I think what happened is that it assumed everything above the horizon was in the background, and since the background was way blown out, it used HDR to darken it, and therefore darkened my face!

I shot a ton of B-roll this weekend on the iPhone 11 Pro during a mountain marathon. Blown away, looks way better than my GoPro and there’s something really natural looking about the stabilisation. Only issue I’ve noticed so far is that there seems to be some kind of auto HDR processing going on that sometimes makes areas of the video seem to flicker.

I use iphone all the time. Been vlogging however on the Samsung Galaxy s10plus for months even though I have a GH5 and a Sony A7III. Like you said I get less hassle. Wonder what the iPhone is like compared to the S10 Plus. Great video BTW. 👍🏼

Only thing I find useful Cody is the super steady on the S10plus. Wish Apple would have put that on the iPhone 11 Pro. BTW. My daily driver is my iphone I only use the Samsung as a camera.

I love how good the HDR is on the iPhone 11 Pro !!! The audio isn't as great as the Rode Mic but I definitely prefer the iPhones wide angle and quality to the GH5 for the vlog style shots ! I definitely believe this could replace your camera, the only modifications I would make other than a tripod is a wind jammer over the microphone just incase of wind.

Did you use a flat color profile while filming your talking portions? Because the background looks great, your face looks really dark and low contrast. Could have been the lighting too, not sure.

Nah - just regular. I think the HDR through my face was a part of the background (cause the back was so bright) and darkened it

Ya know I was really planning not to upgrade my phone this time around. I was really happy with my iPhone 7 Plus. I’ve taken some really nice on the fly shots when I can’t take my canon with me and video over these last couple of years. Especially of concerts. Concert photography and video would be my retirement gig. And then when I saw your early mornin story from the other day I was like “dammit that video looks great”... Then I started researching the specs a bit more and watching other reviews. Then I saw that there was a purple one and will power flew out the window. Expected arrival mid October. 🤦‍♀️ . . Back to my purpose at hand I was gonna ask you about this a while back 1:22 It was on a show on the Discovery channel “Mysteries of the abandoned”. It was ranked as the number one strangest ghost towns in the world. So yeah it’s fire that’s been burning underground for the last 50 years and still going.

I’m currently debating returning my Sony A6400 and using my iPhone 11 Pro Max as my KZbin camera. I’m fairly new to making videos but money is always an issue starting out. I know you mentioned you wouldn’t recommend selling a camera as it’s a money maker but for in studio talking head content I’m going back and forth on what to do.

Hmm? Question when shooting with iPhone using regular built in camera app to shoot slow mode video what would you recommend? 4K 60fps , 1080 60fps or the slow mode itself to help tell the story? So... will you ditch your cameras? If so, I have a Canon EOS M50 with a rode video mic pro plus and an 18-22 lens along with the telephoto lens for sale for the cost of this phone. I think my set up cost me about $1500 once it was done with the two lenses and $300 mic and joby.

Very cool, but man does that HDR software need some work. You could see fluctuations in the sky and the colors seemed wrong and not always the same. Still awesome how far technology has come.

It looked good, but in your narration shot you were oddly shaded like it was compensating or something. The bottom half of that shot looks good, but you look like there was a mask on it to adjust you and the blue sky. Is that the camera or something that you adjusted in post? It all looked great, but that just caught my eye. Great tool!

Nice stuff. Exiting times. Thanks for showcasing this! I would love to see how the front facing camera has improved too? (On a side note: I have never used the bell-icon-clicking on a subscription before, but your video about “YouTubing wrong” inspired me to try it, so this video came very fresh to me. So fresh in fact that it seemed to still be under processing by KZbin. A friend of mine told me that it takes a little while for KZbin to make a hi-def version of a video ready, so he recommended to set it to private for awhile and make it public once the processing is done. That way early viewers will also get the best quality possible. Sorry for the rant, just wanted to share that idea :) )
