My first impressions of the RCBS Chargemaster Supreme, my first auto powder dispenser.
Excitement turned to disappointment, then contentment. I think I'll keep it after all.
This is first of many videos I will be making on this unit. It does come with an instruction book, but it is a bit confusing to understand. I hope these videos will walk you through what they attempt to describe in the instructions they provide.

I’ve got an old charge master Before the touch screen inputs Seems fine and super convenient so far The tube does drop a few grains of powder on the plunger for the weight though, I think, being able to remove the cover to clean that area would be a great addition to the preservation of the super sensitive scale and longevity of the machine If you have a balance beam scale, I’d run through ten charges and check the variance in the weight the machine is reading. Even the high end, most bad ass scales will have some sort of variability in the weight While it may be minor, it’d be good to know when you’re making some match ammo

Great job, man. I have an old Chargemaster, it’s probably 12 years old. I like it. It’s simple enough and quick to use. The feed tube fits snugly, but getting the powder out is a pain. I just move it to the side of the table and dump it back into the powder jug. I usually use a can of compressed air or my air compressor set to 20 psi to get the last few pieces out. Never thought of using a dryer sheet to help keep the powder from sticking. Solid tip!

I need to get a can of the compressed air and try that, good tip. The dryer sheet has served me well, especially with the fine flake powders. Appreciate the comments and you taking the time to watch the video. Thanks

The metal pan isn't really meant for delivering charges directly to the case IMO, I use the metal pan to pour into a drop-tube funnel and leave my cases in the tray. The plastic cover has a static build up that is causing the weight shifts. Clean it with a glass cleaner should help with this issue. I had to do this to my drop-tube funnel as well, because powder was clinging to the funnel due to static.

Thanks, I appreciate the positive input. I am still learning how to use it correctly. I have a set of the funnels/tubes and kept having issues with the fine grain powder spilling out due to a cap between the funnel and the case. I experimented today and found that if I used the next small size, I had no problems. So for a 45 acp, the 40 size is too big, but the 30 fits and there is no powder loss. It all goes into the case.

That cover is probly acrylic material I’d be suspect of a minor amount of static electricity in the cover That would be enough to disrupt the scale If you have a grounded surface, you may be able to wipe the cover on it and remove some the static Just an idea

Great video. As you know static can cause issues, I’m glad you removed the protective film from the display as it is another source of static. There are ESD placemats with grounding wire that can go under the unit and can be cut down to size. Also electrical noise from an appliance or device on the same circuit or in proximity to the reloading area is a known issue for digital scales. I just ordered mine and hope to see more videos from you as you work out the bugs.

Thanks, I'm still learning and I'm never in a hurry when I reload, so I just take my time and wait until it is fully warmed up.

Right out the gate, do *not* pour directly from your scale pan into your case. Use a decent powder funnel instead, preferably one with a drop tube at least four inches long to allow the powder to better settle into the case and not interfere with bullet seating. Don't pick up the case, but instead leave it in your case tray, then work your way across the rows of cases in the tray. Also, I've never had a problem with my Chargemaster 1500 spilling powder when I dump my pan, but I exercise some appropriate car to not breathe on the platen or bump the dispenser tube. As for the problem of getting the last of the powder out of the unit, just do as I do and first remove the powder pan and platen, then carefully tip the unit toward toward the drain. You can use the brush inside the bottom of the reservoir area to sweep errant grains down there, and a quick blast of canned air can nudge the last of the grains down the drain.

Those clear plastics have a tendency to pick up a static charge. My FA Intellidropper would also register a negative weight when placing the clear plastic cover. After some time this stopped happening on mine most likely because the plastic cover lost it’s charge. Most likely, your clear plastic cover is statically charged and is imparting a tiny upward force on the scale platen. Also, initially, powders would stick to the sides of the clear plastic powder hopper from static charge… that went away over time. Try wiping the plastic surfaces with anti-static wipes too see if it eliminates the static. My frankford arsenal died so I’m waiting for my chargemaster supreme to arrive to replace it… This time I am going to try to eliminate or reduce static right when it is new. Cheers

The cover electrostatic charge interact with the platen or even more with the metal powder pan. Use Electrolube Anti-Static Spray or Anti Static Acrylic Cleaner on your cover.

O scene people use a shell case on the dispenser, they use a pipe cutter and tape up the spout to make it a tighter fit, and slide the shell case neck over the spout to help with your issue.

If you read the sticker below the platen (where the pan goes) it clearly says "remove this label before use."

Apparently the change in zero when you put the cover on is because of the static charge buildup on the cover. RCBS explains it in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJDVnJV8ZZ2sepo

Thanks for the link. That was very informative. And thanks for watching. I'm still learning how to program it. I think I have the MEM setup figured out on the unit itself, but the phone app is still giving me fits.

@@JustDeeOutdoors in general, if you intend to use a scale with cover, you have to 0 and calibrate with cover or the other way arround. It has to do with the weight of the air on the platen

@@Mr79dream Thanks, I just never use the scale with the cover on it. I have no draft here in the reloading room, so the cover isn't needed. I was just curious as to why it was affecting it when I was first testing it out. I just the cover now to protect it when I'm not using it.

I left the protective sticky clear sheet on there in case I returned it. I decided to keep it and have since removed that so it is flat.
