I saw a clip of the Liberty Ship Jeremiah O'Brien in the last frames of the video and wanted to mention my dad used to go up to SF and volunteer in some capacity back in the mid 2000s, maybe up to around 2008. He then became too weak to continue due to cancer, to his knowledge he was the only WWII Merchant Marine veteran on board at the time. At the start of WWII, he tried to enlist in another service or two but since he was only 15 at the time they wouldn't take him. His solution was to lie about his age when he applied for the Merchant Marines (as I'm sure many others did at the time) and that worked. He served until the end of the war. I recall a book he had about the Merchant Marines and their activity during WWII and I was amazed at the number of combat related casualties the Merchant Marines sustained, in fact a higher percentage relative to the other services overall. I also remember how proud he was to finally achieve veterans status and he had the document related to this on display in his living room.

RetoFor I have my concerns when it comes to the quality of police recruits from this generation. Let's just say conversations I've had with recruiters and field training officers points to a number of these recruits applying for reasons not shared by Vietnam era recruits and this evolved over time to many recruits post academy having difficulties making field decisions. In my personal opinion the "What you can do for your country" attitude changed to "What can the department do for me?" Coincide that with the use of cellphones as the standard method of communication instead of one on one and you now have an impersonal generation, uncomfortable in their own skin. I know what I'm saying here is a generalization, but after many years and conversations with key people I used to work with, I think some of these same concerns could be applied to other occupations.

Was on that ship in S.F. in August 97, the Q for Alcatraz was too big. Went on the Sub as well, turns out it was one of three, that sank my great uncles, Japenese P.O.W. ship. Found out later it did not hit the fatel shot, but weird shit anyway.

That's cool. My grandfather served on an LCT (landing craft tank) in the royal navy in WW2. He was there on D-day, but I'm not sure which ship or beach. I can't ask him, as he's no longer with us.

The landing craft is fully custom built. For the tanks I can not say in detail but the Sherman tanks are based on bought models, even so further detailed by the model owner. The half track is custom built too.

Sorry, I would not know in detail but it is fairly powerful. The landing craft can easily carry an adult person and tow another rubber tube boat with a passenger.

These shots are already quite a while back so I would not know what the tank models are using as a base. For sure they are tailored and improved. I might guess that it is Tamiya whereas the half track is fully custom made.

Thanks! The landing craft is mainly from wood with glas fibre coating. The tanks are - as far as I recall - mainly plastic and the caterpillar drive is metal.
