My beginning 1963 with an early RC Graupner Grundig radio and Falcon plane kit without tuition was "interesting".
Watch more of my videos on my Playlist:
/ @scalejetfred
After joining the Dublin Model Flying Club in Ireland things improved slowly.
I was first in Ireland trying to fly Schlueter Helicopter
1973 I was privileged to meet Gene Cernan, Astronaut and last man on the moon surface as well as John Young, Astronaut, Moon lander and first pilot of the Space Shuttle.
To day we see kids beginning to fly, having learned to fly in their PC simulators and using ARTF models.
So, lets go back to 1963...

I know this is a late reply, sorry about that but I just recently found your channel. Thank you so much for being able to produce footage from so long ago. It highlights how far our hobby has come. That is some wonderful early experience's. Reminds me of my early days. To think of those HUGE transmitters and no neck straps, what a workout. An era before retracts, ah, the memories. Thank you for posting and God Bless, Paul from Florida.

What a wealth of memories the 1963 footage brings into mind. I owned the previous 8ch Graupner/Grundig RC kit (only 4ch). At that time it was already outdated, as the receiver was regenerative, newer ones were superheterodine and the chs were on-off, when new proportional kits started proliferating. My pocket money wouldn’t allow such a kit so, I set out… constructing my own. This was the point that I switched from model airplane building to amateur radio. Thank you so much for the memories.

Yes, I had the Astronauts John Young and the last man on the Moon Gene Cernan in my car to visit a small local airfield. Wow, that was an amazing and awesome video! To see the progression of RC model planes (AND SOME OF THE RADIOS) from the past was very cool. Too think how far technology has come to what we have today is mind boggling in the world of RC planes. What you have on tape is a piece of history. I am 43 and I only have been in the hobby for 7 years and I love it. It is SOooo cool to see how RC plane modeling was WAY before I got into it. Thank you for your post. Hallo Fred, freue mich darauf!
