TheSarsaGag cranking the snare side all the way will choke it out. Finger tight + 1.5 or 2 full turns is plenty.

It also depends on size, too. My snare is a DW Black Nickel over brass which is a 14 x 6.5” so the lugs are super long, which requires up to 3 to 4 turns. So my suggestion would be the Benny Greb challenge. The Benny Greb challenge would be when you tune your snare with a new head exactly to where you want it, record the sound then take it off, put them back on, and see if you get the same sound out of it. This’ll help your tuning skills! (Also btw, it took me a while to learn how to tune so don’t worry if you don’t understand for a while 😉)

That Dynasonic sound! Possibly my favorite snare next to a Supraphonic or a Black Beauty. Interesting, as it is a chrome-over-brass shell. And do NOT ruin that drum by aging it or otherwise screwing around with it!!! Send it/sell it to ME so that I can give her the TLC she so richly deserves.

I don't think sandblasting would work. Most chrome shells are electroplated. I tried to sand an old ludwig chrome plated steel shell somebody gave me. I just manage to scratch the drum to death, and raise my blood pressure. Lol

Pro tip: if you can't find any snare straps lying around, use a roll of ribbon you can get at a craft store. Simply just find the width of a strap and cut the length desired. Stop wasting money on snare straps (even if they are a dime dozen) and start making your own straps. Got the idea from Tama.

Dynasonics have very shallow snare beds - on mine that’s missing the frame I use a Rhythm Tech active snare system - I’d look into one for sure as it beats anything else on this particular drum.
@CoachNation
@CoachNation 5 жыл бұрын
Yes. Maybe deepening the snare bed would improve the sound further - Dynas have a very tiny snare bed to make the frame system work best.

One idea for making it look differently would be brushing. Some manufacturers brush their hardware, but you could easily do this to this chromed snare shell, as well. Could be worth a try? Other than that: This thing sounds awesome!

Very cool mate. She sounds nice too. If you want an aged look on it , take her apart and pour acid all over the shell. Leave it outside for a week or two. Rain helps too . It will go rusty very quick and will look great. Clear coat or not it's up to you. Great vid 👍

Try and peel the chrome off the shell or the hoops. I’m not sure how you do that on purpose but it’s happened to me by accident on an old snare I used to have. Those things are definitely not chrome colored all the way through, it can in theory be separated. That ought to give you the look.

This might not be common knowledge, but the Dynasonic is a legendary drum. It's never had the clout of the Black Beauty but it is very similar to a Black Beauty Super Sensitive but sounds even better IMO and is way more hard to find. The drum is supposed to utilize a unique snare bridge that puts tension on the wires independently from the strainer. I have DW's copy, the True Sonic. It's amazing. The curve ball about the shell is that it has no snare bed. I've read in forums that because of this, it sounds like crap without the snare bridge. You've demonstrated otherwise here. Sounds really good. So yeah. You've messed with and uglied up an amazing legendary drum. Well done. Haha If I'm boring you with info you already know, sue me. 😁

Cool build. The snare sounds really good considering the crack in the shell and random selection of cheap parts. As far as snare straps, I've been using grosgrain ribbon for some of my projects. It's cheap and a spool will last you a few years. Plus it never slips and you can get it in different colors.

I’ve always used muriatic acid vapor to “krustify” metal. You can suspend it over the acid and cover in a bag. Check every 2-4 hours without uncovering to see the progress. The make a few products you brush on and cover overnight but I think that’s more costly.

good work. if you still have this snare I'd suggest looking into getting a Rogers snare bridge for it. They started making reproductions for $60 that has the bridge and snares on it. I think that's part of what makes this snare so great.
