Thanks for all the comments guys. This was my 6th flight with that plane and as of yet I have not played around and slowed it down to a crawl. I am assured by the builder it will go very slow but flying at Joe Nall is definetly not the place to experiment and have your plane fall out of the sky. The plane does seem to have a bit of a rock to it and I am working on figuring that out. Any help would be welcomed. Once I get comfortable with the plane, I hope to indeed slow it right down, but it is fairly heavy so we will see what happens. And I will install a pilot.

Hi Peter, very nice build of very ughly plane. Can I ask you about material thickness you use and how much workhourk you spend on it? Flies very well. After few hours at the sky you can use flaps and fly at much highet AOA to slow it and show STOL capability of this model. nice work.

I hope it never gets too slow on you. Any updates? RC you can't normally judge airspeed of course. Hard enough to judge ground speed. Downwind can nail you. I havn't been active for years but maybe again sometime. I thought about installing an airspeed tube with telemetry call out speed with minimum warning. I think about weird projects like that. Things like that are sorta my personalization of my interest in the hobby.

Looks just right but can tell that it's HEAVY,, the take off and landing roll were far longer than scale from the full size, would love to know how the weight and wing loading compares to the scale of the full size

Yeah, I guess the "Slats" work, but he didnt drop the "flaps"....soo, it was kinda hot, plus, I can imagine the wing loading was kinda up there too....

my first thought too. idk the area maybe 30 lbs is a bit heavy for that size. Usually foil covered balsa is lighter. I keep wondering if anyone provides plans. I doubt anyone makes kits or and Arf. Maybe 1/4 scale. I guess you could work from scale drawings. Needs a pilot in there lol. Now there's the CH750 Super Duty, can carry heavier engine, slightly bigger flying tail. I think the wings are just a bit longer idk if same chord, probably. Probably my favorite light airframe. Top contender for 'most safe and stable light airframe' in my book. Great bushplane IMO though others are more popular I guess. I don't think nose gear is inferior to tailwheel config, when its made strong with big tire. I think it's better.

For those commenting about the lack of STOL capability in the model, keep in mind the difference in the Reynolds Numbers between this and the full size aircraft. A smaller wing needs to fly at a RELATIVELY faster speed (speed vs chord) to produce an equivalent effective lift. Then there is the trick of perspective. If you ever watch a 747 in flight and wonder how it stays airborne because it LOOKS like it is flying so SLOW. A model has the opposite problem. Models appear to fly faster because they cover many more times their length per second, even if the actual speed may be slower.

I'm really liking the aluminum aircraft and the takeoff rollout was very true to real aircraft. Great landing. Sharp looking aircraft.I would like to see some photos and videos if he has any, on making this beautiful airplane. Outstanding workmanship and piloting skills..

Tony Rosa I think to scale the takeoff run was much longer than what this plane is capable of. My thinking is this was maybe a first flight? And the pilot wasn’t pushing it close to stall?

I fly my Zenith 750 STOL and find it very light on the controls and it takes a while to adapt to it’s quick reaction. It took a while to reduce my over controlling inputs. With more flying you will likely find it smoothing out. Beautiful aircraft, my congratulations from one builder to another. N750SV.

Its funny that its modeled after STOL, when made to scale out of metal its take-off distance is among the worst in that event. I wonder if a all metal scale version of a modern fighter jet would perform....Could it even achieve positive lift with any scale turbine...
@johnfinch81735 жыл бұрын
A few years ago I built a mm perfect 42/50 850 Kv electric powered Zenair CH 701 1/5 th scale as a tribute to Scott Ehnie's turboprop CH 701. The model shown in the video is not to scale! The engine cowling is too long. The stabiliser does not have the inverted airfoil but a semi symmetrical profile and the door opening is not correct. The leading edge slats seem to be oversized and not fitted/positioned correctly as per original design and not to forget that the windscreen has too much rake. You get scale and semi-scale and I'm sorry to say the model featured is semi-scale. A nice effort but does not give me the wow factor. A pity I cannot post pictures of my Zenair CH 701 here.

some info. at :34, it is not clear whether the model builder understood just how weird this airframe is. for example, see the ABSURD profile of the the horizontal stab at full scale. links. someone could not bring themselves to 'copy' it. see links. the plane is well-suited to landing and taking off, only. googletranslate www.zenithair.com/stolch750/750-photos1.html note small tail feathers. the total (covered) area of the tail boom, contributing to Excess mass in the tail boom. www.zenithair.co/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/750-3v-sm.gif

Great plane BUT: STOL it's not. Even with that extra lift slats, didn't see any flaps, and the aluminum wrap, took that plane way to long to get off the ground. I suspect the aluminum wrap is the culprit and lack of flaps.
