To be honest I haven't run Nitro for about 20 years, I would suggest checking the rc forums to see which brands are popular now. Just make sure it's a good reputable brand and you should be fine.

OK some tips from an old rc boat racer from down under..First that yellow hull needs some trim tabs tied into a mix so you can keep the nose down in the straights and set up so it pushes the nose down in the corners so you can stay full throttle longer and not worry about flipping or flying off into the wind. Second I used to take an old fishing rod with a 3gang anchor type hook with blunt tips to retrieve my boat when it did flip or run out of fuel :-D Hope that helps :_D

you got suggestions for my smash shark on 4s? it wont stop skipping ive setup the prop so its lower and that lowerd the skip enough to reach higher speeds but on witha very slight turn, it doesnt come with trims tabs its a stepped v hull if im right. im upgradin to a 2200kv leopard brushless motor and 5s lipo soon just want some advice to keep it more stable. ive got onboard footage if that may help

Ricky Cooke Try adding trim tabs and a hook blade like you see on the inside sponson of a hydro/outrigger to the transom. placed about 1 inch inside from side you turn. The guy I buy all my boats from puts them on as a matter of course and my boat turns on a dime at full noise 90 degree turn in 1,5 boat lengths or less. hope that helps.

I ended up buying somw tfl trim tabs 38mm x 32mm as suggested on a few race boat forums and im well and truly hitting over 60 kmh due to zero skipping. Tried a 6s on my leopard 2200 kv 3674 motor and im not doing that again - too quick but still stupid stable. Can wait to get my new prop the old one has a good chip towards the front the old prop is a 38mm 1.4p and i still waiting for the 1.4p 40mm prop. Setup runs near hot in esc due to the rudders small watter nipple but every ither niple is quite large. So im reaserching some rudders with a twin water pickup and 3.5 - 4 mm nipples so it cools properly. Im guestamating top speed will be over 100 kmh once finished on 6s. And 4s roughly 60-70 kmh

im having trouble balancing my 40mm prop i just got - am i meant to be filing down th flat spot on the back of the blade? been using a magnet balancer with rounded magnets so its very accurate but ive shaved a fair bit off and its still heavy on the shaved side wtf?

I have a suggestion to make the rescue of your boats a lot easier, Simply put a couple of rare earth magnet on your rescue boat or speed boats.Weight is minimal and strong enough to capture and tow boat back to safety.

just a suggestion try using some rubber windows sticky tape sealer if the hatch is bolted or something similar if its tapped its tapped

A good idea for retrieving the other boat is to make a foam piece that just tapes on to the other boat on the front that is a large arc to go around the other boat so it cant go anywhere but the direction the pushing boat does

pretty great example as to why you grab the waterproof clear hockey tape and seal the hatches... ive flipped my brushless cat so many times on big lake, but have never had a drop inside it

You probably can use 20% but won't be very fast. When I used to run nitro boats we used at least 40% but preferred 60% to go fast. That was back in the 80s and 90s. They probably use stonger than that by now.

that was definitely a bass, or northern. Those fish are the only ones big enough to do significant damage to a boat that size. I'm sure it wasnt a muskie though because then it would have probably swallowed the boat whole.

Earlier that day we Frank's boat hit something too, we think it was a fish too, but din't get it on film. It was near Dusk, so maybe the fish were feeding on bugs at the time too, LOL

I think you should use electrical tape or something along those lines to tape the seal around the canopy. I have had a few boats sink from turtles, even had my own turtle attack with a mini brushless boat and it was underwater for almost a minute.

No, there was a fish, but it struck the water after the boat crossed a previous wake at an aggressive angle, thus causing said boat to rise unevenly out of the water. It doesn't take much lift at all to cause formula style boat hulls to flip. The guy driving the red boat really needs to learn how to respect the property of others though. I mean, we learn how to do that in the early years of elementary school for Pete's sake!! It was terrible for him to damage the yellow boat like that. After the two boats became ensnared, he continued to spin the heck out of his propeller.You could hear the red boat's prop hitting the yellow boat, and still he continued hitting the throttle!! Is he so clueless that he didn't realize his prop could really damage the other boat?!? Not to mention the fact that it was flat out stupid to take such a risk when they had an actual rescue boat!!! What a buffoon!! If I were the owner of the yellow boat I would have cussed that dude out at the top of my lungs, then started throwing rocks at his boat!!! He was being an inconsiderate A-hole weather he meant to or not........ (Kudos to the owner of the yellow boat for keeping his cool while his "friend" blatantly tried to chop away at his own, very expensive formula race boat!!)

This is why you should carry a small fishing pole with you when you go R/C boating. In case of upset , cast a line with a good weight on it to snag yer boat. I almost lost a $1,400 dollar boat from an upset and no fishin pole.
