This is a closeup look at the RC Workboat Haven Tugboat. Many features were improvised using materials on hand. Electronics are simple and the tug is powerful and maneuverable.

The speed controller pushes a lot of amps for those motors. I only ever ran 80A at most and stays just warm, fan cooled. In my catamaran the controller is 120A water cooled. This boat travels at 66.6mph. A lot less amps !!! Happy sailing.

That is a good point. If you go onto EBay and search "Double Way 320A brushed Motor Electric Speed Controller for RC Car Boat Mode" you will see the ESC with a fan that I've been using. It could be because it is so inexpensive that it is so inefficient. I have never had any problem with these ESCs but they could develop. Thanks for the heads up.

I've built a functional towing model of the Atlantic. She's pulled 800 pounds at 2mph, and she's pulled me in my kayak six miles. I'm certain I can get 10 miles or better. Playlist on my KZbin "Tugboat Atlantic, with videos from dock, kayak, and onboard. I chose not to make mine with the fine details like you do here. I wanted to use her, rather than just play. Details are fragile, but she's still got lots of goodies, primarily to make her an all-weather, all-waters towboat. I regularly take her out on the Columbia River in the US Pacific Northwest. Big water indeed.

Thank you for your comment. I am using an inexpensive eBay ESC that is labelled "ESC made in China" You can find these by searching eBay for "320A High Voltage ESC Brushed Speed Controller Cooling Fan for RC Car Truck Boat" Try to get the one that will control 2 motors. (they describe it as "two way brush electric adjustment") I have the ESC in 4 different boats and they have given me no problems. They are only about US$15 ! Good luck. Brian RCWH

Lovely Tug. Just for your info, yout tx/rx are the Dumbo Rc brand, not Dumborg as you seem to state. Great look at your boat non the less.

I bought the grease gun and 5oz tube at a local Hobby store in Barrie Ontario called Ideal Hobbies. The gun and grease are advertised as a Dynamite (Dubro?) DYNE4200 Grease gun and tube. Most RC stores would have them.

Good comment and question. In the future a model like the tugboat could be offered for sale by RCWH, or a copy of the model you see on the videos. The RCWH channel is intended to encourage a DIY build of RC Workboats as cheaply as possible. A model like the tugboat would be fairly priced between US $1,500 and US $1,700 if it were built by a custom RC model builder. There is simply no way around it...you either get the model pre-built custom or you do it yourself. Brian RCWH

I actually built that platform from scratch myself, it wasn't purchased from a company. But there is no reason why you can't take the concept and make your own DIY stand. The really useful feature is that the model can turn 360 degrees, and you can pick up a 6" x 6" swivel base (used for kitchen lazy susans) at your local Home Depot, Rona, Lowes etc. as a start. Hope that helps!

When the time comes that we can offer hulls for sale we'll definitely make a series of announcements on the channel. But truth be told, we are a long way from that point as we need to grow the channel to a certain size to verify that there's enough demand to justify getting into the model hull business.
