Thanks a bunch for you support! I want to say we try ignore all the negative comments, but I swear, one day I will type in few comments Roger makes in return....its similar to when Jimmy Carr is calling out a heckler :) LOL We have been in business for over 15 years and I should admit that probably 99% of all folks out there are pretty cool...and we can totally live with the rest 1%. I like these guys, no problem for me but... when you put yourself out there doing vid3os or whatever for the consumption of general public at large you open yourself up to criticism, and unfortunately it seems like as time goes on we find the % of losers with no manners or poor manners on purpose grows. Likewise we are free to berate them. On a side note I had to stop watching their videos with my kids, they are getting smart enough to catch and understand the sexual innuendos. Again, free speech so I’m ok with that...unless you want to stop that would work too!

Kids shouldn`t be online, the internet is a terrible place. And when they understand innuendo`s, they`re old enough to watch it, you should be open about that stuff and not have it be secret or forbidden, it will save them a lot of frustration and lying as time goes by ;) Same goes for cursing, if it`s forbidden and demonized, it will be attractive and seducing, like with smoking etc.. Unless you want them to keep everything from you as they grow up lol.. just sayin`.. Some uncomfortable conversations are worth having :)

DEFINITE NEW SUBSCRIBER HERE!!! I bought a Rustler VXL & Bandit XL-5 in 2018. My son & I drove both of them maybe 1 month(too much power for his age). Been in storage since! Last month, I found em, pulled em both out, and me being a COMPLETE NOVICE, I took both apart as much as I could and detailed/cleaned them up! After 2nd battery run, the Rustler snapped the pin on the top shaft. Having zero knowledge about RC's I took to local hobby shop & watched them fix it for me. Had I found this video/channel a week ago...I'm sure I could have done it! Great camera visual & explanation here! I'll be stopping back by for more How To's... Thanks guys😎💪

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I just purchased an entire bearing kit for my rustler. I did the tires this yesterday. I have yet to do the transmission bearings. This was extremely helpful. I may also just go ahead & replace the diff with the sealed version while I'm at it, don't want to have to open it again lol. This ia the part of my traxxas that scares me a tad 😄 I'm ok playing with the pinion & spur, that's cake..... But those loads of tiny pins inside that box, well.... I call that box 'Pandora' 😂

Roger, Adam, thank you. I've been lookin for a good video on how to maintain the diff on my slash for a WEEK. This is by far the best I've seen with in depth details shown instead of cut out. If y'all happen to see this please let me know if you've any maintenance vids on the 4x4 vxl Slash specifically, as I have both the 2wd and 4x4 and the 4x4 is certainly a bit more intimidating!

I did Hot-racing sealed diff with Robinson idler with RPM case. No problem. Works great. One huge benefit of RPM case is the thick aluminum engine plate vs relying on plastic case. Especially if running lots of power. I also used the Robinson slipper. Seems to be bulletproof so far...

I appreciate the info with the upgraded parts and even the cleaner. A few things though...I notice no blue loctite when screwing metal to metal. Also, I did not see any grease inside the gearbox, only inside the hot-racing diff??? Lastly, I did not find carbon fiber pads for the rustler from hot-racing. Are you using a version meant for a different vehicle? thanks!

See above for my opinion on grease. the diff uses silicone oil not grease. the oil is there to provide resistance not lubrication. You are correct about the Loc-tite. I meant to use it but completely forgot. I'm not sure how Hot Racing lists the carbon pads. TRX15GS is the part number. They refer to them as "graphite" pads. they work very well.

