No doubt there will be a need to work in the trailer after dark - emergent repairs. While a natural surface would look great, white bulkheads should make the space brighter with better visibility. Just my thoughts. BTW, my wife enjoys watching your videos with me. So, maybe you can claim at least one female viewer. Thanks for your patience and hard work putting out these great videos.

You might want to consider painting the inside white. The trailer can get very dark inside. White paint will help to make it less dark. Also, I installed LED strip lighting all the way around the inside of my trailer.

Thanks Randy! I'm leaning toward the white paint!

Great project Jonathan! Wish I had room for one! Wireless cameras for the blind spots would be great. Varnish on the wood! LED strip lighting plus solar power for lighting and battery charging. I wouldn’t worry about the hail damage. Foam insulation on the ceiling like you said. Take one of your largest plane fuselages and put it in there to help you get an idea how much room it takes up and where it should be placed would help in your planning the interior. Have fun!
@thelightersideofrc4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Gogian! Great ideas. So far it's about a 50/50 split on the paint or varnish to the wood. HMMMMM.

If you seal the wood then it will look rustic, easier to clean, gets less dirty. Paint it white is neater and slightly more cleaning because it's white. if it was mine I would paint it white but it's your decision. white also matches outside of the trailer and if you have lights it will reflect more light and make it lighter inside the trailer. your choice but those are my thoughts.

I’ve got a 6x12 V-nose. I’m always making “improvements” to it. The one thing I did, and recommend to everyone is to remove the wood paneling, insulate the sides and the ceiling, then put the wood back up. While you have the wood sides off, you can run your wiring for lights, shore power, charging stations, etc.
@thelightersideofrc Жыл бұрын
Yea it's always a work in progress for sure! on this one I insulated the ceiling and very happy I did. On the next trailer I will insulate the walls and ceiling.

White really brightens up the interior, even with LEDs it will never seem bright enough. I would avoid any dark stains. That is an interesting floor finish with the paint chips. Nice, right up until you drop that M3 grub screw...lol.

The Lighter Side Of RC I was looking at a 7x14 V nose with an overall exterior height of 6’8” (80”) which would give me approximately 5’ interior height. Looking at several of the same ideas that you are doing in your trailer. Going to use the Etrack to make a shelf that doubles as a bunk when I’m traveling to events. Going to put two 30x15 sliding windows in the back so I have cross ventilation when laying on the bunk. Also looking at having it wired for 12v dome lights and four 120v ac plugs. One up front in the v above the work bench area, one opposite the side door for a mini fridge and two back near the back doors one below and one above the bunk/shelf so I can charge my models. Would like to make it so I can plug it into my house to keep the fridge cold and have power in the trailer when inside and then hook my generator up to it when I’m away. Basically a poor mans toy hauler that we can empty of airplanes and use as a camper when not flying. Just can’t decide on what I want to do for flooring or for the walls and ceiling. Insulation is on the list as well. I like the epoxy coating you did on your trailer and will definitely consider that with mine.

@thelightersideofrc4 жыл бұрын
Cool Idea Steven! Almost like a White Wash if that's the correct terminology?
@daryllfarrar21474 жыл бұрын
I would for sure go with white on the walls. patch/sand prep and paint. Doing the walls first is easier as any drips on the floor will get epoxied over...no matter. For sure take some time to consider your inside electrical needs. Will you install a 110V service plug outside (Marinco) and what will you want inside. 12V is also important to pre plan. I suggest a true deep cycle RV battery to power lights (instead of just off truck). Also plan out charge ports up on your bench, and run more charge lines to rear of trailer to charge planes in place. The OEM led light on the wall appears stand alone. I would look on Amazon for some LED lights to supplement the single one. Plan task lighting for over workbench or over planes. Up on the hail damaged roof I would roll on elastomeric rv roof coating (white) sold at home improvement stores. It will fill in some of the hail dents and helps lower the temps inside your trailer. Subscribed for the build
@thelightersideofrc4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Daryll for subbing and watching! Also thank you for all the suggestions! My plan as of right now is to basically rely on 110V service. I generally bring my Honda 2000 to the field. I ordered a shore plug/connection so fire up the Honda. Plug into the connector and that will run the lights, plugs, chargers and the works. I'm not sure at this point if I will put in a 12v system. Planning on LED 4ft shop lights for the trailer ceiling x 2 and than one over the front, work bench area.

