Great video! So green card holders planning to travel just 2-3 months to visit relatives, still need to apply for re-entry via for I-131?

Not needed. You’d need it if your trips lasts longer than 6 months. You can apply if you want just in case you get stuck longer, but it is not required. We do recommend though always carrying with you a set of documents showing that you reside in the US, including copy of your latest tax return, lease, property ownership documents, car registration, bank statement, credit cards etc. Basically, anything you can to show that despite your lengthy or frequent trips you still reside in the US. @@ImmigrationUS Thank you for the quick response! It’s amazing the government does NOT make this clear! All this time I was under the impression when leaving the states, even to Mexico or Canada, travel documents like re-entry permits including passports are needed to come back in. I have an in-law with a green card (20+ years here), that wants to go back to southeast asia to visit family. She was misinformed thinking she needed a passport. I did some research and found out about re-entry permits, but since USCIS/State Dept sites are not clear I searched YT. Thanks again!

@@ImmigrationUS Another question - I do not have a US passport. I will go to Thailand first then Laos. I go through international airports, what will I give them so they can stamp entry if no passport? Can I give them my green card and state driver’s license? How does that work..?

​@@Unplugged704 I'm in exactly the same situation. Mom wishes to visit family, but is unable to get a passport without citizenship, and is unable to gain citizenship due to poor English.

As a DV winner, if I come to the US for a short period of time (1 month), file for a re-entry permit immediately upon my arrival (not sure if it's possible without a green card being issued), should I have to wait for the biometric appointment? What if I need to leave after 1 month and miss my biometric appointment? Is there any solution to that?
