Razers fault, even if Intel didn’t tell them, it was leaked over a year ago (August 2016), so many of us knew about it already.

I agree, there's no way Razer wasn't aware of KLR incoming.

There's no ETA on when those chips will be available nor how much better performance will necessarily be. Lots of questions around those chips. But sure, the next big thing is always right around the corner. Razer is very good at updating its laptops with newer processors, which is good for those who want it, bad for those who just bought one. Tech ain't cheap or easy.
@applebits7637
@applebits7637 7 жыл бұрын
Windows Central Yeah there is, there are suitable chips that are already released and the rest will be here next month. Performance increase will be 30-40%. But we’ll have to wait for 3rd party testing to see the real difference. But it will be impressive, a core bump with Intel is worth the wait.

Kyle Payne Sometimes it depends what program you use to do video editing. This laptop won't fully support high intensive tasks due to limitations unless you use a Razer Core + your perferred graphics card. If you have enough to get the regular Razer Blade, don't risk getting the Stealth.

Hopefully they do that. With new Surface 'Power' Dock where you can install graphics card into it, all using Thunderbolt 3 Type-C. Not just Surface Book 2, but hopefully all future Surface devices like Pros and Laptop, maybe even Studio.

That "core" is ridiculously expensive. Combine it with this GPU and this laptop and you've already pushed about $2k, in which case you're better off investing that money in something like the Alienware 13.
@WindowsCentral
@WindowsCentral 7 жыл бұрын
Alienware 13 weighs 4.5 lbs and is no longer an Ultrabook nor something you would want to bring into an office defeating the purpose. No arguing that Core + GPU is expensive. That doesn't make it bad, just something not for everyone, just like the Alienware 13. The problem with PC users is they often reduce everything to specs + price as if that is all that makes a device. That's not always the best metric that everyone is looking for, if it were, we'd all be carrying 4.5lbs gaming laptops in 2017.

I have not owned it but I will soon and I think that the surface is overpriced in comparison to this. this has a ton of features which satisfies me but its your opinion ofc. I've been a big fan of razer so imo I would get the stealth
@kruceo
@kruceo 7 жыл бұрын
I owned a Razerblade Stealth (the first one) and it was plagued with QC issues. If you get one that happens to not have any issues out of the box then it's pretty solid and the thunderbolt 3 port means it can be charged (slowly) with a portable power bank if turned off. The Core is nice if you want mobility and power when you get home assuming your "power" requirements use GPU and not CPU. Net result - compared to the Surface you trade quality control and customer service for usbC and RGB keyboard. Personally, I would recommend the surface if you don't need the external GPU in the future. Customer service is hugely important to me though since issues are almost guaranteed to happen over the life of the device (unless you are super lucky)

GBCAwesome Razer usually doesn’t take that long to update after a refresh, it could be by the end of 2017 as the suitable processor models are already available.

>"Wait for 2018! (8th generation mobile processors) We don't know much about those CPUs yet, but really, at best they are 7.5 gen from Intel. Regardless, the waiting game "just wait until NEXT year!" will always be the case in technology ;)
@applebits7637
@applebits7637 7 жыл бұрын
Windows Central I disagree. For starters, we’ve known they’ve existed since August 2016. Maybe I would agree with you then or even a few weeks ago, but we’ve had the announcement now. This is different and you know it, it is not the same ‘wait until next year’ that people are brushing it off as. Thats been the case with the Blade Stealth in the past and many notebooks due to Intels updates. But this year is a 40% increase in performance and better performance with eGPUs, it’s worth waiting for. The only case where 8th gen isn’t an update to hold off for is the 5W chips and probably some mobile i3s.

You know... Get the "Core", or just buy a new desktop for $1000. You can get something decent for that. Sad they are selling the core WITHOUT a GPU.
@WindowsCentral
@WindowsCentral 7 жыл бұрын
Sure, but then you don't have a laptop ;) There is an argument for having just ONE computer in your life and this enables it. Just like how some people buy the $4,500 Razer Blade Pro.

I am extremely familiar with the HD620; I am a reviewer for one of the largest tech websites around. It is not okay to call any laptop with an HD620 a "Gaming" computer in 2017. In 2012-13 you could have perhaps argued that.

>How the fuck is this a "gaming" ultrabook? It has HD620 graphics. If you *watched* the video you would see the part where I explain how this is really just an Ultrabook with a gamer-laptop appearance, which is where the Razer Core comes into. I also mention this a few times in the written review. For someone throwing your "professional" weight around you should really go beyond just reading titles before laying down a lame critique.
