The CT-100 uses a CTC-2 chassis and was one of the first RCA color sets to be introduced in USA in 1954. One of the major problems this model suffered during its short production run, was with the CRT (15GP22) being prone to losing vacuum due to the way it was built, compared to other tubes at the time.

It had to start with something. I, too, am amazed at the electronics in this TV. On Wikipedia they have the chassis pulled out and it is even more amazing to see it. My grandfather bought an RCA color set in 1959 or 1960, a big, black metal cabinet, 19 or 21 inch roundie. Had it for years.

I googled it and the original price of that model was $1,000 in 1954 and by using inflation calculator is $8,945.99 in 2016 which is more expensive than 60" OLED 4KTV.

Whoever originally purchased this probably had some neighbors, and neighbor's kids, come over to see it and ooh and ahh at it. At that time, not everybody even had black and white TV's, much less a color TV.

you see the back panel of this rather historic edition, has a wave-guide pattern, as we see on the door windows of microwave ovens, -so we don't wind up scorching our corneas, ..for breakfast. flyback cage looks robust, but what serves up the x-rays, isn't in there, someplace?

The Incorruptibles CBS also had occasional broadcasts in color until 1959, when Bill Paley discontinued them (the result of spite against RCA's David Sarnoff). The famous CBS 1955 special with Noel Coward and Mary Martin, "Together With Music", was broadcast in color. ABC did not have color broadcasting capabilities until the middle 1960s.

ABC broadcast 'The Flintstones' in color beginning in 1962. Only a handful of ABC owned and operated stations along with a few affiliated stations had color capability at that time. The ABC stations that didn't have color capability would hold the start of the show until after the "This is an ABC color presentation" intro played so as not to confuse the people in the audience who owned color TVs in those areas where it was broadcast in black and white. For several years ABC was the only other network to broadcast color programs until CBS began in 1965 with 'The Ed Sullivan' and other programs.

I was a little kid in the early 60s. Folks went grocery shopping on Friday nite. There was a TV dealer next to the A&P and the shop owner let dad drop me off to watch the Flintstones in color while parents shopped. I think that's what got me interested in electronics. Also loved Jonny Quest in 1964 - best TV cartoon ever!
