As a brown woman....some of us are sick of being treated like we're very special and fragile and words will hurt us. Racism and sexism exists for sure, and need to be talked about. But sometimes not everyone who disagrees with me is racist or sexist. The entire world isn't out to hurt people like me.

Up until a few months ago I lived what you could say the "PC life" & I was so miserable while living that way. Even if you're amongst it, they still tear you down. It's just ridiculous. I feel as if humanity is wanting to do something good so we can try & be harmonious with each other, but it failed & they just pick at the little things very aggressively. For example for xmas I got given benefit bling brow. They are swarovski crystals you can put on your face to do different and creative things with your makeup. I posted in a facebook group with a photo of some of the crystals along my brow bone so it was like a highlight & I had a few comments saying that I was culturally appropriating & from just having 6 crystals on my face, I was oppressing & disrespecting a culture. It was not a life to live, I felt like I couldn't say and do anything because someone would get offended. Like you said, basically living your life for others. That's a sad life & once I realised that, I decided to do things that just make me happy. As long as I'm not causing physical harm to anyone, there's nothing wrong with that. You gotta live your life for yourself. jokideo.com/trying-to-make-a-joke-in-2015/

Everyone...literally everyone outside the SJW echo chamber is called racist, sexist, homophobic, Islamophobic and xenophobic. These are no longer insults: They're complements. These words have been so misused that their meaning is no longer relevant. Accusing is merely a sign of disagreement, not persecution of the actual contextual value of the words themselves. If a social justice warrior calls you any of these, they are a signal of your reasoning capabilities.

The big problem here is that people aren't quite understanding how systems of discrimination work. You're not allowed to speak out on racism because you're white, and the matter of fact is that us white people will never understand how racism is like and pretending like we do can lead to very bad consequences. The solution to not discriminating against people of color isn't for white people to talk over them -- because the issue has always been that nobody has listened to them and continue to shut them up. The same idea applies to all forms of bigotry. They're so ingrained in our culture that sometimes we say things we don't even realize are harmful, and getting mad when other people find the bravery to speak up against it is definitely not a good response. You cannot say you respect that person when you won't listen to their feelings -- and I'm using "you" in a general sense, not Repzion in particular. I have a LOT of diagnosed anxiety disorders, and it's really not that hard to be PC and it doesn't really cause anxiety for me. I live my life under the golden rule, and so for me, who has very easily triggered anxiety disorders, I always make sure that I don't cause the same feelings in other people. Not saying the n-word then, for example, is not an issue at all, because I know the word has a long history of being related to murder and rape caused by racism, and it's really not going to take away from my life from refusing to use that ONE word. There's a stunning lack of empathy in many people who declare themselves anti-PC. They're usually the ones sitting around making fun of other people, and even though there are a lot of people I can agree are rather odd and strange, I don't make fun of them because 1) they're not affecting my life at all and 2) it's just damn rude. Really, I don't understand why we defend our right to be insensitive. Just leave them alone. If they're not hurting you, then why do we have to act so malicious? I'm perfectly aware that there are people who are over-sensitive and lash out angrily over "PC" matters, but they are just as wrong as people who lash back and make fun of them. And sometimes, like Franchesca, people will speak VERY respectfully over a matter such as this, and people go and say terrible things to her. She's spoken out on other sites about how she's been harassed by many people who are blatantly racist and sexist and use slurs and threats against her. I'm not going to defend those people any more than I'm going to defend "PC" people everyone seems to hate so much, because any sort of behavior like that is repulsive. Also, regarding trigger warnings: Repzion, as someone with an anxiety, I would think you'd be the person to understand the importance of trigger warnings. I have three legitimately diagnosed phobias that I have gone to therapy and taken medicine for and I NEED trigger warnings so I won't have an anxiety attack. I rarely ask for them because the backlash is something I'm very afraid of, and acting like trigger warnings prohibit your ability to talk when it's literally just a warning for anyone who might be severely affected by that topic is also insensitive. With all that being said, I will say this: I am very capable of enjoying politically incorrect things (my icon is from Monty Python's Flying Circus ffs), but the issue is that if I don't know you, I don't know if you really believe in the things you're saying -- for example, if you make a sexist joke and you're my friend, I probably know you are only just joking and being satirical, but if you make a sexist joke and I don't know you, I really don't know if that's how you actually feel about women, and that brings up a dilemma because I don't want to surround myself with people who actually think it's acceptable to harm women, much like you said you don't respect people who hurt others. I think you've made some excellent videos in the past and while this is definitely not the first disagreement I've ever had with things you've said, I do appreciate many of your points of views.
@thereisapricetoeverything43777 жыл бұрын
PC may not always be hard but two points. Firstly, It is the beginning of censorship and banning of words, how long until things that give YOU anxiety bugs enough people to justify people wanting to ban it. A slippery slope bottom line, freedom of speech is more important than your anxieties sorry. Not to mention any respectable psychologist knows that in order to help with anxiety and even PTSD things like trigger warnings and hiding from exposure is WORSE and Damaging, it is proven that what is called Controlled Exposure actually helps acclimate you to uncomfortable situations. SECONDLY, This is also a segway to thought policing, and when you start deciding what words are NOT ok to say you are well on the road to censorship and everyone will eventually be jumping through hoops for everyone else because God forbid anyone ever be offended. Here is the skinny if you cannot handle words than YOU CANNOT HANDLE REAL LIFE therefore, you are going to have find a way to handle it or just go live in a room and stare at the wall. You need to toughen up and realize the world is tough horrible things happen and what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. Gender, race and so called "institutionalized oppression" never looks at the other side of the coin. Go check out the movie red pill philosophy i think it'll show you how much we don't consider each others beliefs
@thereisapricetoeverything43777 жыл бұрын
Please read what i wrote about things like trigger warnings, ANY SELF RESPECTING PSYCHOLOGIST will tell you that Controlled exposure is the best way to become acclimated to things which trigger anxiety even in those with PTSD, using trigger warning to attempt to hide away and prevent ANY triggering will only lead to an over exaggerated or severe reaction when something happens to trigger you. READ UP ON IT! even though it's not as enjoyable it is HEALTHIER for you to get little triggers rather than to ask others to cater to you and having something set you off in an atomic way. It's the truth sorry man learn to deal with it.

