I restore antique musical instruments and their cases. The outsides of the cases are usually covered with a tolex type of material. For the insides of the cases, I use materials that replace what was originally in the case. Could be velvet, satin, or silk. The cases usually have 10 to 20 little weird shaped wooden pieces on the 8nside that need to be restored and recovered with material. The pieces hold mouthpieces, mutes, music lyres, and other objects in their places. Then there are blocks and pieces that hold the horns in place. Leather and snaps hold the horn down. Anyway...two things....you covering those inside pieces reminded me of recovering all the weird little wooden bits. Tougher than it looks...and it is inspiring me to build a case from scratch with a leather exterior and a pigskin interior. That pigskin looked great and you did a fantastic job! Thanks, Steve!

I'm impressed. Steve, you have a high quality customer! I mean, he planned the project and provided everything you needed to do it. And it actually worked out as intended! (Plus he was willing to pay for the work, which is always nice.)
@AlexanderMason13 жыл бұрын
He didn’t provide everything needed to do it. Just the shell since that’s what he wanted it to be made out of. Also what do you mean by “Plus he was willing to pay for the work, which is nice”? Do you think Bedo is going to do all of this for free? Of course he has to pay. He has no choice, if he wants it done.
@moeskeetz54732 жыл бұрын
@@AlexanderMason1 the customer provided the shell, the bag and the lining. He was happy to pay Steve what he wanted which is not always the case. Especially when you’re going from a $200 job to $600 which is why Steve made one case and sent the other kit back to the customer. Or did you miss him saying all of that in the beginning?

OLD LEATHER SMITH here. Hi LEATHER Brother. Great Job Steve. Suggestions, Wax paper between glue pieces that need adjustment. 4 edge dyeing I sometimes use a wool dauber that I have burnt the fuzz off and formed flat on 2 sides, sometimes I cut a slit in the dauber 4 the thickness of the project, either way works 4 me. Just some things I have come up with in doing Bespoke leather only. GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃

Have you ever sat and thought about how much money is sitting around you when you are in the shop? I mean in equipment and materials down to the hand tools and nails you use, I know ss you havd mentioned in the past that you still have some of your father's tools, I think this is a fantastic thing, you pick it up and realise that this little awl helped feed and school your family and now you are doing the same with what you learned from him with the help of some of his tools. My point is just how much it costs to get to where you are plus the hours taken to learn and master your craft, quality comes at a price and you have plenty of customers and work so that speaks for itself. Take care and stay safe buddy
