Sorry for the low quality voiceover... :(
In this video I will show how I trammed the BF20L mill before using it.
We start by squaring up the column in both X and Y.
In the next step I check and calibrate the tram of the head itself.
In deze video laat ik de uitlijning zien van de BF20L freesmachine.
Ik begin door de kolom te controleren in zowel de X als Y richting.
Daarna gaan we de freeskop zelf controleren van afstellen.

Thanks very much for this. I've never done this to my CNC - mainly because I didn't know how. It looks like I need to get out there and get it done. Thanks again!

The same tramming fixture I build two years ago to trimm my Optimum Bf16 CNC with closed loop steppers and it worked always properly .

I have the same tramming tool. I have to say, it is a necessary tool to own to keep your mill in proper order. Makes tramming no effort at all. Well made and a decent price. Great video!

Mission complete - you've guilted me into tramming mine. :) Also... I was 5 minutes into the video before I realized you were talking!! Voice audio is 1/4 what the rest is. Just an FYI.

Yes something went wrong with the audio channel, sorry for that. (the dutch one went oke, but guess that would not help you :) Anyhow... mission complete indeed... When it has been helpful to at least one.... good luck tramming +DrFiero !

Will the brass sheets not compress under the force? I got the same problem with the column. I try the shims first, if it does not work, I'll fly cut two pieces of flat stock fasten directly to the table with a big improvised fly cutter, eliminating the error that way by turning the created angled stock around 180°. But i hope the shims will do, as i am a bit hesitant with such a big mass that the fly cutter has. But all the import mills are off a bit, the cast iron settles and it's basically a must do on a milling machine, if you want to work to close tolerances in my opinion. I got harmonics and problems if i cut something with a big cutter. So much so that it feels like the cutter is jumping from time to time. That is a problem as the cutter may brake. My gut tells me it's because of the slight miss alignment.... So thanks for the hint with the foil. It's ordered already.

@@RoboCNCnl ;) i can't see how i would ruin my bed with either methods. but as i said, the same material you used is already in the mail. i've bought the brass assortment with around 4 differed thickness. will come in handy for other leveling work too.

Haven’t seen anyone tram this way before. Usually it’s off the table. Looks like it works presuming that square isn’t out of square. You can use the edge for the column and head just turn it either direction.

Thank you so much for the video as I will do the same when I buy my BF20. Are you happy with the quality of the mill?
@RoboCNCnl
@RoboCNCnl 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the support ! Yes I'm happy with the mill, although I do not use it daily.. So most aluminum stuff. If You would use it more, a belt conversion to get higher RPM would be nice

Hi! Thanks for all. Do you mean that are there any kind of belt conversion that increments rpm? I have one similar mill with belt drive brushless motor and I mill only aluminium

I find it interesting you went for tramming the head left to right versus the column. I suppose either would suffice. I prefer the head on the zero market and then the column dialed in. That way it’s easy to find home on the head if it ever needs to move.

On the top right you can see an ajusteble stop on the head/colomn and the adjustments are so tiny that it does not really matter I think... but what ever works works.. :)

The procedure of Matching the two indicators on the same magnet means they are aligned for the SAME spot on the table. But if the table is not perfectly flat (it happens there are +/- 2/100 mm), the difference will be incorporated into the tramming. Ideally, one should use one Indicator to measure the flatness of the two points of the table to receive the indicators's end and included in the control.

How about tramming the head to the column first in Y direction?
@RoboCNCnl
@RoboCNCnl 6 жыл бұрын
As far as I'm aware of this is not something you can adjust.. The head slides on the column with gibs only..
@user-bw4rr4kd9n
@user-bw4rr4kd9n 6 жыл бұрын
I guess only by shimming between the head and the part that slides on the collumn otheriwise the tramming with the base will not be trammed true even if you have a little error.

How true is your square?
@RoboCNCnl
@RoboCNCnl 3 жыл бұрын
What do you suggest?
@pieterveenders9793
@pieterveenders9793 7 ай бұрын
@@RoboCNCnl As good as possible, but at minimum less than 10 micrometers of deviation over 200-300 mm, preferrably under 5 micrometers deviation, and best would be 1-2 micrometers max deviation. So you would need a precision granite angle plate for that, that metal square isn't going to suffice.

Would love to see your setup at your home workshop like mine ;) Being true and square in a internet comment is of course easy.

I have never seen anyone ever clamp a precision square to a machine table. Especially over a hollow place like the T slot. Very bad idea.
