One of the things that crosses my mind when I watch these vids are...how MANY have learned to fly the ‘HARD’ way? How many downed RC aircraft have had to be Rebuilt or replaced. None the less,it’s very cool to watch good pilots take them through their pace

Great flying and beautiful heli. One thing I like about RC helicopters is how the characteristics of how they fly, makes them look so real in flight, as compared to planes that always seem a bit jerky and skittish, especially on takeoffs and landings.

This one is WAY more realistic than the one they used at the end of the movie for the loop scene. You could see the flybar and paddles. I guess they didn't have scale three bladed rotors let alone turbine engines for r/c helicopters back in 1983. These were just pipe dreams for us back in the day... There was a company (I dont remember who) that kitted this helicopter briefly back in 84-85. I dont think it sold very well as it was astronomically expensive for that time. I think it was in the realm of $1300 or so... This ship is a beauty. If I was judging it for scale competition the ONLY thing I would take him to task over is the armor on the underside of the tail boom. In Blue Thunder the armor had a crossed hatch look to it. Kind of like a cyclone fence. That is the only "flaw" that I see as a Blue Thunder movie nut. This thing is really outstanding though and I'm just nit picking! LOL Plus--Where the hell is JAFO?

The movie was actually filmed in June-July 1981 but wasn't released until two years later for whatever reason. John Badham said it took a long time to edit together in post production from all the footage so maybe that had something to do with it

That was amazing. I am also disappointed that it did not, or could not, do the most famous move from the movie. The loop. That would have been over the top super amazing to see. :'(
