I'm a massive Kate Bush fan, and of course her duet with Gabriel on "Don't Give Up" is a masterpiece. But... When I heard Paula Cole sing that song with Gabriel instead of Bush, my whole world turned upside down. That performance has become _the_ "original" for me, and the album version with Bush is just the cover. The way Cole sings it, it's like that song was written just for her to deliver to us. You've _got_ to check it out, if you haven't already (someone else already posted the link in a different comment here).

I saw Peter Gabriel on this tour in 1993, the last show in the US in Orlando. It was the most uplifting and spiritual show I had ever seen, or have seen since. Interesting note, that the day before some of PG's tour staff were involved in an accident coming back from a day trip. Before the show PG came on stage to thank those that stopped to help as well as the first responders, and had them at the sound board area on the side stage.

Absolutely NO rock/pop artist reaches the excellence and perfection of Peter Gabriel. He masters every single detail, from lyrics to melody, from harmony to instrumentation, from visuals to singing, from choosing musicians to making arrangements. He is a genius. Nothing and no one is comparable to what he does in his live performances. This tour is a masterpiece. And when we thought that was impossible to make something greater than this one, he delivered "Secret World" tour, that is even greater in all details. This era is gone...

I had the pleasure of seeing this tour in the US. It was one of the best concerts I've ever seen, and I've seen Pink Floyd twice. No concussion mortars, no lasers, just dancing and singing and exceptional creativity on display. IIRC, at one end of the venue was the round stage, with a square one at the other end, and a runway between them. At one point the round stage was empty, and a British call box rises up out of the stage. Peter emerges from it, and slowly walks down the runway to the other end. He's trailing something behind him, which turns out to be a rubber band-like tether, which then drags him slowly back to the call box ~ backwards. Just a spectacularly creative night. Excellent choice for a reaction.

Gabriel knows how to add a special touch of theatre to his performances. I still recall being somewhat awestruck at the closing of his ‘Secret World’ performance in 1993 at the skydome in Toronto. As the final song drew to a close the entire band disappeared into a suitcase in the middle of the stage. Peter Gabriel concerts have a habit of making you as a listener, strangely moved.

I was fortunate to see this tour in Miami, FL three weeks before I gave birth to my son. At the show I saw, In Your Eyes was the first encore. The show closer was Biko, which, because of my actions, got me in a little trouble with security. One of the things that strikes me about this performance is the universality of it evidenced in the mirroring of movement. Doug - Let me express my happiness in finding your channel. Your choice of songs/pieces is sublime. In Your Eyes, Inca Roads and Shine On, You Crazy Diamond? My god, man, you're being magnetized to, and uncovering the musicality behind, one masterpiece after another. I first saw your real time reaction to Inca Roads, which was thrilling. I was friends with Frank Zappa since I was 13 years old, jammed with him at 16, and saw the work behind the pieces of his you've illuminated. Hearing them again, through your ears, made me realize how unbelievably fortunate I was to get to know the guy and hear this music shortly after its inception. I'm also still friends with Peter, who I met when I was Lou Reed's guitarist on the Amnesty International tour in the 80s. We've stayed in touch and I've played his music a bunch. Big props to you for the beautifully curated music education. The fact that you grasp and follow the chordal/harmonic movement & time feel changes is endlessly entertaining, as Frank would say. Hope to meet you in real life one of these days, but thank you for this inspiring work you're doing. Your reactions bring me back to the moment I first heard this stuff. A priceless gift.

I was lucky enough to be at one of the Earls Court concerts, it is still THE best and most memorable concert I have ever been to, and I have been to a awful lot of concerts. Paula Cole was just unbelievable and I’m surprised she has only had one hit of her own. Sinead O’Connor came on stage to sing Blood of Eden with Peter, but from my position (standing near the central stage) it seemed she sang the whole song with her back to the audience. I don’t think she was at the concert that was recorded for the DVD - which you must definitely get!

The first time I saw this video, I got chills. Still get them every time I watch it. I'm a musician too, and I would give anything to be part of that ensemble, to dance and celebrate with my fellow musicians while moving the entire stadium. It is indeed a celebration of music and humanity - I'm so glad they captured it.

Btw, the African singer, Yousso N'dor, is a world music legend. I think his obligatory, if you will, at the end, makes the song. Think about the studio version where he comes crashing into the outro of the piece and suddenly the world explodes. Also, bass player is Tony Levin, a decades-long legend of the British rock scene.
