His name is Petelgeuse, not Betelgeuse (the subs for season 1 got it wrong). Therefore the pronunciation is actually petel-gyoose. The part that makes the whole pronunciation thing really weird is the fact that his nickname is Guese and that is not pronounced gyoose but instead is pronounced juice.

Whether it's right to say "remember" or not, it's absolutely necessary to know Petelgeuse is a spirit to completely understand him at this point(for example in arc 4 light novels when he cries meeting Emilia he's clearly talking about her "saving" him back when he was a spirit with barely any awareness, giving him a self and understanding of love emotion etc... This is impossible to understand on an equal basis with light novel readers if you don't learn that he's a spirit occupying human hosts).

For example last week's episode he clarified Echidna used witches daughter as a racial slur and not an actual truth. For this episode he clarified that Emilia indeed has a full elf father an full elf mother. We know she has to be half since Fortuna is full and therefore her brother is highly likely to be too. However we didn't know Emilia was half human for sure, there technically are other races that look extremely human but Tappei confirmed it to be a human mother

Emilia being 400 years old and having the physical and mental mind of a 7 year old 107 years ago is completely possible with new mechanics the story introduces later. Also its cut content as of the 3rd tea party but Minerva is confirmed to have a deep connection to protecting the Elves. She also dies in a trap, knowing it was a trap, in the hopes of saving who she could. Puck made a contract with Echinda to become the beast of the end to watch over Emilia. That much is clear from Frozen bonds. The crack theory I have is Satella and Emilia are twins. A rem and ram situation. But the implication of twins in re:zero is that twins are beings who share a soul. I think Emilia could be a twin in the sense that Satella split off part of her soul (this ties into the aging thing, if you know you know I'm not posting spoilers here) and how Emilia being a vessel may not be a bad thing. If Fortuna knew about this Emilia could be a vessel and it could be a reunification with yourself rather than an oblivion. This is spoilers but this is a theme Subaru will confront in Arc 6. He even says Roxas from Kingdom heart's line "I guess my summer vacation is over".

On the anime it's more difficult to notice this bc it's implied that Subaru already knows when he introduces Julius as Betelgeuse natural enemy, bc Julius has a divine blessing of the spirits or something, he basically is a spirit tamer.

Remember in season 1 when Emilia had to put Betelgeuse down, she teared up. She couldn't consciously remember him, but every fiber of her body remembers him as he was. So as he passes away she couldn't help but cry. That episode hit so much harder when rewatching it.

I don't know if you guys would ever read this or not, but I very much hope you watch or give reaction to AnyNews "Re Zero Cut Content" on after watching every corresponding episode (watch Re Zero eps 2 x 22, then watch anynews re zero cut content eps 2 x 22) Apparently there's quite a lot of things the anime cut that made us confused or misinterpret things, and watching his explanation helps understand the missing context without spoiling future episodes, it actually going to help you understand better when something happened out of context in the future. Emilia is a half elf. She´s hold back by the barrier. Satella was an half elf. It´s been stated multiple times and it´s the reason Emilia is shunned as half-devil. Fortuna is using "sister" to refer to her brothers wife. Emilias father is a full elf. Echidna uses "Witches daughter" as a slur.. so it doesn´t need to be taken too seriously. Though there is someone with similar eye shape to Emilia among the witches.. Geuse is using "kenzai".. which means "in good health". So it´s not the other "well".

Yeah, unless we've been fed false info at some point, Satella can't be Emilia's mother due to the half-elf lineage and Sanctuary rules. Regarding Geuse being older than an elf like Fortuna, we know from S1 that he can change bodies. As for Shima, we learned that the copies of Ryuzu have to take turns guarding the Sanctuary because they are artificial beings that consume mana like spirits. So she's probably struggling to maintain her form at night instead of resting.

On the "witch's daughter" thing: I haven't got any special insight into the source material (I'm an anime-only viewer at the moment), but I do think it's worth noting that "majo no musume" can translate less literally, because "musume" can mean "daughter" or just "girl" (e.g. the Monster Musume is just a series about monster girls). Given the tone of the rest of Echidna's dialogue in that scene, it would be entirely possible she was just referring to Emilia as "witch girl" as an extra layer of disrespect.

