George Washington University Economist Professor Steven Hamilton says the Reserve Bank will “do anything” to avoid an interest rate hike despite there being reason to.
Dr Hamilton’s comments follow the unemployment rate decline to four per cent in May.
“I think there was already a case for a hike,” Mr Hamilton told Sky News Australia.
“I think the RBA is going to do anything it possibly can to delay or avoid hiking again.
“I don’t think this piece of data pushes them to move.”

Inflation will peak in 4 years. Rates should go up .the level of debt is unprecedented so rates can't move higher. Unfortunately rates will rise and big business that over borrowed like everyone else will pass it on to the consumer. Hence Inflation isn't going anywhere and will peak in 4 years.

Everything points to the fact that rates have to rise The RBA is a pawn to the Government and the financial industry

It is certainly a pawn of the government. Trouble is Albo is having a bet each way. No leadership. He is more worried about the next election rather than fixing anything

The situation is beyond the ability of the current RBA to greatly influence. Persistent inflation is now more a function of excessive stimulus and profligacy by woke governments than of consumer demand. The RBA can influence the latter but not the former.

Yeah the RBA never raised rates high enough. Brisbane house prices are currently at 16% annualized growth. That's inflation in my book.

All fabricated numbers, fudging them up and mixing and matching, only collecting and showing only certain aspects of what they want everyone to see. Mean while at ground level, peoples rent, mortgage, bills, insurance, food, medical etc is all going and still going up. That is what matters.

They need to put rates up. Negative gearing needs to be abolished and foreign ownership decreased with empty apartments being taxed. The hike in rates would push house prices down, it may feed higher rents.

Good. Not all of us are debt slaves and the money we have saved should earn us some clip in the banks.

Still going to happen though… might as well get it over and done with so we can stifle inflation and move on to working our way out of this financial hole we are in.
