WOW !!! this wing is outstanding, a great performer, super agile, good lifting qualities and its bullet proof solid. best wing i have put together yet bar none. i have 7 wings hanging on the wall, most are ft versa wings with and without various sizes of blunts, a tek sumo, and a couple of my own design but this zephyr will be my new first choice to fly. i downloaded the pdf yesterday and started building... used a d2826-6 2200kv, 30a esc, 9g mg servos for the elevon's, a couple of sg9g servos for rudder/air brakes on the statbilizers at wing tips (there useless though) all running off a 2200mha 3s 40c lipo. had to throw almost 5oz of dead weight on the nose due to the reinforcements i added but that's ok, it's a test bed for my fpv gear. super satisfied ! thanks for sharing Clint Judd, the video was well done sir. cheers

Pretty talented i remember building my first zagg and i went out and bought drywall conrer bead glue and ended up melting all the foam and lost like a hundered dollar foam body when glueing the two wings together. This guy built the whole wing from scratch pretty nice. Although the zagg wing is more rounded in the enge would probably fly smoother but for do it yourself from a couple of pieces of styrafoam and tape its pretty amazing.

Nice build and really good video. I know I'm only 7 years too late compared to everyone else....LOL. I watched the whole thing from start to finish and thoroughly enjoyed it. I love it when I find someone that makes a build look so simple. You now join that list. I've been building my wings with carbon arrow shafts for extra strength, something I learned from Ed from Experimental Airlines, but perhaps not absolutely necessary all the time. I keep thinking that eventually, the wing will fold under stress and pressure without them - perhaps not? The other thing is I always build a fold-able wing for space and transportation, but I may actually do one that is fixed and unitary. Cheers.

Hi. I have tried to introduce twist from center to tip but cant say I saw a result. this twist can only be added when gluing the trailing edge. So what Id recommend is is using a wedge the length of the wing and stick it to the underside temporary at the trailing edge to create your twist. Press down or clamp the wing along its spar line to pin it down then glue the trailing edge together. This should create the the twist or washout that you are after.

@Cjudd00112 жыл бұрын
Hi, my build comes out around 55" using the 2 30" sheets. Id start with that as a size as power will only dictate speed for this wing. Im guessing that the power setup you mentioned is what you have.. It will be ok but Id run 2 batteries up in the nose along the leading edge to get the CG right. I use the turnigy 2223 4400KV motor on a 4.75 X 4.75 TGS prop with the towerpro 40amp ESC and 2 X 2200mah 3S batteries in parralel. I had enough lead in the nose that it was equal to an extra battery..

lol, long ago in a land far away..... a board of Foam rose up to beCome, a WING. It's a pleasure to watch anyone work when they have mastered the materials they're working with. You've obviously built a few & the directions are at the link but I didn't see the actual measurements? Or even a sliding scale that I could use. I'm new so there may be other places to find a wing for me? If you happen to drop in, please send me to a place where I can start? Pls? thanks for the video, it's inspiring to see your work

@@Cjudd001 ~ Been LQQKing/Thinking about flying for a month now. Not much time & I'm the hands on type. I've done all kinds of woodworks in antique restorations (carving/veneering) so I'm trying to assemble the plans. I know the 2 foams/glues I'd like & also I'm closing in on cheap carbon fiber for strength. THe plans are paramount in being a success & I se e you've done that here. As you can guess, I've got many other questions but if I get a plan to go w/ the materials I'll figure out the electronics I need along my journey...... I just don't want a pile of parts that I grow out of too fast? Ya know? You do know & TY for the videos.. peace
You can size it however big or small as you want.. That is about 1200mm in the video.

Im sorry I never released that info. the CG is roughly about 2/3rds of the center chord from the leading edge. Before any maiden with my wings I never actually measure this other than a hand toss over my head into the wind.. If the nose comes down then she's all good. I like my nose to be heavy. it reduces the pitchyness of the plane

I don't want to spend a lot on a transmitter.Would a cheap toy say a x5c-1 transmitter work with the electronics in this wing. Do you have any idea on what inexpensive transmitter I can use with this. Or would any say 4 channel and up transmitter work with it. Thank you for all the info you share with me. appreciated a lot.

NXSAlex , I mount my motor so the the bottom mount is flush with the bottom of the plane. The prop can still strike the ground so I tend to land on grass the majority of the time. The only props Ive broken have been from botched launches with the throttle up. I use TGS sports props in a 4.75 X 4.75. Putting a keel undeneath to stop this might help but it will definately cause more adverse yaw when banking. How many props have you broken?
@NXSAlex10 жыл бұрын
Sorry Clint, I didn't noticed that you answered to me! haha I have the motor in the same position so the prop can stike the ground too, and I've broken 2 props, the same props that you use, I followed completely your recomendations in the building haha! And now I'm planing to add to this great plane a multiwii flight controller with gps and osd, and maybe a folding prop, there are cheap ones in hobbyking. What size could be used with this setup? I've seen a 6x4 folding prop and 7x4 too, but seems to be tiny props... What would you recomend me? Thank you so much!

Great plane, so far. I have build mine and i'm the middle of getting the electronics, my plane is 1080mm from wing tip to wing tip and was wondering where the cg should be. I'm working it at 150mm from the tip of the nose but I need about 600g of weight at the front and was wondering is the cg correct? Your help would be great thanks.
@Cjudd00111 жыл бұрын
measure your center chord. times that by 68% and that is your CG from the leading edge. I always run 2 batteries as you are right about the extra weight up front. There was enough to warrant running another battery.

I have been experimenting with the foam board in efforts to create a flying wing. Have flown some Zagi's. Question I have is have you considered a method in which to get some spanwise twist in the wing halves for some tip stability. See my channel for my build of the OmniWing Paper Airplanes. I employ spanwise twist within these designs with great success.
