Pulling the string identifies the actual foul/fair boundary. The entire line is FAIR territory, therefore make sure you align the outside EDGE of the line with the string. Don't make the rookie mistake of centering the line on the string (applies similarly to batter's boxes). This is especially important when marking higher quality 4" lines, which should be standard with older age groups. NFHS, USA Softball, and NCAA rules all specify that pitching distance and the circle are both measured on center to the FRONT EDGE of the rubber, not to the middle of the rubber. Also, why cheap out and omit the catcher's box and 3' running lane! The running lane especially, is an important part of the game 🤔
