I watched the sequence at 26:15-26:20 again. Mark could have salvaged it, but it is a very very small margin of error. If he kept the horn, it would have got stolen by the ghost and he still has a small time before the shell explodes. He should have dropped the bomb then to slow the others down, even just by a little. But Mark uses items poorly. He should have used up both the horn and the bomb. But this is speaking from hindsight
