As a Christian, I strive to live and love like Jesus. These Christian Nationalists are chasing after power, something Jesus never did. Jesus did not complain about Roman rule. He did not try to 'make Israel great again.' He did not wage culture wars in the area where he lived. He loved, healed, forgave, and testified to who he was. He didn't force anyone to believe him. In fact, when the rich young ruler asked him how to attain eternal life, and Jesus told him to sell all he has and give it to the poor, the man walked away sad, and Jesus did not chase after him. Jesus didn't promote or 'sell' himself but humbly traveled the country ministering to others as he went. He did not look down on sinners or those marginalized by society. Christian Nationalists have lost sight of this Jesus--the biblical Jesus--as they misuse him to acquire political and cultural power.

As a Christian myself, this rise of right wing "Christianity" is heartbreaking. I've always believed that the core values of Christians is to let God's word be known, but also understanding that it needs to be CHOSEN by individuals. To force it on a nation is the exact opposite of what God would want. He wouldn't want followers with guns to their heads. It's not something you even CAN force onto people and it have any meaning. The hypocrisy is clear by them choosing to follow Trump, a man who so clearly is a symbol of excess. When Jesus said "Give everything you have to the poor and follow me" to the rich, that didn't mean "Evade taxes at all costs." The MAGA movement is a dark chapter in Christianity and one that we'll be trying to beg forgiveness for for generations.

To be fair, one of the biggest reasons Christianity is so big is because of the horrible things you listed. They did force entire groups to submit, taking their children and putting them into religious schools. Stomping out other cultures and religions. Killing people in the name of proselytizing. In the old testament, the Hebrews and god forced their religion on many people. Entire nations were destroyed by god and his people simply because they didn't believe or worse.. Because they just happened to be in the way (The town of Adam, most of the area that is now occupied by Jerusalem , Philistine, Sodom, Gemora, etc). Anyone who was in the way was either killed, r-ped, or both. For these thousands of people, a gun was to their head. We see what imperfect rulers have done. Doesn't matter what party the president is. None of them have solved our real problems. They have only caused further devision and hurt. As an American, I feel like many of our politicians and public discourse surround various sound bites that are often divisive ranging from identity politics to climate change issues, but never address more important problems like the economy, the world that’s falling apart, or the state of American infrastructure and military, both of which I think are failing as an institution.
