I agree a different version would be great. Personally I’d like to see a beetle body on it, kind of like a modern sand scorcher.

With many Tamiya models, the decal sets only really suit the box art colours but the great thing about the BBX is that it looks fantastic in almost any colour you choose.

Looks ace. Have that colour on a few of my RC's. I did the same on my BBX and did the wheels in a darker gun metal, and with the tyre writing. I just really like that it's a long travel buggy like back in the day when the courses were a lot rougher.

100% regarding the upgrades. Nothing really is needed. Slipper + gear diff and maybe an aluminum servo mount...but that is not needed. Love the colour! At first glance, it looks a bit strange; then after a little bit it makes a lot of sense visually! 👍👍

I am more into my crawlers and thinking of getting a kyosho Turbo Scorpion kit for my first 2wd buggie don't no nothing about brushless set ups what esc and brushless motor to go for????
@alfredyost79729 ай бұрын
My buddy and I both built this car. We both liked the build but we both did not like cutting out the body. Cutting out the body was difficult. We were both going to use brushless motors but found that the extra wires and the size of the ESC made it more difficult. We both went with a Tamiya brushed motors. They have less wires and the ESC is a bit smaller too. I used a Tamiya Super Stock motor. With that motor, I estimate my car was going about 35 mph. I did also use a taller pinion gear. My motor and ESC were not getting hot. It seems that using a taller pinion gear was not a problem. Thoughts?
@joedipietro25599 ай бұрын
No the taller pinion gear is causing the motor to overheat. The taller gearing puts more load on the motor. Ideally a pinion around 2 or 3 teeth less will reduce the motor load and allow the motor to reach its power band , it's rev range goes to 27500 rpm. So the motor needs to rev out high to make its power and a tall gearing doesn't allow this that's why it's overheating. If you put a smaller pinion on it won't overheat and you still get really good results with that motor. I've got 2 of them both in a Super Hot Shot and a Hot Shot both with 13 tooth pinion and for an old design car ( re release kits ) it still gets 28 mph or 46 km/h as I'm in Australia. Your BBX is a newer more modern design and you can avoid the overheating and still get really good results even with a smaller pinion gear. Enjoy that's a great car mate. I've wanted one myself but somehow I get stuck building the old rerelease classic kits although one day I'm going to just take the plunge and get my own BBX 👍👌
@alfredyost79729 ай бұрын
@@joedipietro2559 I would agree with you. However, you are comparing a 2wd car to a 4wd car. With 4wd cars you need to use a smaller pinion gear to get more torque. On 2wd cars you can use a taller pinion gear and get a little bit more speed. This also depends on where you are driving your car too. If you are driving on road, you can gear up. If you are off road it would be better to gear down. Thoughts?
@joedipietro25599 ай бұрын
Yeh I see your point. I should have taken that into consideration. Obvious now but yeah the driving surface makes a big difference to gearing and I hadn't actually thought about 2WD versus 4WD gearing. Well you make some good points here. I don't know what you could do to keep your ESC and motor running cooler except adding a cooling fan to both. Your receiver is probably a 2 channel plus auxiliary port so you could easily plug in a cooling fan to your auxiliary port and splice another fan onto that so you have 2 fans running on the 1 port. Or if you have a 4 channel receiver no problems. Possibly a aluminium heat sink on the motor and a fan on the ESC. Or run 1 fan off a AA cell battery to either your ESC or motor and plug the other fan into your receiver plus a heat sink on the motor. Those Super stock Tamiya RZ ,BZ and TZ motors look really nice a d have a cool sticker too but if a heat sink keeps it cool it's a wise move. They're actually a really good motor and perform great as a brushed motor without going to the trouble of trying to fit a brushless setup. Good luck Alfred I hope to see a video of your BBX running 👌👍
@alfredyost79729 ай бұрын
@@joedipietro2559 Yes, I have been surprised how good Tamiya brushed motor are. You are right, you could install a fan on either the motor or the ESC. I do not have any plans on doing so right now, because they are not getting hot.
