I like belt drives more because they are easier to repair / harder to break and they are quiet. But I see why you like torque tubes. Both are good options with different qualities

Torque tube is good for 3D as it gives instant tail response without any lag. The only down side is if you strike the tail you break the tail gears. The belt driven is good for new flyers and it is forgiving when you strike the tail but lags little in tail response when doing 3D because the belt is stretching when given more power and how tight or lose the belt was installed. Both are fun to fly.

So for someone more interested in scale belt seems to be the way to go?

Haven't flown a goblin yet but I do like the torque tube option better than belt but I hate how easily the TT gears strips.

After all the issues I had with shaft driven micros I felt my belt driven trex 500 was the way to go...smooth quiet. Now I'm flying a Blade 550x ...smoother quieter

Yep,,I agree 100% Ray as Im still using my OEM's,but I know guys using them and they've had tail strikes that split the blades and not hurt the gears. I bought mine as backups thinking they were weak or something,,but so far with 103 flights,,oem TT gears are still going strong, lol. I don't know when I'll get to use mine,,,but I have them and the Maingear hanging on my Heli Room wall. It's kind of like the DX8,,had mine since Xmas and have so many flights with the 450's and 600,NP's at all.

Theoretically the Trex 500 would auto rotate better right? Also would put less drag on the motor since everything is easier to turn?

Hi Ray. Considering the upgrades on the Trex 500X would you recommend going for the torque tube or for the belt drive system? Thanks

Torque tube

Guy's,, the Torque gear stripping days are over,(at least I haven't seen the new ones strip yet). I bought the black gears as backups and from what I've seen so far, you'll beat your tail blades off before you strip them. Get yourself the Upgraded main gear while your at it as it's the same material and bullet proof as well! It's a Torque Tube for me.

the goblin spun for 7 seconds and the trex 500 spun for 19 seconds thats a huge difference in smoothness and less drag

But tt are not remotely forgiving, you give it the slightest bend in even a small crash and the whole thing is useless and needs chsnging due to vibration with torque tube or boom not being straight anymore. Id say it slightly helps battery life but it just isnt enough of a pro over belts.

Ray I love your Goblin 500. Gosh what a beautiful heli. I got the Alzrc 380 devil a 380 goblin clone. It flies nice and steady but....................... Just like the goblin 380 the Alzrc is tail belt driven. Now to me it doesn't matter TT vs Belt they both have their pros and cons for example with belt driven tails you get quieter flight times but some loss of power. Now with TT or Torque Tubes you get smoother more sustained power as shown in the video but their more loud or noisier. I really dont have any preferences. I mean some guys do I understand I respect their decisions that they stand by. If someone put a gun to my head Lmao and told me to choose Belt Drive or TT I'd have to flip a coin. Would you agree Ray? Or do you have your own view on belt driven or Torque Tube?

Belt may tear and a tube does not. But tube driven make the tail heavier and in my case with trex 500 ESC I need to have 6s (and not less) battery to balance that heavy tail. In general, tube feels much better.

torque tube is sweet but I'm sure ya pay for that nice "Cadillac ride." If budget permits it's the way to go.

Didn't have to count, the torque tube driven is 100% less drag than the belt driven goblin!
