I didn't have the heart to mention the honing. As it's getting on and not going to be raced I would run it up with the clearance you have. We ran 4 star unleaded back then which should have been less likely to detonate. I've holed pistons and seized 2 strokes from squeezing too much out of them. At high rpm inertia does overcome compression along with heat and expansion. Detonation has a sound that you remember after destroying a motor. Hope it all goes well. I'm replacing a cam sensor on the back of a Nissan engine in the snow today so I'm glad it's not too hot here.

Cheers Theo - yep will try and squeeze a little more out of the second bike and add some Jim Lomas pipes to that one - it’s reassuring to know that the squish figures aren’t abnormal for stock I was not expecting that - all these tips will help me do a better job so I’m very grateful for the help 👍

Ps I cut the compression test part from this episode - that had me really questioning what I’d done wrong however I’ve ordered a different tester as mine may well not be the correct type- also before I forget whilst I whinge about the heat I’d rather be too hot then too cold (my fingers hurt just thinking about it yuk lol )

It's fair to expect to need a tester with a Schrader valve to get an accurate reading. I don't know enough about anything so it's always great to get to find out more. At least the snow turned to sleet while I cut myself to shreds. It's a lot easier the second time. Shouldn't have bothered with the £9.50 Amazon part but I had to know with Nissan wanting £90 for the same thing. I always thought the removable frame side was a good idea, they really don't make anything like they used to. I get to see clocks that have ticked 18k times an hour for 150 years that have little signs of wear if they've been properly serviced. That usually isn't the case.
