This was the entry into the rc hobby for me when I was a kid. Nice to see it again. A friend of mine rammed it into a concrete wall and it broke in half, and that was the end of the striker 🙃

Got this for christmas 1987, best thing ever! My dad had to repair it so many times that the whole chassi was more glue and metal than plastic after a few years. :D

I would leave the striker as it is wouldn't bother painting it because I think it was one of those rc's that was designed to be built quickly then used within an inch of its life! Excellent vid again by the way!

Although it's got design problems, this car is a classic example of Tamiya's brilliance. From the perspective of somebody who had never assembled or ran or driven an RC car, the Striker made it easy and affordable to make the first step on the ladder. the manual and the packaging were laid out perfectly and made the process utterly transparent and understandable. Compared to the the very woeful RTR stuff at the same price point of the time, this was a little rocket. By the time I ordered the Thunder Shot that replaced it, mine was as much Araldite as Tamiya, but by then, it had done it's job of getting me completely hooked not just on RC, but motorsports in general.

Love the use of packaging tape on these boxes😉 Wow! Wasn't expecting so many random parts out of the first box....so cool! I remember when I was a kid and visiting the local hobby shop and the rows of Tamiyas I would just drool over....except the Striker, but as I mentioned in your last video....times have changed and I absolutely love it now. Gorgeous!! Your going to here me say this a lot in your comment sections of your videos...."I love your collection!!!" I love how they're set up against the wall too! I'm trying to figure out myself how I can pull something like that off! Great video as well as this channel!!👍👍

The Striker was my first Tamiya RC in 1989. Very interesting times, 2-channel-radio for 80 bucks and only one servo includet. Battery for 25 bucks and only 1200 mAh (driving times around five minutes). The Striker had a very modern design for the time, single wheel suspension at the back and low profile tires. Although I crashed the chassis on the first run at the curbside, I like the Striker. We had no internet, so I couldn't find out that the the chassis had a mayor problem bevor I bought it. Hope there will be a release sometime. I wouldn't drive the car, but it'll make a fine shelfqueen.

Love it! I have 3, all need work, yours is mint! Regarding, I would not recoment it, the MCI decals have not the right hue of the blue color, and orginal stickers are hard to come by. But the driver head needs a redo, looks plain wrong lol. I have very fond memory of driving a Striker in the winter, on hard packed snow. Technigold was real fun sliding sideways on the street. That was my first hobby grade car. Now i got 3 of them and still run them, of course with a major supply of parts. I could probably build 8 more, including the chassis and body and decals.

The Sonic Fighter was my first RC car. The front end snapped, and the trailing arm mounting point broke off. Didn't think I would still be playing with RC cars, should have kept it lol.

I hated the Striker originally. Now I really like them. I bought one a few months back with the full knowledge that the chassis was broken. I managed to find a new old stock chassis (hens teeth) and paid overs for it tbh. So now I have an occasional runner Striker that needs a paint job and stickers. I've been trying to find a Sonic Fighter front shock tower to put on it so I can upgrade to CVA shocks, but so far no dice. Hard to find. Also, get a decent knife to cut boxes open with.

Lol, they're rare because they have an inbuilt self destruct mode that activates if you even dare to breathe on them. My first ever 1/10th rc car and damn that thing was brittle. It barely ever managed to finish a race without the chassis needing replacing.

Just picked up a mint one myself. Only thing is it has the oiled filled shocks all around and sonic fighter front tower. But I really want this back to original. Unfortunately I’ve been searching high and low here in the states and nothing. If you ever come across any of the front and rear shocks and front tower parts please let me know. (Not sure how to put contact info here privately) This was my first rc as a kid and I would like to bring it back to original. Won’t be running it. Thank you and keep up the great vids.

You might have to pick up a second car for the parts you need. It's bonkers but I've had to do that before. I would find out the part numbers and see if another Tamiya car uses them.

The Dyna Blaster and the Stadium Blitzer trucks? Yes these are completely different trucks. The Dyna Blaster is basically a Dyna Storm with a truck body so it’s really a track focused truck with great suspension and gearbox. The Stadium Blitzer is a lower budget kit but still a great truck to drive. I think people got confused as the Dyna Blaster kit was a load more expensive but people thought it was just a different body when it wasn’t. To add to the confusion the Dyna Blaster has the same body as the Stadium Thunder.

Its a bit weird looking for an offroad buggy thats for sure. Like even gokarts with somewhat of an offroad capability has a rollcage whille this is about as exposed as a F1 car which it certainly was inspired by design wise. With the modern dt03 chassis Tamiya could certainly do something as a homage too the striker & a few other of their cheaper and less popular Tamiya buggies, even just as a body set for the chassis i think they would get picked up.Even if it might look a bit more goofy having a body like this on a modern buggy chassis, if done right it would look pretty cool if they got a mix between a mid engined sandrail & F1 car from the late 70's or 80's on a chassis like the dt03.

U ruined it for me now I see the go cart u where taking about wow
@Mini-z19944 жыл бұрын
I mean it's an F1 inspired car more then anything while something like an offroad gokart has a rollcage, even back then during the 1980's like the honda odyssey fl 250 on google images, just mentioning how the design doesn't make sense safety wise even for the time if it was a full size vehicle.

Fundamental weakness.. One could have been fixed by having a side rear impact bars to deflect any thing hitting the rear wheels.. as without it the ball joint holding the rear trailing arms rips out of the chassis.. then the as you discovered from the first attempt to get one front impacts will break the part of the chassis where the steering arms come out . The other weakness is the front lower arms.. not as likely to break as those other two.. So way back in 1987/88 when i got mine chassis replacement or tamiya parts in general would take forever to get... and in 2019 its still hard/long times to get parts.. (down to the shit distribution company. ) and tamiya seems to be happy to stick with them..
