This may be the closest to perfection any song has ever come. The meaning of the lyrics, the bassline, the soul in Palmer's voice, the tempo, just everything. This is the 'mic-drop' of songs. That's it folks, we're done. Pack it up. Everybody go home, we've reached the goal.

One of Palmer's best songs, great lyrics and singing. And of course the bassline is phenomenal. The bass on my car stereo is always cranked WAY up!
@ckrein41410 жыл бұрын
newshounded, Love your post. You most likely know it's the legendary Bob Babbitt on bass. Letter to the editor of Bass Player mag a few yrs ago cited this bass line as an example of bass playing that stood out compared to most others "Huge case in point: Bob Babbitt’s beautifully melodic lines made Robert Palmer’s original version of “ Every Kinda People” great, while a later remix with a sparse anemic bass line lost all of the original’s charm, energy and soul." I can't pass up the chance to brag on my bro Bob! Nuf said.
@newshounded10 жыл бұрын
Chuck Kreinar Chuck, I'm not a musician but I can spot a good bass player. I think a bass player shoud be more than someone who merely "keeps the beat". A great bass player like Babbitt can propel a song to greater heights while at the same time remaining somewhat innocuous. I have to say my favorite bass player is John Entwistle from the Who, that man almost stold the show on every song he played on with the Who! :-0

Thanks to those who recognized Bob Babbitt's awesome bass playing on this tune. On this day in 1978 {May 13th} Robert Palmer performed "Every Kinda People" on the ABC-TV program 'American Bandstand'... At the time the song was at #35 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; six weeks later on June 18th, 1978 it would peak at #16 {for 2 weeks} and it spent 18 weeks on the Top 100... It made the Top 10 on the French National Singles chart, where it peaked at #6… Between 1977 and 1991 he had eighteen Top 100 records; five made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "Addicted to Love" for one week on April 27th, 1986... He just missed having three #1 records when "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On" and "Simply Irresistible" both peaked at #2 on the Top 100... Sadly, Robert Allen Palmer passed away on September 26th, 2003 at the young age of 54... May he R.I.P.

He sang songs old and new, and I was so thrilled to see this song done live. He came out in a 3 piece gray silk suit with a thin pink tie. I swear he didn't break a sweat all night. You all should know......the guy who wrote this (Andy Fraser) joined Free at 15, played incredible bass for them and inspired and substantially co-wrote 'All Right Now' for that band, before forming other bands and making songwriting his main trade, penning songs covered by the likes of Joe Cocker, Chaka Khan, Ted Nugent, Paul Carrack, and Rod Stewart. All other songs apart, just imagine being the creator of 'All Right Now' AND 'Every Kinda People'....Whew !!! Johnathan Crist Sad time acoss the entire US. Mass shooting #307 for 2017 was in a small Texas church leaving 26 dead and lives shattered forever by their deaths. And our fricken society does nothing. We blame the Congress because they do nothing but bow to special interest groups, loudest among the NRA that preserves our right to own guns while our right to live free has been greatly reduced. Anyone who says you are free to go to a fast food restaurant, school from elementary to university, shopping mall, movie theater, post office, church... is a liar. OK, maybe you are free to go but you cannot plan on being able to come home the way you went. Maybe you come home in a body bag, maybe with a few holes punched through your skin. Citizens walk around with sorrowful feelings but demand no changes, no improvements and the zealots for guns count their blessings as they buy more weapons. I live in a middle class neighborhood surrounded by national forest. I could hear someone practicing with a bump stock for days after the Las Vegas shooting. I could tell their progress of getting it to shoot more rapidly over several days and then the practice stopped for whatever reason. It sounded more like a machine gun when they stopped practicing. Guess they are ready to shoot some animal... or person or people. (You are really a hunter when you discharge a round of ammo at some defensive animal. ) Thanks to the Polk Co. sheriff Grady Judd in Florida who showed how bump stocks work in a TV expose. I wouldn't have known what they sounded like otherwise. No accountablity exists for gun violence in the US from anyone. The crime is commited and the shooter is either dead along with the couple or dozens who have died. They may go to jail or an institution for the insane but that is not accountablity. It is not equal to the loss.