I wasn't sure how discussion will end but my god you actually arrived on the most prevalent theory that minerva is Emilia's mom or at least has very close ties to her....But knowing how re:zero is targeted towards heavy analytical readers...he might be baiting us, the other alternative is actually echidna herself. Just to clarify timeline's Eli-or Forest events :- 100 years ago basically these next 3 ep. Sanctuary,roswall,beatrice,witches,satella devouring/sealing...etc : 400 years ago. The big issue with minerva theory so far is that minerva supposedly died 400 years ago and at best child Emilia wouldn't be older than 50 years, so there is some time stretching there. as clarified earlier Frozen witch was just a slur, but in that Emilia moment took it up as badge of honor because that's what villagers in frozen bonds called her. But echinda calling her frozen witch/ witch daughter could also be taken literally but just for theory crafting sake as always dialogues in re:zero has double/triple meaning especially how they keep getting re-contextualized. Since it was confirmed this episode and in S1 as well, Yes geuse is a spirit and he specifically is a body hopping spirit which he used to great effect in S1,although he maintained this body in this ep tll what you see in S1 of him. Maybe that's what he means when he calls himself a sinner because he body snatches..? or could be something else..don't know we only got part of puzzle in this season for the events from years ago....rest will get filed up as story goes on...some questions/mysteries answered but more popped up. Running theme in show but many individuals of great power are trying to achieve immortality for one reason or another,Regulus is no exception but its more a happy stance...although so far how they have achieved is different for each one of them which is very cool, regulus you will know how once his power will be revealed its closely tied to that. Some of her weirdness about Emilia being a slut or something are a petty dig based on the fact she likely saw her whole argument with Subaru (I mean she doesn't have to watch outside of the trial because since they both take it she probably accessed both Emilia and Subaru's memories) and is critical of her reliance on Subaru(someone who loves her while she has not yet returned his feelings). It's very petty. But she also gets emotional for deeper rooted reasons. Emilia in the novels frequently remarks in her thoughts she can't hate someone she doesn't know well enough, so Echidna must know /understand her well enough to be able to hate her. Whether this is because of accessing memories or things which happened in her life, wait and see, but her feelings and words are a mystery still.

Up to date on Reddit the best theory was Minerva. If you ask my theory I'm on the side, that it's a time dilemma theory. 400 years when the witches of sins died but it was 300 years after Emilia had lived so it can't be any of the witches of sins and we know Emilia was 114 years old (unconfirmed) based on the linear timeline. What if the time line wasn't Linear? Something reset the timeline as same as the power of envy. Which Emilia might exist in both timelines. Remember how season 1 episode 1 Subaru died before he got Isekai (that flashback promised to that dead girl).

Apologies for the passionate rant!!! I always argue against it because there's no reason to introduce a bigger loop for Subaru/Emilia/Satella so long as books of prophecy exist. My argument also applies for the weird can x character loop before Subaru does/remember Subaru's deaths question(if you know it, I'm not saying it's weird because I disagree but because it has little plot relevance), trying not to spoil details. Books of prophecy are such an integral part of the plot which can explain every occurrence seen as a bigger timeloop. In addition to that, Emilia is called Satella's vessel and we have clones who were intended as Echidna's vessel, so Emilia actually being past/alternate Satella isn't satisfying explanation for those lines. It's just not necessary to make Subaru's power less "OP" in that someone else can make him loop or can loop before him, because it isn't his power really but Satella's. And Satella is canonically only matched in power by Reinhardt, plus potentially controls Subaru's loops to an extent already, plus actually wants him to remember her, so if anyone were to result in a meta loop or alternate timeline thing it would be her and this would start contradicting her current love for Subaru. I WILL pose an argument against one of my points though lol. When Petelgeuse called her a vessel I'm pretty sure he said for the "witch" NOT Satella, and those are separate people to many characters. It could be Emilia and Satella are both vessels in this sense, so Emilia becoming Satella/being alternate Satella wouldn't ruin it or be contradictory. But I still think everything in the plot will be more satisfyingly concluded if it doesn't introduce elements like alternate universes Subaru has nothing to do with or meta loops. Tappei's a good enough writer to answer it all with the currently existing magical elements, which avoids a potential power creep issue. Not power creep as in villains becoming op, or Subaru becoming op, but power creep in the sense of only using some even more overpowered magic(being magically more powerful than return by death, which so far is kind of treated as horrific but also the most powerful authority we've seen in a way) for the purpose of solving a convoluted plot. It can be solved through logical connections instead of new magic.

It is so crazy to me how every one, every reactor I've seen, calls him fucking "Geese." I don't understand how something so blatantly incorrect, to the point where it's said aloud by several different characters probably more than 50 times, viewed by hundreds of thousands of people, in a show that came out years ago and is most commonly consumed over the course of several weeks, is so memetically pervasive. I personally think we haven't met the mother since we don't even have candidates that could be Emilia's father. So far the only male elf we see is Archie and it doesn't look like he is the father

There is a pretty good candidate for Emilias father. That would be Puck before he was turned into an artificial spirit. And the best candidate for Emilias mother would be Minerva.
