Thank you for making this series public and available to everyone. As a psychology student, I have found that social movements for racism, for authoritarianism, and for fascism manipulate the same cognitive dissonance functions. They mobilize around unjust ideals and values. Awareness is supplanted by manipulated perception. And the sense of efficacy is provided by a sense of authoritarianism. We must be aware that the power of those leaders who try to fill the gap with their own self-interest. Part of getting positive change is how it is framed psychologically.

Yes, but he needs to come up with a way to achieve his goals without dipping into other people's pockets. He also has a way of skirting around the truth: there is a reason or reasons that those of Far Eastern descent (Korean, Chinese, Japanese, etc) score near the top on every academic metric: they try harder, they study more, they for the most part avoid drugs. The tests certainly aren't skewed in their favor.

@@brendanjobe6895 Japan has about the most homogenous population in the world. The other countries you mentioned are similar. In the US, structural racism has eroded some people's constitutional rights. If racism wasn't a thing, why are Republicans so opposed to teaching critical race theory in American schools? The party that freed the slaves has now engineered ways to disenfranchise them, including prison. The Republican Party has turned into a cult.
@LarsvanZon

@@brendanjobe6895 You are absolutely right. We need to skip income base taxes altogether. If you add a lot of value, you get a lot. How do we pay that? Like a business: Money is an abstraction of the available resources, so we just require, very business-like, a minimum efficiency of the custodians of these resources. In a business it is usual to require a capital efficiency of at least 10%. So people with a lot of resources should deliver a likewise efficiency. You are not able to provide that efficiency? No problem, we shift the resources to someone who can. Proceedings go to the state, to deliver a safe and optimized environment for the people. And as all people have the same minimum rights on the resources, everyone, rich and poor, have a right on a minimum base income. That can easily be paid as we combine the strength of the capitalist system (efficiency based) with a human perspective. In short, if you deliver a lot, you get a lot, if you don't, we find someone who can. But even if you are not the best custodian of the resources, you will still get your share as human being.

I truly needed to hear this. I have been growing more cynical by the day. Especially about justice and about media. Thank you so very much for offering this invitation. I hope that since you will not be able to sit still during retirement, you will write more. I haven't wanted to save capitalism, especially lately, but now I will go buy your book. I truly hope that you can go fishing, or at least watch the sunrise or sunset from a pier. I hope you can take a nice nap every day in a comfortable recliner. And I hope you can be always accompanied by those you love. May God continue to bless you and keep you all the days of your life and beyond. ❤

I think the most important thing to keep in mind is to not seek revenge but try to improve your condition. Many on the right have worked hard to convince people that voting left, joining unions and engaging in civil disobedience doesn't count as working to improve your conditions but it does.

Judging from these lectures, he engages audience, making it a 2 way street (like a game), not just 1 way. Be it putting into a different mindset to see from a difderent perspective (like that roleplay with ACME). Also shows many UNDERLYING causes, not just "above water" consequences (like why moved to shareholder oriented companies).

@@edwardb7811I know, as someone, who tries to make engaging educational content, be it YT or video games or face-to-face. Due to alternatives and overall increased heightened reality, it gets more difficult. One of my favorite YT history channels is "Oversimplified" (like about Napoleon), who sets a golden standard how educational videos should look like - information only about the most important, while also being super funny and on point analogies. The best educational content is the one you do not even notice, but it has taught you something valuable.

Thank you! This has been a real eye opener. I knew something was a miss. As a micro mini business owner it's been really tough. I hope everyone on here will spend a little extra on us. We work twice as hard. I support the community and my employees the best I can possibly do. However, I can see how big corporations keep "rolling up services" from small businesses like me. I support health care for all, public education because it is good for small business. Thank you thank you!
@FlyingDwarfman
@FlyingDwarfman Жыл бұрын
You're so right about how healthcare and education costs are good for small business (I'll go further and say "absolutely necessary for them to compete with big business"). Economy of scale means that Mega Corp. can absolutely offer its' 30 million employees more 'benefits' (health insurance; tuition assistance; paid parental leave) than Doe Family, LLC. can to its' 3 employees. The latter has no chance unless someone even bigger than Mega Corp. (ie: the federal government on behalf of all 300 million Americans) steps up and includes the Doe Family with their peers.

The micro mini business people need our own unions lol ! We don't have the economy of scale. And, they cruise through my business and then copy it. It's easier to copy me (and others) than to do it on their own. I appreciate your reply.@@FlyingDwarfman

Thank you so much for puting this onto KZbin. I've come up with much of these things on my own but I am 55 years old (20 years getting trained to be a slave-35 trying to un-learn the first 20). I wish I would have seen or been challenged to watch and question something this important back then. I got there but have questioned myself along the way because I'm surrounded by people that haven't figured it out yet. What I could have done to help the last 35 years instead of getting sucked down the drain by the system. I'm afraid my likeability and finances make my words and thoughts less credible to others-I've been cautious of speaking out for fear I may harm the cause. My words appear to come out as radical and not really taken as seriously. "you're so smart-how come you haven't done anything for 55 years?". This course has given me new vigor and a verification that, although I learned it alone, I am correct-or at least my conclusions are shared by a respected and honest person as yourself. Thank You!

Hi Colleagues. I have been listening to Professor Robert Reich’s podcasts and ideas … ((who was the Secretary of Labor years ago; and who was originally recommended to me by a former fellow of mine, (who grew up quite differently than I grew up), who is a single child, who grew up in rural Hawaii, who put herself through Smith College, spent some time living in her car during medical school and did her residency at Mayo Clinic; who use to challenge, and push and push and push me to expand “my ‘real understanding’ of the world”)) … for more than a year. While I use to spend way too much time defending my (social/political) points-of-view … I am grateful, (I think 🤠) for having been push by my former fellow. Without explaining (or defending) my reasoning … I have decided to pass along Professor Reich’s last lecture, (of his career), that he recently delivered to his students at Berkeley. Whether you agree with all, some or none of the (political) ideas Professor Reich expressed and policies he promoted during his career, and more recently in his podcasts (that can be referenced on-line) … I think you, like me, will admire how he seems to really care about teaching and the wellbeing of his students. We, (you and I) are now, all connected, because of the really thoughtful and caring teachers, we experienced together (during our early careers). Fred

They were fellow workers who shared their experience. To follow the rules (health and safety); but also, the little this-is-faster/easier advise and attitude. By attitude, I mean surviving bosses and customers impatience, put-downs, traps, snears, and outright bullying. AND, go to the NEXT customer with courtesy and a smile, your fellow employees with a helping hand, sympathetic patience, and advice.

Thank you Prof Reich. Synchronistically, Prof Arthur Brooks spoke about Thomas Cole's The Voyage of Life painting in his "Managing Happiness" course on HarvardX. And I saw his lecture yesterday (summer school 2023), so this art piece is still very relevant. Much gratitude for your work.
