Re-Kit the marketplace Holley and Distributor Shims on the Mystery 350

Hey folk's after pondering the weird rattle and digging into my often patchy memory I figured that maybe, just maybe the Hei distributor was creating oil pump bind and maybe was the cause of the earlier mentioned "weird rattle". I set about doing a little DIY to get the load off the oil pump drive, with some success, I think.
Also, I got a rebuild gasket kit in the post and set about tearing down the 650 Holley Carburetor that I bought off FB market place a few weeks back. With the hope that it'll run on the Mystery 350 Chevy engine.
Both of these tasks are a first for me, but ya got to learn somehow

Research the transfer slots if you are to far past them the air screws will not adjust also some ole Holleys will let you adjust for more air under the air breather rod you take it out and there is a screw under there if not you can drill tiny holes in the back butterflies

So you can get enough Air for it to run most overlooked most important thing on the HOLLEY CARB I COULD TELL YOU MORE IF THIS IS HELPFUL AT ALL LOOK AT KZbin VIDEOS YOU DID A GOOD JOB WHEN IT WILL NOT ADJUST MORE THAN LIKELY THAT WILL BE YOUR PROBLEM IT GOES PAST THE SLOTS TO FAR RENDERING OR MAKING THEM USELESS I HOPE THIS WILL HELP IF YOU HAVE NOT FIGURED YOUR PROBLEMS OUT MAN PS THERE IS A WAY TO JUST ADJUST THE BACK BUTTERFLIES OPEN A LITTLE SO YOU DO NOT NEED TO DRILL AIR HOLES

You need to be sure that you are not out of the Grove and on top of the oil pump shaft it should be seated together every time you put the distributor in it should not drop in to place I have seen a lot of things before including totally missing oil shaft and no oil pressure to sitting on top of oil shaft and very low pressure and no increase when raising RPM TO A LOT OF OTHER REALATED ISSUES MAYBE THAT WILL HELP YOU IN SOME WAY

Thanks Frankie. I her what you saying I was worried about lack of engagement with the shaft too. I’ve just revisited this, this weekend. I think I’ve got it dialed now. I did get it all backwards in my head for a wee while though haha.