Hey Guys. I want you to know that I I was gifted in 1992 and afterwards. It's actually quite a long story and I would like to send this to you to let you know I had come across your videos fixing tires on a Traxxas a vehicle with another video showing how to put the gear on to the motor and don't let it slip too much because it would overheat. I have learned quite a bit from the man with the red hair. About my gift? I've never met either one of you men but it's not too hard or difficult for me to pick up that the man with red hair is very knowledgable in these vehicles. No questions asked. I have an Emacs brushless truck and I have light pole three batteries running it. The plastic gears I have burnt most likely in around 20 of them because I am learning on my own and now that I know how to subscribe which I have subscribed to your channel and I know how to get to your videos, I would like to know if there's a way that I am supposed to tighten my tires on the back of my truck from wiggle in a little bit.? I have Botton many many many and too many parts from Traxxas. I would like to know if you tricks or tips as you will call them. I hope you can respond to me soon I'm going to be looking for more videos to come from you and ur little friend u have there. Thanks for your time and have a blessed day. Jason.

Hey guys. Love this vid. Very thorough. You mention the 1 flaw in the traxxas case is the built in a-arm mounts. I agree this is a fault, although the rpm 3 piece with 4 small nuts is tought to tighten without removing a bunch of stuff. I feel the main fault of the traxxas is actually the fact that it has to be sealed with a piece of tape. Whats up with that? Look forward to watching more videos of yours. I was surprised how clean the bearings you removed are for a rustler that was driven hard. Mine always seems to get gross. I have to change the bearings everytime i do anything. I buy them by the 100 lot. Be excellent to each other.

I bought (FLM) FastLane Machine's Aluminum Transmission Case and (FLM) FastLane Machine's Aluminum Differential and have been running both for 3 years without a problem. I added a Castle Creations' 1406 Sidewinder 3 4600Kv Motor/ESC Combo. Set the gearing at 21T Pinion gear and 76T Spur gear. Using a 3-Cell LiPO, this set-up drives my 2WD Slash at 50MPH on 2.8 inch JConcepts Rulux Wheels with JConcepts G-Loc Tires (G-Locs aren't supposed to balloon - My set-up proves that wrong, they do balloon!) (NOTE: The motor will need a motor heat sink for 85+ degree day )

This is just experience from working on systems with bearing on F16 jets but using the shaft to install bearings works well and doesn't require impact tools or a press to force a bearing's installation potentially damaging it. It will just slip in place.

I just put wheel axle ball bearings on 1 yr old Rustler (60 2s lipo runs on dirt&grass) to replace the 8 bronze bushings. Steering was sloppy, now it's great! But when I was setting motor pinion mesh, I noticed a bit of radial play in the top shaft that the spur and slipper run on. Is that shaft that the slipper clutch is on in bearings or bushings from factory? I have 2 more 5x11x4 ballbearings, but I hate to break into the xmission mid season if this play is normal.

@Rcstreetshop
@Rcstreetshop 5 жыл бұрын
There are a number of reasons. Generally speaking you have too much grip. Adjust your slipper clutch so that it gives a little bit under heavy acceleration. OR adjust the way you apply throttle. You may also change gearing to slow down spool time which basically changes acceleration timing. Or try different tires (with less grip).

i have a rustler too (on 3s lipo), theres nothing efficient you can do about your front wheels getting off the ground. But you can buy a wheelie bar which prevents your car from flipping over backwards. Its just like 15$

I loved the proline 2wd trans... I ran mine for 3 years before sheering off the diff output. I bought diff outputs and fixed it but now I see their discontinued so eventually I will have to do this. Its sad because the arm holders are separate and cheap on the proline and so were internal parts so I could just buy arm holders instead of doing the whole trans thing over and over. And it makes 1/3 of the noise.. plus you can tell a speed and power difference instantly, along with the pulling to one side it had b4 being gone. I with there was more options.

I think Traxxas may have put thicker grease in the newer 2WD transmissions. My Bandit, Slash and Rustler (all three are just under a year old) all seem to have very smooth yet somewhat stiff diff action like my Rustler 4x4 and Slash 4x4 VXL's.

@@Rcstreetshop They've been like that since new. Plus I have serviced the entire gear box on all of my cars. It was just something I observed. I remember when the Traxxas 2WD platforms were fairly new in the late 90's. I remember the diff action being looser on those older models.

