SAME!! Played O Line in HS and College in the 90's and NEVER heard any of this. Going to start coaching O Line soon and I'm so excited to teach them the right ways to play the game.

I LUV IT♨️.....I LIKE THE 45 DEGREE ON REACH BLOCKS. FINALLY SOME CONCRETE EVIDENCE BACKING UP MY CLAIM ALONG WITH OUR FILM. I REALLY LIKE HOW YOU SHOW IT WITH THE DEFENDER MOVING INSTEAD OF STANDING STILL WHICH IS NOT REALISTIC. I DISLIKE LOSING GROUND TO GAIN GROUND.....OH THE ANGLES!!!👏🏽🔥♨️

A 45 degree angle is necessary for reaching on a RUN BLOCK... For a PASS-SET, the lateral-step is the best technique.

Also, can you do a video about covered inside zone steps? I have had many debates with coaches as they all have different ideas and I would be interested to hear what you guys have to say about it. Love the content.

Thanks for the great video. The focus on hip position should help the 7th graders I'm coaching. We've been struggling to reach D-ends in our games.

If there was you tube when I played, I would have been so much better. Many coaches don't coach at all.

Could you explain a little bit more about which hip counts as the near hip? As in, nearer to the ball or nearer to your defender?
@PaulGaither Жыл бұрын
near and far is *always* related to the ball.

I like the "pocket" verbiage. More appropriate for younger audience. I say, drive "knee to crotch" with the back leg to try and maintain that outside leverage. If you have a really wide 9 tech, does the angle become more than 45 degrees because your trying to get near hip to far hip?
@LBentleyOlinePerformance5 жыл бұрын
Bob Bob The width of defender sets the angle. The wider the defender, the harder the angle. The tighter the defender, the more shallow the angle. But the path really should just be based on alignment, not locking player in to a singular track. Great question. Appreciate the feedback and comment. 🙌🏾

What if DL is lined up straight up?
@kingjellyfish79093 жыл бұрын
Only thing that changes is the angle and the step that sets you and your hips up the angle. Its easier beacuse the D Liner doesnt have outside leverage over you

reach…reach…Huh…This conversation was about angles and hips. No one reached. (scratches head)
@jamesrice10804 жыл бұрын
The 45 degree angle on the "reach" isnt a reach . It's a "fan" block . You will never "reach " a 5 or 7 on a 45degree tract . A reach doesn't NEED to be a gain ground situation as a "reach " would only secure a lateral run . Reach is flat and square , a 45 is a fan block , or possible an inside zone block . I cant for the life of me figure out how you'd be able , or talk about being able to reach a 7 , when the 7 would want to work lateral ahead of the play with a 45 angle . That 7 would stay outside of that reach with minimal effort . Show me live film using that 45 reach . I'll bet there's no way it's an actual 45 . More like 75 . Like the example given . I'm not trying to be a jerk , but , no way .

I agree with you. I tried to teach reach blocking this way this year and the result was we couldn't hardly get anyone reached. Gotta scrap this way of doing it.
