I felt like he was implying that in general we humans have conditioned ourselves into group mentality so much that we now limit ourselves to common beliefs of our capabilities. The monkey experiment sounded like a study on a social experiment to make all the monkeys go against what they knew better which was to eat the banana but because after conditioning via the cold water it was decided to go against the instinctual urge to eat the banana which led to the group of monkeys forgetting what they know was possible