Better Video than I can make lol haters are gonna hate. I actually did this rebuild with the hot racing case. some things that I did not see you mention is that if you get the replacement dif gears there is also a very small washer that goes between the drive shafts that I am thinking got missed. also before you screw the diff back together let the dif fluid settle if you have an air bubble it can cause parts to break because of torque. Also Traxxas does not seem to sell Idler shafts by themselves they only come with the replacement cases (Bogus!!!!!) If you have to put the top gear on the shaft use a 10mm deep socket to push the top gear onto the shaft.

Like your video guys. Just wondering, it looked like there was no lube put on the gears when you reassembled, but metal on metal would seems to want some form of lube, especially if the diff grease is staying inside the diff.
@Rcstreetshop
@Rcstreetshop 4 жыл бұрын
For what we use it for, we do not use lube...believe it or not but lube will slow it down. RC gears do not last as long as gears in real cars, so sometimes you may get away without using lubrication.

I bought a used car that has a Hot Racing diff in it (?) don't know unless I take it apart. The shaft that drives the slipper clutch is a double D with no hole in it for a drive pin. Could this be a stock part or do you think it's aftermarket.

Enjoyed the vid... but wondering why you didn't put any white lithium grease on the sealed diff, idler, and top shaft gear teeth? Is it not needed anymore? I always apply it when I do maintenance on my trans. Thanks.
@Rcstreetshop

Lithium grease is for (ideally) plastic to plastic. Since Roger has metal gears he should be using a spacial grease for metal gears or don't use it at all.

I wonder if I should go with a hot racing sealed differential or just lock the differential in my transmission?
@Rcstreetshop
@Rcstreetshop 5 жыл бұрын
Before you lock it, try high viscosity 30-50K oil (it does pretty much the same but a bit differently)
@dustinshort6207
@dustinshort6207 5 жыл бұрын
Or rip a piece of one of those silicone earplugs and stuff it into the diff. It's the equivalent of a slipper clutch in your differential, it is almost locked up, but will slip instead of something breaking.
@Rcstreetshop
@Rcstreetshop 5 жыл бұрын
@@dustinshort6207 Not quite, anything but silicone oil in the differential will mechanically lock it, while you suppose merely limit the slip.

Will the Hot Racing hardened steel idler gear work in a RPM hybrid gearbox when also using the Hot Racing sealed planetary differential or would I still need to stick with the stock Traxxas VXL steel idler gear? As I have a rustler Vxl 2wd with the RPM hybrid gearbox (I got the truck used for free and it has other mods.. RPM carriers on all corners, aluminum shock caps on stock shocks, aluminum rear shock tower, STRC front brace, RPM front bulkhead, stock tires and wheels, stock gearing, duct tape reinforced body, updated suspension pins, and RPM caster blocks…

Instead of that grease u used, is there a substitute that u can suggest that i can get in an automotive shop? also could i uae OIL instead of a grease?
@Rcstreetshop
@Rcstreetshop 6 жыл бұрын
You can totally get any lubricant (just make sure that it is not petrol based) in auto shop. That should do on parts where lubrication (less friction) is needed. On the diff however you need to provide some additional restriction by the means of oil to "lock" diff at higher RPMs. Grease won't do it, so we use oils with different viscosity.

Thinking about doing this. I have an rpm case though. I just destroyed all the gears. The differential got some broken teeth into it and messed it up and the intermediate has under 10 teeth as well as the other. I guess that’s what happens with a small spur and 3s lipo when it goes in 2 wheels and your slipper isn’t properly adjusted. Gonna be a fun experience lmao

Check your throttle trimmer position (or better re-calibrate your throttle) and check motor (if it jerks under the load when you apply a little bit of gas, then it is a good indication that it might be faulty).

Hi guys, what do you think is better to obtain a straight acceleration; the sealed differential you use in this video or the differential locker to make it posi?

It is never a good idea to lock differential, if you want to have straight acceleration; tire grip is uneven and nothing besides differential would address this.