I usually agree with most of what you say and I'm pretty certain this won't be read anywhere, but I feel the urge to leave it anyways. If I were a boss of someone and my company had a certain image, e.g. liberal, and my employees would speak out against what my company stays for on social media, which isn't exactly private, I would consider firing them, because it might harm the companies name and status. It often comes down to a certain image, and certain posts online might potentially harm the company. It's not always a "you hurt my feelings" thing, it might very well be a known company with known employees. I hope that makes sense.

8:41 "Oppressive power structures" isn't "feminist jargon for all cis, white, male[s]" being cis, white, or male only makes you a benefactor of oppressive power structures, not the actual oppressor (necessarily) The problem is that often (not always) people who benefit from unfair systems are less likely to see that they have certain advantages, and are more likely to use their influence to keep oppressive power structures in motion.

i work at a high school i was and still afraid to have co-works as friends on facebook because every year we have a social media meeting warning us of the dangers of using social Media and im a custodian; i cant imagine what it is like for the teachers and other staff

"But people are allowed to respond however they want" No, they are not. You are not allowed to beat the crap out of someone because they said something you didn't like.

I'm saddened that no one commented on the irony that a group of people proclaiming their ideas are "expanding free speech" then issue a takedown in order to censor ideas that disagree with theirs.

As long as it's not on company time, people should be able to do what ever they please without losing their job.

Just wondering, is genuine censorship a correct form of response, without warning or explanation.

I called myself dumb on tumblr and was told not to say it because it was originally a ablest slur. Now that's being too PC.

But that lady was right at the beginning. I was in class and i said that i think 5 year olds should get participation ribboons when they lose a game to encourage them to get better and get the trophy. And my own history teacher said that was "too pc". I was very confused.

Your boss shouldn't be able to fire you because of what you do in your own free time outside of work.

I’m a minority and if there’s one thing I hate is someone who thinks I need to defended from oppressors in a system. Don’t speak for me on what is racist and not racist. You say white people don’t get to talk about racism? What gives you the authority to speak on racism towards minorities as a group?

One time I told my friend, who happens to be gay, that I liked the opera that inspired Rent better than Rent and she called me homophobic. I apparently need to be more careful about my preference in entertainment.

With regards to the freedom of speech thing, I couldn't care less whether or not someone is fired for saying something on Facebook. It's called freedom for a reason. Your boss has the freedom to fire you for whatever they want to fire you for and you have to deal with it in whatever way you can.

That's why I'm not friends with my boss on facebook. His invite is sat there in limbo, never to be responded to.

That "un-popular opinion" you said is exactly how i feel. Bosses don't have the fucking right to fire someone because they don't agree with you.

We can't just respect everyone automatically. An individual must EARN the respect of another individual. We don't even respect our bosses unless we like them, we just pretend to.

Pretty much my impression of this lady "Oh hello look at me i'm black, but not too black of course, I'm also well spoken and clearly educated, and in NO WAY a true representation of black people as a whole. I'm going to now preach to you about how to be a better person even though I clearly never step outside my cushy upper middle class neighborhood, and have never been a victim of true racism in my life."

adding words is not the same as promoting freedom of speech. just because there are more words does not mean you have more freedom to make a point. promoting freedom of speech is done by reducing censorship as much as possible, not increasing it.