Nice trailer. You're spooky, you keep hitting on al the topics I'm thinking about (no house build though). I think you're on the right track on how you want to lay it out. I was thinking pretty much the same myself of the workbench in there, for sure insulation in the ceiling and the floors came out really well in the video. As far as the sides, my initial thought was just clear polyurethane since the wood has a nice pattern with no knots. But after seeing the floor, white walls would look sharp and brighten it up. Run some tracks vertically on 1 side, keep the current ones now just in case (options). The real question is what you're going to paint on the outside : ) Concerning your house build, I would be interested in how you lay out your shop. You're a lot more neater than I am, but there's hope. Had a laugh when you mentioned the weather. Your flying season is coming to a close and mine is just starting. It's amazing how nice a 100* day is after being out flying at 115* in Southern Arizona. Lastly, you have another channel??? Links please.
@thelightersideofrc4 жыл бұрын
Hey Kent! Funny how that works! I have the same thing happen to me often. i guess it's ask and the universe provides! The white walls seem to be getting the majority of the votes and it does make sense. Definitely want to add some vertical track. I was playing with position of the cross supports tonight so I could get the verticals in the right place. And also doing some general layout stuff, etc. For now the outside will stay plain. When we are moved to the new acreage than i'm not worried about decals on the outside/advertising etc. So that may be next year's upgrades! This is my favourite time of year up here. 60-70 during the day and 40-50 at night. My wife and I were just talking about that the other day. My other channel is very different. It's here. kzbin.info It's been quite successful and fun and it's what started my KZbin journey. There is quite a story with that one. Thanks for watching, commenting and the support! Wow we have a lot in common, I’ve been wanting a Nissan Armada but ended up with the Toyota Sequoia, my f-16 fits in it nice but my 1/5 carbon cub on pontoons doesn’t fit, I’m trying to justify the cost of a trailer to my gf but she’d rather have a camper trailer! And poly on the wood would make it shine and give plenty of reflection light with LEDs. And a shop video with any specialty tools (including the trusty bent screwdriver) would be valuable information to us fellow pilots
@thelightersideofrc4 жыл бұрын
HAHA! Awesome Scott! First, Thanks for watching. Yea guys are often surprised when I keep pulling stuff out of every nook and cranny of the Armada! It fits a TON of Stuff! Our problem now is we have a camper trailer and this cargo trailer. So when I go to events It's either set up a bed in the trailer or the armada i suppose or get a hotel room. I am very partial to having a shower at the end of the day so that's one thing I would miss if I slept in the trailer or Armada. So next step for us might be to get a Motorhome, Van type thing. I'm not really a motor home type guy but I suppose I can adapt. I'm loving the great response for the trailer build and shop build! Thanks for watching and trusty bent screwdriver should be helping with the trailer build soon.

I'd get the spare tire out of the inside. Its not hard to get it mounted on the hitch....where it belongs. Excellent builds. I'm form Calgary as well....
@thelightersideofrc4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Chuck! Do you fly? I was thinking about the spare but ran into a couple things. 1. With it being a V nose there is not much room up there. 2. I was worried about the mounting on the wall and possibly coming loose. But near the rear of the trailer there is a square channel in the wall. That spare tire mount is mounted to the steel square channel. So I don't think it runs the risk of coming off. IS that why you suggest it?

After I insulated the walls and put the siding back up, I put up 1/8” white shower board all around. It’s glossy and reflects light very well. Just a bonus, it’s a great for writing on with dry erase markers. Sans the shower board, a couple of coats of quality enamel on the walls would be helpful. When my Rustoleum floor paint started peeling off, I put that interlocking rubber flooring down. It’s cheap, replaceable, and easy on the knees.
