I honestly think this is in so many ways more impressive than 73 HR's. This is insane. To hit that many HR's, RBI's, and hit around .330, it's just crazy. Hitting .330 in a season is so unbelievably hard and he did it in a year where he led the league in HR's and RBI's. I don't know if we'll see a season like this anytime soon
@Nhamp2000
@Nhamp2000 2 жыл бұрын
I doubt it. The approach to hitting has changed so drastically, it's nothing but pull hitting and launch angle. Miggy came up with 3000 plus ways to beat the shift, including 500 plus of those hits going yard, by going everywhere. That's how you beat the shift. He is one of the last great ballplayers that I actually stopped what I was doing to watch him hit. Plus, he's still a big, goofy kid who loves to play the game and interact with fans during games. Who does that? Miggy. It's his world and we're just living in it. So glad the Tigers traded for him.

RBI is an irrelevant stat in terms of individual evaluation. Would you rather have a guy who batted 1.000 on the season with 100 home runs, but hit nothing but solo shots and literally never had anyone on base ahead of him, or a guy who hit 0.000 but drove in a runner with a sacrifice every single plate appearance?

The Tigers had him under contract for the next two years, which will likely be the best two years he has left. They signed him for around market value even though his production will likely wain. It's an awful contract that the ownership probably won't live to regret (as he likely won't make it ten more years).

I think Yaz was *tied* for most HR's. Miggy's was a "pure" triple crown! Since then, a batting champ. Now we need him to reach his stride; we need extra base power. Not just for RBI's, but to avoid the Miggy-VMart double play. I like these Tigers, and don't want to see a July trade deadline sell off of a great (on paper) AL team! Come on, Miggy!!!

Ben D and if Davis wasn't on PEDs. They're not steroids but they help you focus and improve awareness. If miggy was on that stuff he would have had more homers every year of his career. More than half the battle is squaring the ball up. If you hit the sweet spot you could be dee Gordon and send that ball on a line out of the park.

Struck out after fouling off six. * Watch pretty much any episode of his very successful television series 'Magnum P.I.' and you'll see him wearing a Tigers baseball cap.

Although his best years are behind him now, in his prime, this guy was the most feared hitter in baseball. He was a hitting machine.

if there wasn't a man named Albert that played for the Cardinals then ide say miggy is the best right handed hitter ever to play the game.

Think of all the great players the Marlins had from '00-08. They basically became a farm team for most of the other elite clubs in the MLB.

To be a good hitter, you have to have good hand-eye coordination. I don't think steroids help with that. I'm not saying that steroids is OK, but it's not as big a factor as most people think it is.

Karisa Lotterman not only that. You have to study pitchers, anticipate pitches, plate discipline, work on you batting mechanics, etc

What is the triple crown? I’m assuming it’s when you have the highest batting average most home runs and RBI’s.

@@chmendez it's virtually impossible in today's MLB because you have power hitters and then contact hitters. Rarely do you see a hitter excel at both making Cabrera's Triple Crown even more special. The last NL triple crown was Joe Medwick from the 1930s.

Plus it was your team where he won his only ring with as well. For some reason there are people who didn't know this or think he was a cup of coffee call up in 2003 when he was actually good enough to be in the starting lineup for the second half of the season after being called up.

This is a fantastic video, as it showcases the fact that if you throw it within 10 feet of the plate, he can hit it. Doesn't matter single or HR, he can just plain hit.

As an Indians fan this is hard to watch lol. That being said Miggy was HANDS DOWN the best hitter we have ever seen. but there is something beyond that. His character was phenomenal. Always humble always had fun with fans both home and away. Well liked around the league by players and coaches. ...He was one of if not the greatest ball players of all time and had better be a first ballot hall of famer. He enjoyed the game and the stage and appeared to love it and love seein him at our home park but um Miggy can...can ya do us a lil favor? Just ...um...just dont be the Indian killer you have been in years passed lol. Wishin ya the best of luck
